ANDERSON, STEVENS
I have ancestors who were on the 1880 Wheeler Census. I think the children were all born while in Wheeler County. In reading the obits for these ancestor children, they state they were born in Clearwater which is in Antelope County. Is this a case where Clearwater (where they did live later) is the closest town? The family is as listed below:
1880 Census Wheeler Co. Twp 24 R 9
Linton ANDERSON 24 Farmer
+ Bell 22 wife
Cressey 3 son
Lizzie 1 dau
Linton ANDERSON (born John Linton ANDERSON) was born in Dubuque Co. IA in 1856. He married Bell (Adabelle STEVENS) 13 Jul 1876 in Antelope Co. marriage records. Linton ANDERSON states he is a resident of Clearwater in the Mill Precinct. Witness were Elias STEVENS and Maggie Belle MUMMERT. Can anyone clarify which county is correct and does Wheeler have land records for 1880?

BAUMGARDNER
I am currently search my father's family history and I seem to be stuck. Ruben Davis Bumgardner and Justine Reynolds had this kid named Preston L. Bumgardner. His last residence seemed to be Ericson, Nebraska. I would not know where he would be buried at either. I know that there is an Ericson Cemetery so I went to Lincoln to the State Historical Society and looked for a Wheeler County cemetery and I couldn't find any so what I am saying is to help me find some information. Thank you so much!!!!

BROTHWELL, WILDMAN
My great grandfather, David Emery BROTHWELL and his wife, Mary Irene WILDMAN lived in Homestead, Wheeler County, NE before 1917. David Emery died there on 5 Jun 1917. Mary Irene died there on 1 Mar 1921. David Emery BROTHWELL was born 21 Oct 1833 in Fairfield County, CT. Mary Irene WILDMAN was born 26 Jan 1836 in TX. They were married 8 Feb 1857 in Brighton, IN.
I know that David Emery served in the Union Army during the Civil War. I believe he was granted a pension. I am wondering if I can find land records in the local courthouse. Are there homestead records in the local courthouse? I have been told that David Emery taught school at one time and that he also ran for County Clerk but was defeated. Can anyone tell me if there is a local historical or genealogical society in this county? Can you tell me how to obtain land records, death certificates, etc., and what is the charge for them? I also need to know about the cemeteries in the area.
Does anyone know of a community called Silver Creek? Is it in Wheeler County? I would be so grateful for any help you can give me. Lerneda Gaudino  < LGAUDINO@prodigy.net > 25 Apr 1999

BYRNE, RYAN
I am currently working on my family history and have traced my great great grandparents to the state of Nebraska...have yet to locate exactly where. I just recently checked in Dixon County and they informed me that there was a Frank BYRNE in Wheeler County in 1917. My gg Grandfathers' name was Frank BYRNE and his wife's name was Mary (RYAN) BYRNE. Up until 1870--I know they were in DeWitt, Iowa. My grandfather was born sometime around 1840. I only know of one child Frank and Mary had--my great grandfather--John Frances BYRNE--who was born in 1869. I know this Irish Catholic couple had to have had several more children but until I find them--I can not find out about any more of the children. The state of Nebraska has been very helpful in my search.... Any help you could be to me would be greatly appreciated. I am determined to find my roots. Thanks.

JOHNSON, ANDERSON
Am seeking info on Ole E. JOHNSON (1844-1929) and Carolina ANDERSON (1864-1935) who were married in Bartlett, Wheeler, Nebraska on 28 Jan 1890. Both Ole and Carolina were born in Sweden. Believe they were farming in Wheeler County from before 1890, but not after 1906 (their last child was born in Oklahoma in 1906 and they both lived the rest of their lives in Oklahoma). Their children were:
Walter Julius, b. 04 Aug 1891 (presumably in Wheeler Co.)
Edith Lovice, a.k.a. Eda Louisa, b. 27 Jan 1893 in Bartlett
Earl and Pearl (twins), b. 26 Nov 1900 (presumably in Wheeler Co.)
Selma, b. 08 Jan 1906 in Prue, Osage, Oklahoma.
Am particularly interested in naturalization records since both Ole and Carolina were born in Sweden.

REILLY
I am looking for land records for my gg grandfather, William REILLY. REILLY may also have been spelled RILEY. They moved to Wheeler County in 1880. In the "State Gazetteer Farmers List" he was listed with Bartlett as his hometown. Some of the neighbors at the time were the GRIFFITHS and MIGNERY. As the area was settled some of the other neighbors were: BURKES, KIRKPATRICKS, MITCHELLS and DILTS. At one time they had a post office at the house. The family moved in 1896 to St. Paul, ME but two of the sons stayed at the ranch. I don't know when the ranch was sold.

SHAVLIK
I'm looking for any information on Joseph V. SHAVLIK (1854-?) that came to Wheeler County from Saunders County.
Would like to know date of death and burial location and also want to know when he came to Wheeler County. One source says 1915 and another indicates before 1907.
Especially interested in the family that came with him and if it included his mother. Her first name believed to be Margaret and she was born about 1828. Trying to find her burial location but haven't had any luck. Her husband (Joseph's father) died in 1875 in Saunders County and is buried there, but I can't find records for her. Any help would be most appreciated.

WHEELER
I have some information about the man that Wheeler County was named for, and I wonder if anyone could verify it for me. I have not studied the site carefully, but I did not see any information about it's origin. I have copies of some publications that ascetain that the person Wheeler County was named for was Major Daniel WHEELER. It says Wheeler County was created by an act of the legislature, 1k7 Feb 1899. I have pictures of he and his wife, his obituary, and several small articles. His father was William WHEELER, who was a judge and a State Representative in the 1840-60s in St. Joseph County, MI. Daniel's sister, Mary WHEELER was my 3rd great grandmother. All 14 of the WHEELER's children were born in MI, ten of whom outlived their parents.
If anyone would like transcripts of the articles I possess or pictures, please let me know.
