Founding of Methodist Church
Mrs. M.E. Hohensee Tells of Times When Everybody Enjoyed Mush and Milk Socials

An Appeal to Successors
Young Folks Should Take the Burdens From Older Shoulders

Having arrived in Hebron in 1878, you may know there were only a few Methodist people, without a church home. consequently, we were made to enjoy the fellowship of the Christian church for a period of about four years, after which we had a minister who preached for us every two weeks.

In 1882, Harrison, or Grandpa, Coon started out with a subscription list. With that was subscribed by our citizens and a loan from the church extension board of $300, we were able to build a church on what is now known as the Old Klaer property. Our pastor at that time was Peter Van Fleet, and the original members were, as I remember them, Harrison Coon and wife, Mr. Pattrick and family, Dr. I.M. Fry and family, Henry Burgess and family, F.M. Gallant and family, Granma Glenn, F.W. Hohensee and wife, Damer Barrett and family, Mrs. Jane Bennett.

In the fall of 1883, the church being completed, was dedicated.

I remember with pleasure the many social times we had, some of them being mush and milk socials. Did we enjoy mush and milk? Why, yes, just as much as we do the lunches we have now, with all the trimmin's.

After a few years we decided our church was too small, so we moved to the present location.

Whle we are at this time looking backward, let us not forget to look forward, as we get older ones are laying down our work, one by one, we are pleased to note how the young people are taking up the burden of the church and going forward to evangelize the world.
