Pioneer Settler Passes Away at Garfield, Nebraska Home.
Mrs. T.M. Johnson Suffers Fatal Stroke-Fails to Rally.

OBITUARY
Hulda Anna Hoffa was born September 24, 1858, in Owen County, Indiana and passed away at her home on Garfield Table, Nebraska on November 23, 1931, at the age of 73 years, 1 month, 29 days.  She moved with her parents to Decatur County, Iowa where she married to Thomas M. Johnson on October 26, 1879, at Leon.  To this Union five children were born, all of whom are living.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson lived in Iowa for five years when they moved to Lancaster County, Nebraska by wagon.  They lived there one year and they decided to come farther west, which they did, locating in Lincoln County, Nebraska on a homestead in 1884.  They made the homestead their permanent home, having resided there since that year. The country being new, they had few luxuries.  Their main broadcasting system was the coyote bands that sent their music over the air.  Never-the-less, these persevering folk held on and were rewarded by the dawn of a brighter day.
Mrs. Johnson joined the Methodist Episcopal Church while in Iowa and has been a faithful worker since.  Hindered by circumstances and ill health, she had been unable to do as much for the Church as she would have liked to do in the past few years.  But she will be missed from its ranks and held in tender loving memory by those she has assisted in times of affliction.  Suffering from ill health for the past five or six years, she never complained and remained at her post even though her health was failing fast.
She was stricken suddenly by a stroke Monday morning, about 9 0’clock and never full regained consciousness.  It seemed nothing could be done to relieve her suffering until time touched her brow with it’s finger of death, which occurred about 2 o’clock in the afternoon of November 23.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, five children: Charles of Stapleton; Samuel of Garfield; Mrs. Nancy Long of Kilmer Valley; Mrs. Martha Johnson of Spencer, Nebraska; and Mrs. Ada Wood of Arizona; fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Two grandchildren preceded her to the Great Beyond.
Funeral Services were held at the Garfield Church last Wednesday afternoon with Rev. W.H. Merrill of Gandy officiating.  The remains were laid to rest at the Garfield Cemetery, Nebraska.
