Last Saturday evening our village was stunned by receiving sad news of the death of Bertram Sebastian DeRidder. Only a few people knew that he was sick.
Death overtook him after suffering only two days with the fatal disease painter's colic.
Bertram S. DeRidder was born at Saratoga N.Y. Febr. 28, 1850. Married Rebecca Jane Kinzie at Beatrice, Nebraska June 29, 1880, shortly after his arrival in Nebraska. He passed away at 7:30 pm , September 29, 1900. Aged 50 years, 7 months and 2 days. He leaves a wife and a daughter to mourn his loss. Funeral service took place at the residence of the deceased at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. T.H. Lillie and the remains were laid to rest in the Alexandria cemetery. The many friends of the bereaved family extend to them their heartfelt sympathy.

Mary (Kellogg) Dill
MARY E. (KELLOGG) DILL: Born Jan. 12, 1823, at Dayton, Ohio. Was married to William H. Dill Sept. 9, 1841, at Lafayette, Ind. From this union came seven sons: R. S. Dill, of Cheney, Nebr.; J. H., P. K., M. C., and G. R. Dill, of Belvidere, Neb.; A. M. Dill, of Logansport, Ind.; and C. C. Dill, of Denver, Colo.; two daughters: Mrs. M. L. Morphet, of Belvidere and Emma B. Smith (deceased). Her husband preceded her in death June 19, 1893.
She and her husband united with the Church of Christ in 1856 in Cass Co., Ind. She began to fail rapidly and on Jan. 4 she was taken to Omaha and placed under the care of Dr. Jonas of the M. E. Hospital, one of the ablest surgeons of Nebraska. Her surgery revealed a cancerous tumor for which there was no relief.
She died Feb. 20, 1898, at the residence of her son, G. R. Dill, in Belvidere. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Church by the pastor, Earl E. Boyd, after which the remains were interred in the Belvidere cemetery by the side of her husband.
