Parents: Silva Kirkpatrick Rodewald and Edward Rodewald
Was raised on a cattle ranch in the Sandhills south of Seneca with five siblings; attended, on horseback, a country elementary school near the ranch; during her teen years, lived in Seneca, 18 miles from the ranch, to attend Seneca High School
Taught school for one year near her parents’ ranch
Eloped on June 9, 1947, to her cousin’s home in Lincoln, married Dale Andersen by a Methodist minister
After marriage, lived in Seneca in a 16-foot aluminum pull trailer, with no water or sewer; worked at Stockman’s Bank; husband's job required moving from job site to job site, then settled in Custer county; moved to Broken Bow in 1952; in 1958 bought a little grocery store, owned the First Avenue for 13 years; bought and fixed up a large old house; later sold the store, worked for the Custer County in the highway department part time and the weed district; after retiring moved to Kearney in 2001. Activities: enjoyed traveling, visiting children, and wintering in Texas; also helped in their car wash business
Survivors include: sister, Bessie Walker; brother-in-law, Bill Andersen and wife June; sisters-in-law, Char Taylor and husband Loren, and Kay Wolfenden and husband Leroy; her son, Myron Andersen and wife Ruth; her son-in-law, Jerry DeFrance; grandson, Chad Andersen and wife Tracy; granddaughters, Audra DeFrance Gilman and husband Brian, and Stacy Andersen Bivona and husband Blake; stepgrandchildren, Jeremy Gove and wife Anissa, Jennifer Gove DiGaetano and husband Michael, and Jeffery Gove and wife Alyssa; 16 beautiful great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends

Activities: was very resourceful when fixing things around the house; loved the outdoors; enjoyed snowmobiling, ATV riding, kite flying and fishing; was a sports enthusiast, enjoyed watching the Chicago Bulls, White Sox, NASCAR and the Green Bay Packers; was a passionate fan of Nebraska Cornhuskers

Married: June 1947, to Ivan John Cunningham
After marriage, lived on a farm along the Loup River; after her husband died in 1987, continued to live on the farm; moved to Kearney, 2012
Activities: loved living on the farm and working alongside her husband; enjoyed gardening, loved tomatoes and had several areas around the yard with flowers; was a talented seamstress, made many of her children’s clothes; grew up and lived most of her life within a 5-mile radius; was self-educated and had a vast knowledge in numerous subjects; kept journals all her adult life enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, garage sales and national/political news; was a gifted artist throughout her life, did paintings, pencil sketches, and painted china pieces for gifts; member of the Grand Island China Painters for over 20 years, a 4-H leader, member of the DAV auxiliary and a member of Fullerton United Methodist Church
Survivors include: her children, Carol Hasemann of Elkhorn, Jeanne Cunningham and James and Rose Cunningham, all of Kearney, Jeffrey Cunningham and Mike Bartley of San Diego, Julia and Steve Kucera of Oxford and Matthew and Janene Cunningham of Fullerton; nine grandchildren, Phillip, Seth, Austin, Spencer, Beth, Ben, Cody, Tyson and Megan; one great-grandchild, Freya; brother, Melvin McCray of Long Pine; and sisters, Wilma Greer of Lincoln and Bethene Turner of Salisbury, N.C.

