THE WAHOO STATE BANKWahoo, Nebraska
In 1982, Wahoo State Bank celebrated fifty years of service to the Wahoo community. The locally owned and operated bank was founded September 17, 1931 by John G. Hohl and ten other businessmen who met for the purpose of organizing a state bank. On that day the articles of incorporation were introduced and approved for adoption. Total Capital subscribed was $50,000. John G. Hohl was elected president of the newly formed bank along with E.G. Risk, vice president, Howard Mielenz, cashier and C.G. Hohl, assistant cashier. Elected to serve as directors were John G. Hohl, Albert Havel, M.A. Phelps, W.T. Pickett and E.G. Risk. Wahoo State Bank began doing business on January 2, 1932 in the former Saunders County National Bank Building. In 1949, after 17 years as president, John G. Hohl passed away and was succeeded by Clarence G. Hohl. Clarence served as president for 12 years before passing away in 1961. Ray W. Hohl followed as president of Wahoo State Bank. In 1969, the bank building underwent a complete remodeling of the exterior and interior. Absent from the lobby and face of the bank building after remodeling were the old four-sided chiming clock, replaced by a rotating time-temp clock, and inside, formerly mounted on the walls, a buffalo head, elk head and eagle. An open house was held - to celebrate the event. In 1971, after 10 years of service as president, Ray W. Hohl died and was succeeded by current president, Robert J. Hohl. The year 1978 brought the introduction of Wahoo State Bank to the computer age. In that year, an in-house computer was acquired to help keep pace with the growth of the bank and provide faster, more efficient service to the customers. As of December 31, 1982 total resources of Wahoo State Bank were $12,364,000. Current directors on the board are Helen Divis, Doug Falke, Adeline Hohl, Emma Hohl, John R. Hohl, Robert J. Hohl and Anton A. Sabatka. Wahoo State bank is proud to have contributed to the growth and development of Saunders County over the past fifty years.
