Mrs. Anna Flagle
MRS. ANNA [McDANIEL] FLAGLE was born April 23, 1863 in Mason county, Illinois, and died at her home southeast of Alexandria Tuesday, March 15th [1904] soon after noon, aged 40 years, 10 months, and 21 days. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Idell H. Wood, pastor of the Baptist church of Fairbury. She was married to W. S. Flagle, Sept. 18th, 1883 at Atlantic, Iowa. One of their two children died in infancy, the other survives. Among the many that mourn the loss of a dear one are the husband, the son, three sisters and three brothers. Richard McDaniel, one of the brothers, who was not able to be present at the funeral of his sister, sent the following poem, which was read at the funeral.
HOPE.
No wintry silence be it e'er so long But springtime wakes it with the bird's sweet song. No day so drear but after frost and snow, E'en in far north the sweetest roses blow. No night so long but daylight comes at last, And the pink dawn forgets the darkness past. No work so toilsome but the task begun On earth is finished with the Morning Sun. No way so rugged but the wanderer's feet Shall walk unweary in the golden street No parting ever but the God of Love Shall join the parted--in the land above.
