FRANCIS Esther (Humphrey) FRANCIS and her 7 children passed
through Nebraska City in a covered wagon, in 1860, enroute to
Oregon. They were to meet Esther's husband, James H., in Denver,
CO. Esther died in Nebraska City and is buried there, as his her
youngest son, James. James was about 5-7 years old, and died of
accidental scalding. The other children were left to fend for
themselves, or were farmed out to other families until their
father could be reached, and come for them, a process that took
over 6 months. Some of the children stayed behind while the
older ones went with their father.... children of James H. and
Esther FRANCIS 1. Mary Francis (1843-1892) 2. Stuart Francis
(1844-????) 3. William Henry Francis (1845-1914) 4. Rachel
Francis (1848-????) 5. Peter Francis (1851-1912) 6. Alexander
Francis (1854-1936) 7. James Francis (abt 1855-abt 1860-61) We
know for sure that Alexander stayed behind, and eventually
settled in Ohio, where he married and raised his family. The
other surnames I have are connected to these children by
marriage. I would appreciate hearing from someone in Otoe Co.,
or Nebraska City, who might be connected, or willing to do
lookups. Thank you!
