DWYER, GORMAN, HOGAN posted by Caroyl Donahue on Sunday, December 16, 2001

Currently my most elusive relative is James W Hogan. He was my grandmothers Anna Hogans' older brother born in 1868. The Hogan family farmed near Mead(Union Township) beginning in 1870. He died in 1911 within days of his mother Catherine Dwyer Hogan. Were they in an accident? Was there an epidimic of some sort or was it just a coincidence? He must have lived near Mead to be buried there in St. James cemetery. Was he married with a family of his own? These are the questions that currently puzzle me. Can anyone help?

WRIGHT posted by Nancy Sicotte on Thursday, January 24, 2002

My grandmother, Coral B. Wright, was born at Watiska, Saunders Co., in 1879. The recent Saunders Co. Historical Society Newsletter included the town name in a "Yesteryear" column and spelled it Wantiska. Which is the correct spelling?
From "Perkey's Nebraska Place Names":
"Wantiska. Post office established February 8, 1870; name changed to Crowder February 18, 1871. State and county records show the spelling Wautisca. Postal authorities received the spelling as Wantiska. Other spellings were Watiska and Wautiska. This was probably an Otoe Indian Word.".
