"Coming to Nebraska in 1856, when only a little fringe of white settlement clung along the Missouri River, Mr. and Mrs. Knapp were true pioneers. They lived in danger from hostile Indians. Went hungry and cold. endured all the hardships of pioneer life, worked together to help subdue the wilderness and for more than half a century were permitted thus to labor together and to see savagery give place to civilization. Theirs a high place upon the roll of those hard pioneers whose toil and sacrifice made the wilderness to blossom and bear fruit. Theirs a record of long, blameless, helpful lives.
