CERTIFICATE OF MARRIAGE Territory of Nebraska, Cass County, Plattsmouth, 1865 This Certifies, That on the 28 day of May A.D. 1865, at Mr P Tarpennings in Saunders County, according to law, and by authority, I duly Joined in Marriage, Mr. Madison Carr and Miss Nancy J Tarpenning and that there were present as witnesses Marcus Brush + Hubert Brush Given under my hand, the 28 day of May A.D. 1865 G. - the top left corner of the document contains a stamp with "5" on each corner, a picture of George Washington in the middle, "INTER. REVENUE." at the top, "CERTIFICATE" at the bottom, written over the stamp is the date 1865 May 28
- on the line beginning "in Saunders", the document has "in said county" with said lined through and Saunders written above
- on the line beginning "Marriage", the name is written Madison and someone has written Addison in pencil above
- on the line beginning "were present" the name of the second witness has some pencil corrections to Herbert
- the bottom left corner of the document bears the name of the printer "CARTER, HUSSEY, CURL, Printers, Des Moines, Iowa"
- the reference to "P. Tarpenning" is William Perry Tarpenning, Nancy Jane's father
