OLD PIONEER PASSES AWAY
John Todd Howard Died Last Thursday. Funeral Sunday. Buried at Vesta John Todd Howard was born in Schenectady county, New York 18 Jan 1832 and departed this life last Thursday, Aug 25, 1910, aged 78 years 7 months and 7 days.
He moved to Illinois at an early age, from there to Minn. about 1864, and to Nebraska in the spring of 1869, settling on a homestead south of Sterling, where he resided until about four years ago, when he came to Sterling.
Mr. Howard was converted at the age of sixteen and united with the M.E. Church, of which he was always a consistent member. He was married to Jane Williams, Feb 24, 1857, in Iowa City, Iowa. To this union were born three children, C. F.and W. E. of Colby Kansas, and Willard W. who died at the age of sixteen.
After the death of his wife, he was married, in Geneva, Illinois to Phoebe Jane Holman, who died Sep 12, 1887, near Sterling, Neb. To this union was born eleven children, of whom the following survive him. H.V. of Sterling, Arthur and Wesley of Oklahoma, and John of Texas. Mrs. Mary Place of Ponoma, Mo., Mrs. Hattie Reed and Mrs. Grace Dobbs of Thomas, Oklahoma. Deceased: Irving, Theresa, Agnes and an infant.
Mr. Howard was always active in religious work and always took much interest in the affairs of the community in which he lived.
