Meyers, Edith, age 20 years, 3 months, and ? days, died at her father's residence in ? Wednesday, April 22,1896. The funeral occurred on April 23.
Miss Edith was well and favorably known in this city and many are the friends to mourn her death. She graduated from the Atkinson High School, June 1,1894.
The announcement of the death of Miss Edith Meyers, which occurred on Wed, April 22, was a shock to many in the community. It was known that she was dangerously ill, but only a few realized that the end was so near. She had lived in Lisbon for a number of years and had a wide circle of friends.

Miller, Daniel Stephen
Sept 9,1909, Stuart Advocate
Daniel Stephen Miller, died at his home near Newport, Rock Co, Nebr, Sept 3, 1909 of cancer of the stomach. He was born in Crawford Co, Penn, Nov 25,1833, being 75 years of age at the time of his death. He was the oldest of a family of 11 children, 3 sisters and 8 brothers, of which 2 sisters, and 7 brothers survive. While yet a small boy, he went with his parents to Ohio and after a short time they moved to Valpiraso, Indiana, where he remained until the years 1862, when the call came for men to save the Old Flag. He inlisted on Aug 6 in Company M, 4th Michigan Cavalry Volunteers, and served his county until JUly 1,1865 when he was honorably discharged. He returned to Valpiraso but did not settle down until he married, March 25,1873 at Princeton, Iowa to Anna A DuBoise. They lived at Princeton until the spring of 1886, when they removed to Kirkwood, Nebr. Later they removed to their present home.
Six children: were born to them, 3 boys and 3 girls, all of whom survive him. They were all present at the time of death except Anna, who returned to her home at Princeton, a short time before.
He was a kind father, a loving husband, and a friend to all.
The funeral was held at Stuart on Sunday, Sept 5 under the auspices of the Stuart GAR post at the M E Church, Rev C E Connell preached the funeral sermon. A large number of friends and neighbors showed their respects by following the remains to the Stuart Cem, where they were laid to rest.

Morgan, Wayne Beck
Feb 6,1914. Atkinson Graphic
Wayne Beck Morgan, the subject of this sketch, oldest son of Mr and Mrs Jas Morgan, was born in O'Neill May 2,1903 and departed from this life, Jan 27,1914.
When he was 3 years old his parents moved to Atkinson and the remainder of his short life on earth was spent in this place.
Being of an unusually cheerful, bright and friendly nature, he had endeared himself to a large circle of acquaintances. He was a favorite with school mates and teacher in the public school and his teachers in the Sabbath school have noticed and commented upon his reverence for religious teaching and his strong faith in God. So, as the span of life is not measured by years alone, this well beloved boy may have exerted a greater influence for good and left a deeper and sweeter impress upon the lives of parents and friends, than many who live out their three score years and ten.
Of members of the family, he leaves two little brothers, Kenneth and Foster and his father and mother to mourn his early death. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to this afflicted home.

Mueller, Robert
Nov 11,1909, Stuart Advocate
Robert Mueller, a German who for about 30 years has lived on a farm near O'Neill, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a .38 calibre revolver last week. He was seated in a rocking chair in his home when he commited the rash act, and the revolver was found lying on the floor beside him with one chamber empty. He was a bachelor about 50 years of age, lived alone, and his death was discovered by Mrs Hillard, a neighbor. The coronor, sheriff and undertaker from O'Neill went to the place and found the facts as above stated. Mr Mueller leaves about 15 thousand dollars worth of property, which will go to relatives in Germany. The body was buried at O'Neill.

