Alexandria's Oldest Resident Passes On Grandma Yoachim Nearly 94 Years Old at Death Dorothy Maul was born on March 16, 1849, in Tagschwaller on the Rhine, Germany, and died at her home in Alexandria, Nebraska, on December 10, 1942, at the age of 93 years, 8 months and 25 days. She came to the United States at the age of 22 years, coming to Smithfield, Ill., to the home of her sister. She was married to Peter Yoachim in 1873 in Smithfield, where they made their home for 16 years. In the spring of 1889 they came to Nebraska, locating near Alexandria on a farm of William Westerhoff; Mr. Yoachim bought the farm, now the home of his son John, where they moved in 1892. In 1918 Mr and Mrs. Yoachim moved to their home in Alexandria, where Mr. Yoachim preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1922. Ten children were born to them: eight daughters and two sons; all ten survive her, and all are past fifty years of age. Each gives honor to their father and mother now gone with their lives in their respective communities. They are: Mrs. Lena Huber, Alexandria; Mrs. Carrie Sinn, Alexandria; Mrs. Louisa Binns, Hebron; Mrs. Malinda Reynolds, Wichita, Kans.; Mrs. Christina Hart, Hydro, Okla.; Mrs. Lula Clark, Edmonton, Canada; William Yoachim, Edmonton, Canada; Mrs. Dora Burrows, Lewiston, Ill.; Mrs. Ella McFarland, Salt Lake City; and John Yoachim of Alexandria. With these there are 37 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren to mourn her passing, together with other relatives and a host of friends. Grandmother Yoachim was confirmed and joined the Lutheran Church in Germany at the age of 14. The Prayer Book she received then was her constant, spiritual companion to the end. After she came to Alexandria she affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. She has made many friends in the years granted her. She was resourcesul and thrifty all her life; her life's experiences were always interesting, inspirational and helpful. The delightful hospitality of her little home and her happy welcome, with the kindly devotion and appreciation she extended for every kindness, have endeared her to everyone who knew her. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. James C. Henrikson at the Presbyterian Church, and interment in the Alexandria cemetary, last Sunday afternoon.

OBITUARY.
ALENA CLARE YOUNG
ALENA CLARE YOUNG, born October 20, 1879, died September 7, 1896, at Hebron, Nebraska, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Byron F. Young.
Thus closes a fair young life, notwithstanding all had been done that loving hands and watchful care could do, to stay the ravages of that dread disease, consumption.
Clare was of a retiring and undemonstrative disposition and beloved by all of her acquaintances as evidenced by the kind ministrations and attention of her young friends and schoolmates during her illness and the last sad rites of burial. Her classmates, with whom she would have finished the high school work the coming year, formed a part of the funeral cortege. The floral offerings and emblems were beautiful.
The funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian church, of which she was a member, by Rev. S. Cooke, who gave an appropriate and most impressive sermon. A large concourse of friends accompanied the family to Rose Hill cemetery where all that was mortal of Clare was laid to rest.
CARD OF THANKS.
To the many friends and neighbors who so kindly assisted during the sickness and death and burial of our daughter and sister Clare, and who extended acts and words of sympathy, words cannot express our thanks and heartfelt gratitude.

Obituary of Eden's son Ervin Raymond Zion (my grandpa's brother - and it was ERVIN not ERWIN as the newspaper stated):
Erwin Zion Dead
Erwin Raymond, youngest son of Edna
Erwin was always a favorite among this many fiends and though he has been a constant sufferer of sugar diabetes for almost two years, still he was ever patient and bore his affliction with a fortitude of one far beyond his years.
Ervie, as he was commonly called, will be greatly missed by his host of friends, and especially by his little Sunday School class, and there will be a vacancy in the home that never can be filled.
Beside his father and mother, and two brothers - Clarence and Hubert, he leaves a multitude of friends and relatives to mourn his departure.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Hubbell at two o'clock Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. L. Kellogg and the remains laid to rest in the Hubell cemetery.
Although we bow to Heaven's high will
And it causes us heartfelt pain,
It is only for a few short fleeting years
Till we meet our dear loved one again.
.....
We wish to thank the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us during the sickness and burial of our beloved son and brother, Irwin Raymond. We also thank those friends who so kindly contributed to the splendid floral offering at the funeral
