MRS. MAUD JOHNSON
Mrs. Maud Johnson was born October 8, 1878, in Burt County, Nebraska, near Tekamah.
She passed out of this world into the place of her Savior, Monday morning in
the North Platte hospital, November 23, 1942, at the age of 64. When eleven
years old, she moved with her parents to Garfield Table in Lincoln County. A
little later they moved to the Nesbit community.
On April 15, 1903, she was married to Chas B. Johnson. To this union six children
were born, three sons, Glen, Mitchell, So. Dakota; Forrest, Hawthorne Calif;
Russell of the U.S. Marines, stationed aboard ship and three daughters, Mrs.
Ivan Jones of Gandy; Lucille at home; Gertrude preceded her mother in death.
After being married, the Johnson's lived in the Whittier community in Lincoln
County. Two years later they took up a Kinkaid homestead in the Garfield Community.
In 1909 the Johnson's moved into Logan County. Three years later when the Kearney
branch of the Union Pacific Railroad was built in Stapleton, Mr. Johnson and
his family moved into this community and built one of the first homes in the
new town of Stapleton. During the next four years Mr. Johnson was a member
of the Mansfield and CO. Mercantile store. When the company sold their interests
to H.G. Lamb, the Johnson's moved back into the Nesbit community, where they
have lived until the present time.
Besides her husband and five children, Mrs. Johnson leaves to mourn her passing,
four grandchildren, three in California, Donzel, Kenneth, and Doris Jeane; Patty
of Mitchell South Dakota; two brothers, R. Gibbs, Stapleton, and Homer Gibbs,
Ringwold; one sister. Mrs. C.E. Rogers, Stapleton. Her brother-in-law, Mr. Wood
and sister-in-law, Mrs. David Gibbs, are among the bereaved. Also an Aunt Gertrude
Laughlin, and three cousins, Margaret, Lucille, and David Laughlin, of Mission,
Kansas, She leaves many dear friends to mourn her passing. When but a young
lady, Mrs. Johnson was converted by hearing the Gospel in a revival services.
This experience influenced her entire life. As Solomon of old predicted,:
"Her children rise up and call her blessed." Her husband said but a moment
after her death: "I count it a privelege to have been her husband." Her impressions
upon the lives of her children will never be forgotten and shall be felt upon
their children for many years to come. Her Christian influence was also felt
in the communities where she lived, and always being first to offer help to
homes during times of sickness and need. She always attended church and Sunday
school, and took her active part until recently, hindered by ill health. It
can truthfully be said the entire community will note the effect of her passing.
CARD OF THANKS We want to thank our friends and neighbors
for the many helping hands and the sincere sympathy extended to us during the
illness and death of our dear wife and mother.