DEATH OF JOHN V MURPHY
Another Holt County Pioneer has passed to the great beyond, While his passing was not in our midst his thoughts were always of the town where he met his first joys and sorrows and where he desired his body to rest when he had joined the Army of those who had passed to the Great Beyond.
The subject of this sketch was born in Keenasaw Co, Mich, at the Cliff Mine, Aug 10,1863. The family resided there for several years where his father died. After the lapse of a few years his mother was married to Patrick Murphy and they moved to this county in the spring of 1879. John Murphy was a boy at that time, as was the writer of this obituary, and our folks having come from the same part of Michigan, as well as the same part of Ireland, we were friends from the moments we first met, although John Murphy was 6 years older than we were. The Murphy family settled upon a quarter of land 4 miles northeast of this city and there the family lived for many years.
John Murphy figured he was never cut out for a farmer and he came to this city and entered the store of his brother-in-law, MM Sullivan, who at that time ran the largest general mercantile business in this section of the state. John's natural ability soon won him a place and it was but a short time until he was at the head of the largest mercantile business in this section of the state.
To be an employee of others, however, was not satisfactory to him, and he shortly engaged in business for himself and conducted a store in the building now occupied by Mr McManus and used as a grocery store. John was very prosperous in his business, but the hard times coming along he imaged he could do better and he left for Utah in the dark and dreary days of 1894. He was not satisfied, however, and returned to O'Neill, where he remained for 2 years and then finally left for Park City, where he remained up to the time of his death. When he first went to Park City he entered the employee of the Hennessey Stores and he was in their employee for several years, but he finally accumulated enough of this world's goods to start alone and he done so and met with marked success and at the time of his death he was head of the largest mercantile business establishment in Park City. He labored for success and found it, and those of us who knew him in the days that are gone rejoice int he fact that he made himself an important factor in the town in which he elected to make his home.
John Murphy and Mary Gibbons, and the writer knew them both well, were united in marriage by Father Cassidy on the 26 day of November, 1890, and no couple ever entered the martial harness under more favorable auspices. One is gone and the other lives, and we want to remember the many fine qualities of the one that has gone, and forget his faults, if he had any. As we knew him in his yourth, he was a good man. He was a good husband, father, brothers: and friend. Peace to his ashes.
John Murphy leaves to mourn his death, besides his loving wife, 3 sons, the majority of whom have grown to manhood, and knew the loving father who has passed beyond. He was a good father, good citizen and what man could be more.
The remains were shipped to this city and the funeral was held from the Catholic Church. Interment in the Catholic Cemetery beside those of his loved children: who had gone before. The pallbearers were old time friends of the deceased, men who knew him in the days of long ago, but on whom the tide of time is now fastening its claws.

ANOTHER OLD SETTLER PASSES AWAY
Patrick Murphy died at the home of his daughter, Mrs T J Enright in this city this morning after an illness of but a few weeks of heart trouble, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 6 days. The funeral will be held Saturday, interment in Calvary Cemetery.
Patrick Murphy was born at Cluen, County Cork, Ireland, on Feb 29,1840. When he was 13 years of age his parents came to this country and settled at Fall River, Mass, where he remained until 1860 when he went to northern Michigan, where he resided until the spring of 1878, when he came to this county and settled on a farm 4 miles northeast of this city. He was one of the pioneer settlers that formed what was known for years as the Michigan Settlement northeast of this city. He was united in marraige at Hancock, Mich to Mrs Bridget Murphy in 1868. To this union 4 children: were born, 3 of whom are living to mourn the death of a kind and loving father. The children: are Con G of Grants Pass, Oreg; Mrs Louie Storm of Gregory, SD; Mrs T J Enright of this city, all of whom were at his bedside when he passed away. There is also one step son, Felix Murphy, who resides in Oregon.
Mr Murphy always enjoyed good health, never having a severe sickness until taken with what proved to be his fatal illness some four weeks ago. He did not suffer any pain and enjoyed visiting with who called to see him. He retained all his facilities to the last.
Deceased was well known and admired by a large circle of old, living here for 40 years with the friends and acquaintances, having exception of about 4 years, which he spent in Montana, he was widely known to all the pioneers of the county, and there will be genuine sorrow in their ranks when they learn of his passing. He was a kind and indulgent father, a good citizen, and a true and loyal friend.
