WHEN TRAVEL WAS SLOW


   In those days, before prophets had dreamed of automobiles, or fast-flying airships to chase the birds of passage through the clouds, the pioneers thought a slow plodding ox team a splendid means of locomotion.

   Mr. Bofenkamp once told the writer that when E. M. Correll joined the Masonic lodge at Fairbury he was accompanied by W. J. Green, and they took turns in riding Correll's pony that distance from the homestead.
