Dortha Ellen McDonald Dortha Ellen McDonald, 84, of North Platte, died Jan. 29, 1998, at North Platte Care Centre. She was born Nov. 5, 1913, at Frederick, Ill. to Harry James and Cora May Little McDonald. As a child she lived in Bushnell and Beardstown, Ill., Alliance and several towns in Oklahoma. She graduated from Seminole High School and attended Hills Business College in Oklahoma City. After working in Oklahoma City for a time, she moved back to Nebraska to work on her mother and step-father, Walter F. Clute’s ranch. She worked at the hotel in Hyannis before moving back to Oklahoma City and then to Colorado Springs, Colo. In the late 1940s she came to North Platte and has lived here since. She worked at Tom-Tom Coffee Shop, Tucker’s Restaurant, Capri Restaurant and Sirloin Stockade until she broke her hip. Ms. McDonald was a member of the First Christian Church and past member of the Eagles. A memorial has been established to the Shriners’ Crippled Children Transportation Fund. She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Rhea Gamble of Oklahoma City and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, an infant son and a brother, William Lewis McDonald. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Howard E. Grant, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 8:30-11 a.m. Tuesday at Odean Colonial Chapel at C and Sycamore.
