Cassie Maria Kinzie

Mrs. T. J. Leavitt, who came to Nebraska in 1864 and settled near Daykin, Ne. in 1883, passed away Sunday March 1, 1931, at a local hospital in Fairbury, following an operation. She was 69 years old. Funeral services, largely attended, were held at the United Brethern Church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Treese, pastor, assisted by Rev. Mr. Turner of Alexandria and Rev. H.H. Williams. Music was by a mixed quartet, and burial was at the Alexandria Cemetery. The pallbearers were B.F. Henry, Gus Helvey, Charles Ward, Henry Marshman, Henry Frede, and August Marschman. Among those from Daykin who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marshman Sr., Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Rosener, Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Henry, Mrs. Milt Wessner, Mrs. Will Fox, Mrs. Sam Potts, Mrs. H. Burnett, Mr. and Mrs. August Meeske. CASSIE MARIA KINZIE was born in Elkhart, Indiana, Jan. 18, 1862, to DAVID HALL KINZIE and DIDAMIE ALCINDA PITTS KINZIE. The family moved to Nebraska when she was two years old, living first near Dewitt, Ne. until the time of her marriage to THOMAS JEFFERSON LEAVITT on Jan. 4, 1883. The couple then moved to a farm near Daykin, Ne. until the death of her husband August 3, 1929, after which she moved to Alexandria Ne. To this union were born ten children, Mrs. Lillian Watson of Alexandria, Ne., Mrs. Elsie Schmidt of Helvey, Ne., Mrs. Eva Schmidt of Fairbury, Ne., Miss Ollie Leavitt of Stapleton, Ne., Arthur Leavitt of Cortland Oregon, Homer A. Leavitt of Helvey, Ne., Clifford Leavitt of Los Angeles, Ca., and Willis Leavitt of Denver , Co. Two children preceded her in death, as infants, Moses and Mary Leavitt. There are also four sisters and three brothers of Mrs. Leavitt, who survive; Mrs. Jane Chaney of Geneva, Ne., Mrs. Mary Ann Workman of Daykin, Ne., Mrs. Minta McDaniels of Industrial City, Mo., Mrs. Tillie Knigge of Alexandria Ne., George Kinzie of Gilead, Ne., and William and James M. Kinsey of Fairbury, Ne.
