Twenty-ninth Annual reunion

Memorial Report.

The following report of deaths in the ranks of the pioneers and old settlers for the year past was read by Secretary George Wilkins:

Mrs. Peter Gigear died at her home near Emerson, Nebraska, Friday, August 27, 1909, at the age of 51 years. She had been a resident of this county about 25 years.

Mrs. Ann Reed, died at the poor farm Friday, September 1, 1909, at the age of 82 years. She had resided in Dakota county a number of years.

Freddie Bichel died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, Monday, September 27, 1909, at the age of 17 years. He was born and reared in this country.

Gerald Culkin, aged 24 years, died at his home in Billings, Montana, Tuesday, September 28, 1909. He was born and raised in this county.

Mrs. Patrick O’Neill, another of the pioneers of ‘56’, died at the home of her son, Henry W. O’Neill, near Jackson, Nebraska, Friday, October 1, 1909. She was one of the Father Tracey colony.

Mervin Jay, aged 26 years, died in Kansas City, Missouri, Sunday, October 3, 1909. He was born in this county and lived here nearly all his life.

Mrs. Sarah Kinkead crossed the dark river of death on Tuesday, October 5, 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R.L. Fegley, of Dalton, Nebraska, at the age of 82 years. She was a kind, Christian lady, and united with the Lutheran church when but 14 years of age.

Mrs. Jennie W. Brown departed this life on Tuesday, October 12, 1969, at her home in Homer, Nebraska, at the age of 57 years. She came to this county about 30 years ago.

Mrs. George Peterson died at her home at Clear Lake, Iowa, Monday, October 18, 1909. She was a former resident of this county.

John Kerwin, died at his home near Emerson, Nebraska, Sunday, October 31, 1909, at the age of 68 years. He came to this county in 1889.

On November 30, 1909, Charles Stoltze, died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 26 years. He came to Dakota county with his parents 26 years ago.

Michael Fague died at his home in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Thursday, November 4, 1909. He served his country during the Civil War.

Mrs. Ida Adeline Crouch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Blessing, of Jackson, Nebraska, departed this life on Sunday, November 7, 1909, at the home of her parents, aged 41 years. She was born and raised in this county and had resided here nearly all her life.

Howard P. Crozier died at his home in Dakota City, Nebraska, Saturday, November 13, 1909, at the age of 51 years. He came to this county in 1882.

On Sunday, November 14, 1909, George Leamer answered the call of the grim reaper, at the age of 87 years. He came to Dakota county in April 1866, a sturdy pioneer, and by his untiring efforts has amassed a handsome competence.

George Hammer died at his home in Ardimore, Oklahoma, Friday, November 19, 1909. He was formerly a resident of this county.

Bertha m. Richter died at St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, Monday, November 22, 1909, at the age of 18 years. Her entire life was spent in this county.

Mrs. Mary Thuet crossed the dark valley of death at the home of her mother, Mrs. Thomas Ashford, Sr., of Homer, Nebraska, Monday, November 30, 1909, at the age of 47 years. She was a kind, Christian lady, born and raised in this county and was beloved by all who knew her.

Mrs. Frank Sawyers died at her home near Homer, Nebraska, Saturday, December 18, 1909, at the age of 41 years. The deceased had resided in this county since 1882. She was missed by a host of friends.

Mark fair died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kate Watrous, at For-24, 1909, at the age of 85 years. He was one of the pioneer residents of this county, coming here in 1867.

George Pilgrim, aged 20 years, died at his home in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Tuesday, December 28, 1909. He was another of the pioneer residents of ‘57’.

Mrs. Matilda Warner died at the home of her niece, Mrs. D.D. Lints, of Allen, Nebraska, Thursday, December 30, 1909, at the age of 80 years. She was always present at our annual reunions and was spoken of as one of God’s noble women.

1910

Mrs. Bridget Rooney died at her home in Hubbard, Nebraska, Tuesday, January 5, 1910, at the age of 73 years. She came to this county in 1862.

Maurice O’Connor died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, Wednesday, January 5, 1910, at the age of 40 years. The deceased had resided in Dakota county a number of years.

Mrs. Joseph Shanahan died at her home near Vista, Nebraska, Saturday, January 8, 1910, at the ripe old age of 81 years. She came to this county 40 years ago.

Mrs. Catherine Reiley/Relley died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.J. McBride, of Jackson, Nebraska, Thursday, January 13, 1910, at the ripe old age of 81 years. She had been one of the early pioneer residents of this county.

