The Joseph Zohner family came from Australia in the seventies or early eighties and as previously stated, he worked on the railway section crew for years until sickness overtook him.

The Zohner home was where George Bishop now lives. Their children included John Sr., Ernest, Robert, Charlie and Herman. All have passed away. The widow of John, Sr., and the widow of Herman still live in Battle Creek.

The Karl Balofski family (he also was for years a track worker) lived in the house now owned by George Borgelt. They owned all of the land north to the railroad tracks where the Oscar Kilgore and Mrs. William Luebcke homes now stand.

The David R. Simmons family has been referred to first as homesteading in Section 28, Battle Creek Precinct and then retiring to Battle Creek. They built the house which later became the N. D. Evans home. Mrs. Evans was Mattie Simmons, for many years a teacher in rural and Battle Creek Elementary schoolrooms. They had two sons, Fred and Milton. Both boys followed their mother's encouragement to become teachers.

The Willard M. Kreidler family came to Battle Creek about 1908. He was assistant cashier in the Citizens State Bank under Harry Barnes. About 1919,. he became assistant County Treasurer and then for a number of terms was elected County Treasurer. After that for many years, served as County Assessor. Mr. Kreidler was an able musician, adding much to the Battle Creek band while here.

The Republican and the Enterprise (the Democratic paper) for years carried on a running editorial battle. Perhaps this did not lead to community harmony, but it made interesting reading and kept the people informed. Remember there was no radio or other news media.
