In the year 1938, there started to the Valparaiso Grade School, a group of little children. This group consisted of: Carolyn Jasa, Ja Ann Parker, Leila Brown. Twila Carlson, Shirley Ahl, Bill and Dick Green, Pauline Meyers, Eugene Sobolik, Robert Hanson. Joyce Peterson and Rodney Cheever. Our teacher was Agnes Gumbel Amen. In October of that year we gained Barbara Pokorny, who came from Oak Ridge School. We had the same pupils in the second grade as in the first. In the third grade we gained Patty Vincent and Lloyd Sulliven and lost Shirley Ahl. We lost Bob Hanson, Joyce Peterson, Twila Carlson, Rodney Cheever, Leila Brown,- Patty Vincent, Lloyd Sullivan, Pauline Meyers, Richard and Bill Green and gained Tom Tracy, Erma Jakoubek and Earl McGinnis in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades. In the seventh grade our class was very small, but we gained two pupils -- Larry Lee Nichelson and Johnnie Truhlicka. Our last year of grade school was successful --we all graduated from the eighth grade under Doris Erickson. In the ninth grade we gained Patrick Barry. Emil Bouc, Margaret Krafka. Gladyce Kubik, Don Machacek, Eugene Matulka, Marilyn Nickelson, Iver Piper, William Rezac, Harlan States, Andrew Steyer. Edwin Tvrdy, Ethel Rezac. Ludvik Walla and Shirley Ahl, and lost Johnnie Truhlicka. Shirley Ahl and Iver Piper left us in the tenth year. From then on until now, the same ones have been here. "Bolts and Nuts" was the play put on by the Juniors in 1948. The Banquet was set to fit the year 1949, --49'ers scene. We received our .class rings in November. In February of 1950, we, the Seniors, had our class pictures taken at the Anderson Studio in Lincoln. Our class play was "Silas Smidge From Turnip Ridge". We all --in the Senior Class, leave just as we came in --"A GROUP OF CHILDREN". |
