There are only 55 souls in the 1885 census in the precinct of Antelope
in Cheyenne County, which is now Kimball in Kimball County. The
town
of Antelopeville was officially changed to Kimball after December first
of 1885. An article in the Sidney Telegraph indicated that the
census
count was not accurate. A writer for the paper felt, and I feel
the
same way, that the census takers were afraid to go out
in the prairie. Therefore the cowboys are the ones who did not
get counted in the 1885 census. Cheyenne county was later divided
into seven counties (Banner,
Cheyenne, Deuel, Garden, Kimball, Morrill and Scotts Bluff.)