After marriage, lived for some time in Clay Center and Grand Island; settled in Kearney, was a longtime resident
Was active in farm life, extension and card clubs; developed a lifelong love for animals during this time; worked at Kaufmann’s Department Store and later at Baldwin Filters; member of Zion Lutheran Church
Married: Elwin Daugherty on Sept. 24, 1974; had one son, John
Retired from Baldwin Filters
Moved to assisted living in 2012, first in Kearney, and later at Chrisoma West in Holdrege; from November 2015 until her death, resided at Christian Homes
Activities: enjoyed collecting dolls, owls and elephants; was known as a kind person who always had a place in her house for those in need; enjoyed reading romance novels; later in life, enjoyed slot machines and scratch cards; was always ready for a trip to the casinos; enjoyed Holdrege’s North Park and spent many hours watching and feeding the ducks and geese; in childhood, enjoyed visiting her Grandpa and Grandma Hill’s farm near Deweese, and often talked about riding in the back of her grandfather’s Model A and how cold it was sitting in the rumble seat
Survivors include: one sister, Alice Procter of Aurora; daughters, Cindy Mayo of Kenesaw, Susan Cleaver of Kearney and Barbara Knuth and her husband, Stanley Knuth, of Oxford; son, John Daugherty and his wife, Margaret, of Kearney; four grandchildren, Kristi Castillo, Eric Cleaver and Dusty Knuth of Kearney and Dylan Knuth of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Ian and Maya Castillo of Kearney; stepchildren, Don Daugherty and his wife, Sheila, of Adair, Ore., Patty Huff and her husband, Mark, of Kennewick, Wash., and Kathy Brison and husband Ken of Papillion; 11 step-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and one nephew, Richard Procter and friend Casey of Grand Island

Born in 1928 in a stone house on her father’s farm located northeast of Sumner; was the only child of Rudolph and Ethel (Rash) English; lived on the farm and attended the Victor Hills one-room schoolhouse through the second grade
After parents’ divorce, lived for a year in Omaha with relatives, returned to Kearney to live with her mother and step-father in 1938; attended Kearney schools, graduated in 1946
During high school and after graduation, worked at Jack’s Grocery Store
Married: LaMoyne Fern 1946 in Oberlin, Kan., one day before her 18th birthday
Was a devoted wife and mother; later helped operated the A&W Drive In, 1963-1969, and later operated the Tastee Freeze near the college campus; in 1972, began working for Roger Pollat at the Cowpoke on East 25th Street, later purchased the store and moved it to downtown Central Avenue; recruited LaMoyne to be the Santa whom children could visit in the gingerbread house on Central Avenue
Activities: was active in the PTA; was an active member of the United Methodist Church for more than 60 years; served many organizations in the community; enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad; will be remembers for her fabulous cooking
Survivors include: her daughter, Julie Thatcher and husband Fred of Overland Park, Kan.; son, John Fern and wife Janis of Glenvil; daughter-in-law, Barb Fern of Grand Island; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and half-sisters, Ardyth “Pinki” Herrick and husband Ike of Lakeway, Texas, and Shirley Scoville and husband Neil of Kansas City, Mo.

Was the oldest of six children; grew up near Juniata and graduated from Juniata High School, attended Hastings College for two years and later graduated from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan., with degrees in chemistry and math
Military: U.S. Navy, served as an officer on several ships in the Pacific Fleet during World War II
Married: Wanda L. Dysart on June 4, 1946, at the First Baptist Church of Augusta, Kan.
After marriage, returned to San Diego, worked on decommissioning the USS Bull
After discharge, returned to Shelton, worked in agriculture production, helped develop the turkey production industry in central Nebraska, resulting in the Nebraska Turkey Ranch and the Nebraska Turkey Growers Inc. plant at Gibbon; was one of the founding grower-owners of NC+ Hybrids, & Nebraska seed company that grew to market through more than 1,500 dealers nationally and internationally; was one of the founders of Gangwish Farm & Grain Inc. at Shelton and the founder of Gangwish Seed Farms; served in various Nebraska business organizations, was on the board of directors for the Norbest Turkey Growers Association and the Nebraska Crop Improvement Association
Activities: was an active member of the Gibbon Baptist Church and of First Baptist Church in Kearney, served numerous roles in the church; especially enjoyed serving as chairman of the new building committee in Gibbon; had a strong faith in God using it to quietly guide his life, family and church community; served on the Board of Trustees for Ottawa University; valued his family, especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Survivors include: his wife of 70 years, Wanda, of Kearney; seven children and their spouses, Cheryl and Larry Glazier of Grand Island, Janet and Greg Burger of Luverne, Minn., Randy and Sherry Gangwish of Shelton, Gene and Carol Gangwish of Harrisburg, Pa., Greg and Carol Gangwish of Kearney, Duane and Tricia Gangwish of Lincoln, and Paul and Deb Gangwish of Shelton, 20 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Loree Elliot of Kearney and Christine Underwood Barr of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother and spouse, Carl and Louise Gangwish of Kearney; and sister-in-law Treva Gangwish of Wood River

