Jim McCrory wrote, "My great-grandmother, Maude E. Whittaker McCrory, was born in Otoe County in 1881. Lived first near Lorton, then in Syracuse. After she married she lived near Wabash and Murdock in Cass County.

"She inherited her father's (Edward S. Whittaker) bible in 1907, and for over 50 years used it, having all kinds of things as bookmarks, ranging from pressed flowers to candy wrappers (butterscotch, from the Mueller-Keller Candy company of St. Jospeh, Missouri). I just finished my inventory of what's in the bible

"Here's a couple of items that might be of interest for Otoe County:

"A cough syrup recipe/prescription from C. E. Clark & CO, Druggist. In Syracuse, Nebraska.

"A program done by the Syracuse public schools in 1896, 'Laila'. (Maude's younger sister Eva Whittaker would have taken part in the program.)

"Syracuse high school Class of 1900 newspaper announcement/program.  Maude Whittaker was a member of the Class of 1900. "
