PHELAN posted by Esther Phelan Shields on Sunday, September 28, 1997

My great grandfather's 2 brothers located in Saunders county, Nebraska from Fulton County, Illinois. They were FENTON AND WILLIAM PHELAN and brought their families with them. I am told they built sod houses and the houses were still there when the government bought the land for the big base that was built. I have some information from census records. I know they were born in Ireland. I would sure like to have a death certificate just to find out who their parents were. I want to make a trip to Wahoo and intend to in the future. I live about 60 miles south of Kansas City, Kansas so it is not that far. Any information you can give would be appreciated. Sincerely, Esther Phelan Shields RR 1 Box 9, La Cygne, Kansas 66040

HARLICK, MENSHIK, RACEK, SUCHA posted by Jeanne Harris on Wednesday, October 22, 1997

I am reasearching information regarding two sets of my great-great grandparents, and their families, who settled in Saunders County in the 1860-70's.
The first set is Frank MENSHIK and his wife, Magdalena HARLICK. The 1880 Census shows Frank and Magdalena residing in the Bohemian Precinct of Saunders County with their children, John MENSHIK, born abt. 1855, Joseph MENSHIK, born abt. 1857, Anton MENSHIK, born abt. 1860, and Caty MENSHIK, born abt. 1863. Frank and Madalena were each 60 years old at the time. All members of the family were born in Bohemia.
The second set I am researching is Matthias RACEK and his wife, Mariea SUCHA, who immigrated from Austria, and sailed from Bremen to New York with their family, in 1861. They resided in Saunders County with their children, Johann RACEK, born abt. 1846, Matthias RACEK, born abt. 1848, Wenzel RACEK, born abt. 1852, Franz RACEK, born abt. 1853, Marie RACEK, born abt. 1855, and Anna RACEK, born abt. 1858.
John MENSHIK married Anna RACEK on February 3, 1881, in Fremont, Dodge County.
I have found some records that spelled MENSHIK as MENSIK.
