collection of 20 letters to a Miss Mabel Grimm who resided in Wilber, Saline County, Nebraska between 1906 to 1912. Submitted by Doug MacGowan Redwood City, California, USA Transcribed by Kathie Harrison Mt. Vernon, IA April 14, 1906 My Dear Mabel, I just received your lovingly beautiful Easter token and greeting and I hasten to thank you so that it may go to you by return mail. What a happy Easter thought to me, realizing the fact that though as sent by my friends -- I am not forgotten. How can I express to you my thanks? This sometimes seems a cruel, cold world, and we in our despondency feel almost deserted, but again we are reminded that we have much to be much for which to be thankful. Our life has been a hard one, while so many others have been called away. We live in a land free of pestilence [can't read handwriting], and have dear, loving, kind friends, who've had a rough path to trod --endeavor to make our pathway smooth by these little memorials. "Thank you." Mabel, I know you will enjoy the services tomorrow. I wish I could too. Our Church is, and Sabbath schools here are making great preparations. Ida was so good, she too remembered me with a box of Florida flowers. Tell your mama, Mrs. Hamilton Goudy, Ida's mama, was buried yesterday. I have been anxiously waiting to hear from you folks, to learn the particulars in regards to Joe's folks. How is Clyde? How is his condition? Is his mind shattered or is he despondent? And what caused it? Please write and tell us about it. Joanna wrote Hattie,"said he was unconcious" and this week she heard nothing. We are so anxious to hear from there, and it seems no one to write to them, they are so slow to answer and most not at all. Poor Joe, has his heart and hands full sure enough. I am so sorry for him. How are you feeling Esther? Are you still coughing? Gord is trying the oxygener for his stomach and I do believe or hope at least it will help him. A happy Easter Greeting to all. Again, many thanks.
