FINAL RITES FOR FORREST M. JOHNSON
Services were held Tuesday, Jan 18, 1994 at the Presbyterian Church in Stapleton,
for Forrest Johnson, 87, of Reseda California, who died Jan 12th at Panorama
City California.
The Rev. Don Drury officiated.
Survivors include a son, Donzel and wife Linda of Show Low, Arizona,; a daughter
, Doris Casselman of Reseda California;a sister, Lucille Fowler of Stapleton;
seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were
his wife, Bethel; a son, Kenneth; a brother Russell; and two sister's Caryl
Jones and Gertrude Johnson.
Music was by Dave Blevins, soloist, and Maxine Abrams, organist. Hymn selections
were "God Understands," and "Beyond the Sunset."
Pallbearers were Arlen Bay, Garrett Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Tom Johnson, Clarence
Lanka, and Elton Lanka.
Forrest Melvin Johnson was born January 6, 1907, at Gandy, Nebraska, to Charley
and Maude Johnson. He attended school at Nesbit and Stapleton; graduating in
1925 form Baker Rural High School at Stapleton. Forrest was very active in sports.
In 1923 he played on Stapleton's first 11-man football team with Robert Baskin
as coach. Forrest excelled in several track events and held the school record
in the 440 from 1925 until 1972 when it was broken by Ron Uphoff.
In January 1929, he married Bethel Bay, They lived and farmed in the Stapleton
area until 1941 when they moved to Hawthorne California. There he worked for
Northrup Aircraft Corporation. He continued to work at Northrup after moving
to Palmdale where they built their retirement home.
He enjoyed landscaping, planting trees, and growing a garden. Forrest was a
wonderful father and a grandfather. He was a good neighbor and loved by relatives
and fiends. He will be sadly missed by all of us.
Burial was in the North Platte Cemetery.
