My great-great-grandfather is listed in the 1870 census as living in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska. His occupation is given as a physician. We will be in the area this summer and are interested in finding information regarding his training/schooling as a physician. Where would you suggest we look?

BARNELL posted by Tanis Diedrichs on Friday, April 17, 1998

I am seeking information and descendants of Lorenzo Barnell and his brother John Barnell. They were brothers to my great grandfather Jerome Barnell. All were born in Ohio and served in Union Army during the Civil War.
They came to Nebraska after 1870. Jerome (1837-1921) is buried in Sunrise Cemetery in Wahoo, and I think Lorenzo is too. Lorenzo died by suicide. I don't know when John died and where he is buried.

COLLINS posted by Bob Collins on Thursday, May 21, 1998

I am looking for information on my Grandfather Samuel Joseph Collins who lived and died in the area around Colon, NE. He had traveled to NE from Troy VT area we believe around 1860 to 1870. His father James Collins (born 1800 in County Cork Ireland) may have traveled with him but we have not located any letters or other references. Reference from probated wills and military papers from time spent in the Vermont Volunteers during civil war are some of the documents we have located.
My father George Edward Collins was born in the Colon area in 1882. The Collins family interests extended to Holt County Nebraska where I was born in 1942. The Collins family was very involved in the early days (turn of the century) of Holt County in starting some of the first banks, helping establish churches, and building many of the homes in the small towns in Holt county plus establishing some of the first surveys and road system in Holt County. There was reference in some papers to a distant cousin or niece that had lived on the old S. J. Collins land in the Colon area but I think she has since died.
I would appreciate any information or reference to a source where I might be able to go for county records, newspaper articles and etc.

NOVAK posted by David S. Novak on Tuesday, May 26, 1998

I am starting a genealogy search of my family. The document I have only draws back to my great grandparents "Jacob and Anna (Hartl) Novak". They were married November 16, 1885 in Cedar Bluffs, Neb. Do you have any additional information I could use? If so, do I need to come there to view through it?
