Riverside Cemetery - Map of Riverside Cemetery [PDF file]
This is from the Crete News, June 3, 1948 (excerpts)
"Crete Riverside cemetery was established in 1871. The first survey and platting of lots was made by Prof. A. B. Fairchild of Doane College in 1872. Our best information is that the land and cemetery was owned by J.C. Bickle one of the signers of a petition for the incorporation of  Crete, which was effected Aug. 1, 1871. Later owners were a Mr. Hunt and Theodore Hayden.

"...the cemetery was acquired by the city, by purchase from private ownership on Nov. 2, 1932. "A substantial addition to the cemetery since it was acquired by the city was 1 3/4 acres, near the entrance donated my Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Johnson in 1945."

There are approximately 4,725 burials that we know of at Riverside. There are definitely more graves with no stones and probably more burials that do not have a record that we know of. We are not aware of any Potter's Field at Riverside.
