100 Years Ago - 1903

Marshal Hupp has asked us to inform the public that the pasture season is over and that cows will positively not be allowed to run loose in town.

A fat baby girl, weighing over 11 pounds arrived in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sailor Wednesday morning.

The punkin's done been frosted
There is picking of the corn;
So keep your optic peeled for winter;
For it's coming, sure as you're born.

Sunday while Misses Stella and Hattie Parker were out driving, just as they were about to drive across the crossing at Shattuck's corner, the buggy tongue dropped down from the neck yoke, ran under the crossing and broke near the buggy. The horses became frightened and commenced to run. Several men were not far away but did not have the nerve to get in front of the frightened horses, until David Clark suddenly grasped the situation and managed to get hold of one of them, finally throwing it down and bringing it to a stop, and the young ladies got out of the buggy. Those who saw it say that Mr. Clark took desperate chances of getting severely injured, or even killed, and without doubt saved the young ladies from similar chances.

A shooting match and dance will be given at Alva May's place, 10 miles southeast of Gordon, on Tuesday, November 24. About 40 turkeys will be put in for the fun. Shooting, skating, foot racing and other amusements are provided as methods to secure the turkeys. A splendid dinner will be served for those wishing it at the usual rate of 25 cents. Plenty of fun and plenty to eat, and a general good time is assured. The day will be finished by a danced with plenty of room and good music. Everybody is cordially invited. Bring the ladies and give them a chance to win.
