Irene McNeal Irene McNeal, 80, of North Platte died Oct. 8, 1999, at her home. She was born July 13, 1919, to Everett John and Bessie Opal Gullion at Lewellen. She grew up in North Platte and graduated from North Platte High School in 1937. On July 11, 1949, she married Darold M. McNeal at Lincoln. He preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1996. In 1940, she started working at Hoover’s Jewelry Store where she worked for 11 years until 1951, when she quit work to raise her family. Mrs. McNeal was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church and the Elks Club. She was an avid reader who utilized the North Platte Public Library her entire life. Her time spent with family and friends were most precious to her and she will be missed by those loved ones. Survivors include her children, Cindy and Royce Norman of North Platte, Randi and Rory Zink of Lincoln, Karen and Douglas Miller of Lincoln, Susan and Dan Arnold of Grand Island and Jeffrey and Michele McNeal of Lincoln; eight grandsons and five granddaughters; her mother, Bessie Gullion of North Platte; a sister, Bonnie Benningfield of Indianapolis; a brother, Ray “Skip” Gullion of North Platte; sister-in-law, Rae Gullion of North Platte, Marge Gullion of Oslo Cove, Ind., Darlene Brooks and JoAnn Goldsmith, both of Arvada, Colo., and Marilyn Fleming of Idaho; brother-in-law, Terry McNeal of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her father; three brothers, Glenn, Gayle and Don Gullion; and a grandson, Lucas Norman. A memorial has been established. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Noah Palmer of Bethel Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel.
