August Eyl, Carl Schulz, Carl Praeuner, Albert Manley, John Prauner, Reimer Gardels, George Seckel, Herman Eyl, Theodore Eyl, Henry Stolle, Bernard Stolle, Fredrick Scheerger, Michael Warnke, George Heuerman and Henry Hilgin. Of these men, August Eyl, Carl Schulz and Carl Praeuner were elected as the first board of elders.
It is presumed that the congregation continued to use the school house for services as it was not until 1877 that it was resolved to purchase a site in town. The congregation bought the site which was later sold to the First Baptist Congregation (which is the location where the Elmer Kohl, Mrs. Arthur Gronau and Victor Gronau dwellings now stand) and the Lutherans bought the site where the present parochial school, the parsonage and teacherage now stand.
From 1878 Reverend Jacob Hoffmann, then pastor at Green Garden began to serve St. John's. The first service by Pastor Hoffmann was held September 19, 1878.
It was in 1881 that the congregation erected its first church building, 24x32, which later served for church and school purposes.
In September 1882, the Reverend A. H. Caemmerer was installed as the first resident pastor. A parsonage was built in the same location of the present parsonage. It was razed when the new parsonage was built in 1904.
