EMORY & FRANCES LONG Emory Long and Frances Blevins Miles were married January, 5, 1946, at Oberlin, Kansas. Emory was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Portter Long. He had been in the service for four years and had returned in September 1945. Frances was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Blevins. It was a ready-made family for Emory, as she had two small sons from a precious marriage. They moved to the Harve Rogers place just over the line in McPherson County, where both of the boys started to school. The school was about one mile south of us and we boarded the teachers quite often. In March of 1952 we moved to the Henry Brothers place which Harvey Parker now owns. While there Ruth Emily was born August 7, 1953. The boys attended the Nesbit School while we were there. In March of 1954 we moved to the Robert Miles place west of Gandy. Here the boys went to grade school in Gandy and both graduated from Stapleton High School. Both of the boys attended McCook Junior College.

Rodney married a girl from McCook and lived there for awhile, later moving to Lincoln. They adopted a son, Darin Dale in November 1968. They were divorced in 1972 and in 1976 he married Elizabeth Smith. They still live in Lincoln, where Rodney is a foreman of a construction crew.

Ray went to Denver to finish school and married Deborah Knudtson of Montana. They have one son, Rex Devin, born May 3, 1971. They now live in Montrose, Colorado. Ray owns a Block Income Tax office and custom combines in the summer from Oklahoma to Montana.

Ruth started to school at Gandy and later went to Stapleton when Gandy quit having school. She graduated from Stapleton High School in 1971. She married Dan Beckius in 1971 and they have two sons, Leroy born June 29, 1973, and Chad born July 8, 1976. They now live near Stapleton.

We bought the place where we now live, south of Gandy from my parents Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Blevins in 1968.
