The Oak Grove cemetery is the oldest in Saline county, the first burial being 1859 or 1860. Many of the early wooden markers were burned off in prairie fires and we know some of those old concrete markers have weathered away. A committee met 20 May 1875 to adopt articles-of-association.

Through the years, these papers were lost, so on 15 April 1932 the DeWitt Cemetery Association became an incorporated body, could receive money through bequests and trust funds from sale of lots and became a perpetual care cemetery. I will be glad to research for people who may have relatives in our cemetery. The name of publication is "Oak Grove Cemetery" directory, edited by Doris A. Peters.

I have the Official State Atlas of Nebraska, Compiled from Government Surveys, County Records and Personal Investigations, by Everts and Kirk, Philadelphia, 1885. Of course this includes several pages about Saline County which I would be glad to share as time permits.

I also have an Atlas of Saline County Nebraska published by the Anderson Publishing Co, Mason City IA, 1918. In 1997 as the DeWitt Historical Society's project for the 125th Anniversary celebration at DeWitt NE, I edited a "125 Years History of DeWitt NE, Its Families, Its Community, 1872-1997". I would be glad to do brief look-ups for researchers.
