Clarence Frank “Bub” Arensdorf, of McPherson County, NE, passed away at the age of 93, on Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Sutherland Care Center. Clarence was born October 23, 1924, to Nicholas George and Margaretha (Pittz) Arensdorf on the family ranch in McPherson County. He grew up on the homeplace and graduated from District 60 Country School.
Clarence stayed on the ranch to work with his dad, farming and ranching, which he did his entire life. He also worked for McPherson County, maintaining roads for 30 years, and served on the Farm Service Board for 12 years and the District 60 School Board for several years. Over the years Clarence received the Grassland Conservation Award as well as the Tree Award. On September 4, 1949, Clarence was united in marriage to Lila Lee Humphrey in Sutherland and the couple continued to live on the homestead where they raised their family.
Clarence always liked sports and was both a Yankee fan and a Husker fan. In his younger days he played baseball then when he was older became a women’s softball coach. He also liked to play cards and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sutherland.
He leaves behind his wife of nearly 69 years, Lila, of Sutherland; daughters, Jacqueline (Wendell) Sachtjen, of Palmer, NE, Julie (Pat) Hoaglund, of Brady, NE, and Sheryl Arensdorf, of Sutherland; grandchildren, Tracy and Michelle Sachtjen, Robin Mann, Nichole Fleecs, Shawn Redden, Kelli and Matt Wiiest and Tiffany Hoaglund; 16 great-grandchildren, Jared, Tayvianna, Michael, Owen, Alexa, Wyatt, Ella, Austyn, Samuel, Kinley, Lyla, Bryden, Zayden, Allanaha, Payton and Ryan; and many nieces, nephews and other family. Clarence was preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Arensdorf; parents, Nicholas and Margaretha; brothers, Joseph and Martin Arensdorf; and sisters, Alma Nicholson, Gertrude Arensdorf, and twins, Loretta Ross and Louisa Holcomb.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Sutherland with Pastor Mark Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4-6 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