Military: 1971-1974; was sent to Monterey Defense Language Institute, learned Hungarian, then was sent to Germany to monitor broadcasts from behind the Iron Curtain but ended up repairing Jeeps
Attended the University of Colorado-Boulder, graduated with a degree in German
Married: Carol Lilly in May 1983
Later attended Colorado School of Mines, then his career in surveying; moved to Nebraska, 1992, and worked as a licensed land surveyor for Buffalo Surveying Corp.
Activities: was a talented artist and musician who played guitar and piano with flair and emotion in rock and bluegrass bands; other favorite activities were listening to music, drinking fine beer, reading and taking online math and statistics classes
Survivors include: his wife, Carol Lilly of Amherst; daughter, Daniela Garvue of Seattle; son, Max Garvue of Lincoln; sisters, Joanne Susan and Dena Garvue; and brothers, Gary, Barry and Craig Garvue

Was an entrepreneur, owned several businesses over his lifetime; was the sole proprietor of a security business, a professional photographer, a wrestling coach at FWB High for many years, an avid outdoorsman and fly fisherman; was deeply spiritual; loved God, nature and above all, his family and friends; lived his life helping and supporting others above himself; was a selfless gentleman treating all with respect and kindness

After graduated, served as pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cambridge, Trinity Lutheran in Rock Springs, Wyo., Grace Lutheran in Grand Island, Zion Lutheran in Denison, Iowa, and St. Paul Lutheran in Ogdon, Utah; in retirement served churches in the Kearney Circuit that included North Shelton, Amherst and Sumner; for the past 17 years had served as the senior care pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney
Activities: member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church; enjoyed many hobbies, which especially included quilting

Activities: worked and volunteered for churches throughout her lifetime, including Faith United Methodist in Kearney and Transformation United Methodist in House Springs; shared her love of learning through teaching early in her career and continued later in life by giving piano lessons; sang in praise bands and church choirs, played numerous instruments; enjoyed camping; old Westerns, especially “Gunsmoke”; reading mysteries and history; traveling; Bible studies; United Methodist Women; and, most of all, spending time with her four grandchildren, Kiefer and Reid Lichtenberg and Aspen and Willow Hopkins

After marriage, lived in Minden; was a livestock feed salesman for Walnut Grove for 32 years; moved to Kearney in 2002 and have wintered in Texas for 20 years
Activities: his life revolved around the family; enjoyed the times at Summer Haven, boating and water skiing; enjoyed people and visiting; was a great fix-it man; member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney

Activities: was passionate about serving his country and his community, encouraged everyone he knew to do the same; loved all aspects of agriculture, prided himself as a steward of the land; in retirement, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In 1998, embarked on one of his most rewarding accomplishments by walking to his 50th class reunion in Gibbon from Pinetop, Ariz.; his journey covered 1,042 miles over 51 days; his purpose was to raise money for the scholarship funds of Southern Valley High School near Stamford and Gibbon High School, his alma mater

Activities: was proud of her Latin heritage, served in several roles as an advocate for all people of the community; was a volunteer for the Central Nebraska Hispanic Awareness Center, also served as the director of the Folklore Dance Group; was very involved as a Pioneer doing ministerial work for the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation for over 20 years
Surviving relatives include her husband, Celestino Zapata of Kearney; children, Heather Magdalena and husband Placido Del Campo of Kearney, Zeferina S. Aguliar and husband Juan Carlos of Iowa, Demetrio Zapata of Nevada, Gregorio Zapata of Kearney, Jerry Zapata and wife Adrianna of Texas, Cynthia Zapata of Colorado and Celestino N. Zapata and husband Patrick Burkhart of Washington, D.C.; five brothers; nine sisters; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren
Was preceded in death by her father, Francisco Abraham Diaz; and two sisters
