Benedict Rotter's tombstone is by the fence, facing St. Joseph's church.  I have pictures of it with the church in the backgound. The marker is about 6' tall, and the words are on a bronze plate. The bronze plate was originally in the ground but the family put in the marker at a later date.  Benedict's wife was Marie Straube Rotter (b. 1835, d 1910), she married 2nd Peter Weber, and she is buried at St. Mary's cemetery at Shickley, NE.

Family Notes:

I originally found Benedict's location on a film from the LDS records, and it was in a Cemetery listing done by the DAR.  I don't know if they are listed in the order of their sites or not, but the the names on each side of his name on that list are Kinderman (stone down--can't read) and Michael Sand b 5--7-55 d 8-7-1896.

When Benedict Rotter immigrated, One daughter, Marie Rotter, stayed in Vienna, Austria where she was employed as a music teacher.  Benedict Jr. Rotter, Joseph Rotter, Bernard Rotter, Ernest Rotter, Hedwig Rotter, August Rotter, Francis Xavier Rotter, Philomena Rotter, and Paul Rotter came to Nebraska.  Later, Francis Xavier Rotter moved to Oregon and Benedict Jr. Rotter moved to South Dakota.

Philomena Rotter, who married Ambrose Lux, died in 1915.  Philomena Lux and one daughter are buried at St. Bernard's Cemetery about 1 mile S of Julian, NE.  Ambrose Lux lived in Omaha with one of his sons in the 1920 census, but nobody can find when he died and where he is buried.  submitted by Jean Rotter.
