Howard Walsh of Brownlee, Nebr. purchased the complete stock of merchandise, consisting of groceries, drygoods, and hardware, of the Gandy Store from Mrs. Fawn Phiipot on Monday. Walsh, a rural mail carrier and hotel operator at Brownlee, plans to start a general store in the large ground floor building of his hotel. With this transaction, Gandy no longer has a separate store, the first time in nearly seventy-five years. In its heyday, Gandy boasted three grocery stores a meat market, two banks, three hotels, a newspaper, the postoffice, and 3 blacksmith shops. Telegraph-Bulletin March 18, 1959.
