Walter L. Laier COZAD — Walter Laier, 91, died April 18, 1999, at Cozad. He was born Jan. 6, 1908, to Gottlieb and Caroline Daiss Laier in Gosper County near Eustis. He attended rural Gosper County and Eustis High School. On June 9, 1930, he married Leona Haug at the Haug family farmsite southwest of Cozad. They made their home on a farmsite southwest of Cozad, moving to Cozad in 1956. During his entire lifetime, he was engaged in farming and cattle feeding. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge. He and his wife enjoyed spending the winter for several years at their condo at Sun City West, Ariz. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara D. Laier of Redondo Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren, Mark (Laurie) Johansen of Dallas and Cynthia (Les Chew) Johansen of Los Angeles; and a great-grandson, Keith Bradford Johansen. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Johansen, on Saturday, April 17, 1999; three sisters, Bertha Taege, Clara Messenger and Mary Castor; and four brothers, William, John, Chris and Paul. A memorial has been established. Services for Mr. Laier and his daughter, Judy, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Neben officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Berryman Funeral Home.
