FOR MILITARY DUTY
GO TO FORT RILEYMerrick County's Second Quota to be Called Into Central City Next Wednesday for Military Duty

According to the information that has been received here from Governor Keith Neville, and Marshal Crowder, Merrick County's second quota will be called for service on next Wednesday, Sept. 19th, and the following day they will leave for Fort Riley, Kan., to go into camp. Last week four left this county and en now stationed at Fort Riley, and the second call from this county is for twenty-seven men. The local exemption beard has not as yet received any further information from the district board as to what action has been taken by that body on the appeals and claims on industrial grounds, but already thirty-four have been certified by that board which gives this county enough men to fill up the quota for the next call.
The official notices to those called will be mailed out within a very few days, and they will be summoned to appear here next Wednesday, as the orders now stand, and they will remain in this city until on Thursday, when they will go to Lincoln, and from there go by special train to Fort Riley. Twenty-seven will be summoned to go, and there will also be some alternates called in case there is someone that does not show up. As the matter now stands notices will be sent out to the remaining thirty that this county now has available, and there will be three that will not be called upon to go, but they must hold themselves in readiness in case they are needed.
Following is the remaining thirty that have been certified back to the local board by the district board as eligible for military service, and it is from this list that the twenty-seven will be selected, but on account of the orders received all of these men will be notified to appear to make sure that the twenty-seven will be on hand to go. The list is as follows

W. H. Riggs, clerk of the local exemption board received the following list, which is of those from this county who have enlisted since the draft was made. Merrick county at this time will not receive any credit in this draft for these enlisted men, but in the next draft to be made the county will receive full credit for this enlistments on her quota. As yet no reports have been received from the district board as to what action has been taken upon the appeals and industrial claims made from this county, but it is probably due to the many duties that body has, for Merrick county's list was one of the first in the state to be forwarded to the district board.