Mrs. M.J. Herman died at her home in Homer, Nebraska, Monday, January 17, 1910, at the age of 70 years. She had resided in Dakota county over 30 years.

Mrs. Mary Sullivan died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.P. McEwen, of Sioux City, Iowa, Sunday, January 16, 1910, at the age of 78 years. She came to this county in 1868.

Thomas McCann, died at the poor farm, Monday, February 1, 1910, at the age of 59 years. He had been a pioneer resident of this county.

Mrs. Mary Fitzsimmons died at her home near Hubbard, Nebraska, Wednesday, February 2, 1910. She had been a pioneer resident of this county.

Mrs. Catherine May Burcum Lane died at her home near Winnebago, Nebraska, Saturday, February 5, 1910, at the age of 28 years. She was born in this country and resided here nearly all of her life.

Mrs. F.M. Bookhart died at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mary Latin, of Dakota City, Nebraska, Wednesday, February 10, 1910, at the age of 31 years. She was born in this county.

Mrs. Michael McKivergan died at her home near Pipestone, Minnesota, Tuesday, February 23, 1910. She was a good, Christian lady, and is missed by a host of friends.

John Flider died at St. Vincent’s hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday, February 26, 1910, at the age of 73 years. He had resided in this county a number of years.

Mrs. Samuel Farrer, died at her home in Omaha, Nebraska, Wednesday, March 2, 1910. She had been a pioneer resident of this county and always attended the pioneers’ and old settlers’ picnic.

Mrs. D.C. Dibble, aged 71 years, died at her home in Palo Alto, California, Friday, March 11, 1910. She was one of the pioneer women of this county.

James Riggs died at his home near Richmond Center, Wisconsin, Tuesday, April 12, 1910, at the age of 35 years. He was born in this county.

Mrs. Knud Hansen died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Boesen, in California, Friday, March 25, 1910. She had resided in this county a number of years.

Amzi Adams, died at his home in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Wednesday, April 13, 1910. He had resided in this county a number of years.

Peter Sullivan, a pioneer resident of this county, died at his home near Vista, Nebraska, Friday, April 15, est Grove, Oregon, Friday, December 1910, at the ripe old age of 80 years. He was one of the early settlers of this county.

B.M. Pixey, aged 89 years, died at his home in Dakota City, Nebraska, Saturday, April 16, 1910. He was one of the pioneers of ‘56’.

Andrew Bonderson, died at his home near Emerson, Nebraska, Saturday, April 16, 1910, at the age of 79 years. He had resided in this county for many years.

Mrs. Emma J. Goff, formerly Emma J. Way, died near Waterbury, Nebraska, April 18, 1910, at the age of 35 years. She was a former resident of this county.

John Chamberlain died at a Sioux City hospital Wednesday, April 21, 1910. He had been a resident of Omadi precinct for a number of years.

John Robertson, aged 76 years, died at his home in Dakota City, Nebraska, Thursday, May 12, 1910, at the age of 82 years. He came to this county in 1869.

John Jordan, aged 78 years, died at the old soldiers’ home in Hastings, Nebraska, Sunday, May 1, 1910. He served his county well and faithfully. He was a member of Company G, Ninth Illinois infantry.

Martin Walsh died at his home near Vista, Nebraska, Tuesday, May 11, 1910, at the age of 33 years. He was born and reared in this county.

M.M. Hickey, aged 34 years, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. B. Hickey, of Jackson, Nebraska. He was born and raised in this county.

Mrs. John Myers, Sr., aged 68 years, died at her home in Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday, May 21, 1910. She was one of the earlier pioneer women of this county.

Major Edwin Sharp died at his home in Tacoma, Washington, Sunday May 29, 1910, at the age of 66 years. He had been one of the pioneer residents of this county, coming here in 1866. Mrs. Sharp, his first wife, was drowned in the Missouri river near what is known as the A.J. Parker farm, while crossing the river.

David Campbell, a resident of South Sioux City, died at his home Saturday, July 9, 1910, at the ripe old age of 85 years. He had resided in this county many years.

Charles Bradley Rustin died at Nome, Alaska, Monday, July 18, 1910. He was one of the pioneer residents of this county.

Perry Leamer, aged 76 years, died at his home near Dakota City, Nebraska, Wednesday, August 10, 1910. He was another of Dakota county’s pioneer residents, come here in 1867.

Christ Waddell, aged 74, died at the home of his son, Charles Waddell, in South Sioux City, Nebraska, Wednesday, August 17, 1910. He had resided in this county since 1868. He was a honest, upright, worthy citizen and is missed by a host of friends.
