DEATH OF MRS FRANK KAPLAN
The community was shocked to learn of the death of Mrs Frank Kaplan who passed away at her home sw of town Thur evening, March 11,1920 at 9 o’clock , aged 71 years 7 months 16 days.
Mrs Kaplan was born in July 1848 in Cechoslovakia, Europe.
Her maiden name was Anna Navratie.
She was married to Frank Kaplan in 1876. 5 children were born to this union, Joseph Kaplan, Anna, now Mrs Albert Kozisek, Rosa, Mrs Vencle Kozisek, Vencle Kaplan and Mary the youngest, who preceded her mother in death 15 years ago.
She came to this country in 1882 direct to Holt Co, where she lived until her death.
She had been ailing for sometime but during the last month heart trouble developed hastening the end.
Mrs Kaplan will be remembered as a good wife, a loving mother and a kind hearted neighbor.
She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, 2 sons, 2 dau, 13 grandchildren, several other relatives and a host of friends.
A large number were in attendance at the funeral. The floral tributes were beautiful.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Atkinson at 1 o’clock Sat afternoon, March 13. Rev Charles Kirkland conducted the service assisted by Rev Richardson and interment in Woodlawn Cem.

Had Lived In This Community Past 23 Years; Funeral Held at M E Church
Edward M Karr, well known farmer who lived in this community for the past 24 years, passed away at his home 16 miles southwest of Atkinson, Thursday, Jan 20. Mr Karr was 68 years of age and is survived by his wife and 8 children.
The Funeral service was held at the Methodist Church in Atkinson last Sunday afternoon, The church was crowded with relatives, friends and neighbors. Interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson.
Edward Martin Karr was born in Joliet, Illinois, on March 24,1869, and passed away at his farm home 16 miles southwest of Atkinson, Nebraska on Jan 29,1938, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 26 days.
Mr Karr came to Nebraska with his parents in 1888 and the family settled at Blue Hill. He was united in marriage on Feb 5, 1896 to Elsie Mary Greig at Blue Hill. To this union ten children were born.
The family moved to Atkinson in 1914 and for a time lived on a farm 4 miles west of town, where 2 of the sons preceded their father in death, Melvin Richard on Nov 19,1918 and George Philip on Jan 4,1926.
He leaves to mourn his death; his wife, Elsie; 5 daughters, Mary Kirkland, Ethel Wondercheck, Dora Neibauer, and Elva Karr, all of Atkinson, and Catherine Rossman of Ridgeway, Wisconsin; 3 sons, Troy, Eugene and Marvin, all of Atkinson. Also surviving him are 18 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Will, John, and Frank, all of Blue Hill, and 2 sisters, Addie Martin of Hastings, and Saddie Zimmerman of Blue Hill.
When he was an infant, Mr Karr was baptized in the Lutheran church. When he was a young man he became a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR E KEEFER CONDUCTED BY REV WM G VAHLE
Last rites for E Keefer, 76, former Atkinson feed, produce and farm implement dealer, were held Saturday afternoon at the Keefer home in the northwest part of town.
Mr Keefer died Thursday afternoon, May 22, after suffering several years with declining health. He had been a resident of this community for about 27 eyars. On Dec 23,1936 he and his wife Minnie, who survives him, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home here.
Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Emanuel Keefer was born March 12,1865 to Jonathan and Sara Keefer at Sunbury, Penn, and departed this life at Atkinson, May 22,1941, at the age of 76 years 2 months 10 days.
He made his home with his parents near Sunbury until he was 18 years of age, then came to Richardson Co, Nebr, where he lived with an aunt and uncle for 3 eyars. From there he went to Waverly, Nebr, where he was united in marriage to Minnie Tonkinson on Dec 23,1886. 6 children were born to this union.
In 1914 the family moved to a farm near Atkinson, and in 1920 moved to town where he resided the remainder of his life.
In 1921 he united with the Presbyterian Church of Atkinson.
He is survived by his wife, Minnie Keefer, 2 daughters and 1 son, Mrs Rose Mook of Pleasant Dale, Mrs Dorothy Elder of Atkinson, Ralph of O’Neill; 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, 3 sisters, who reside in Penn, 2 daughters and a son preceded him in death. Mrs Mary Millington, Mrs Iva Stewart and Wilbur Ray Keefer.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR S E KELLEY
S E Kelley, for 21 years a resident of Atkinson, passed away Saturday at his home following an illness of long duration from dropsy. Mr Kelley was 64 years of age.He was a member of Atkinson Lodge IOOF and of volunteer AF and AM at Tabor, Iowa.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday, interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr Kelley was a member fo Methodist Church of Atkinson, where he attended services as regularly as his health would permit. His was an exemplary life and his faith in Christ was firm, he expressing to several of his freinds who had talked to him, an assurance of life everlasting.
Samuel Edwards Kelley, was born near Napoleon, Ohio, Aug 12,1864. When he was 14 years of age his mother died, leaving him and a younger sister. The father, being unable to care for the little children, placed them in homes and Mr Kelley was brought up in the family of James Huffman and wife, they having no other son. He was made a member of the family which included two daughters, Rosa and Minnie.
The sister, Rachel, was raised by a family who took her to Michigan and the two lost track of each other until about 23 years ago when Mr Kelley's foster sister, Rosa, found out from a friend that Rachel was living in Colorado. Mr Kelley was at that time living in Pueblo,Colo and he at once began a correspondence which soon brought them together.
Edwards was educated in the country school and later attended high school and taught for some time. He read law with a firm in Napeoleon,later graduating and receiving a diploma from the law department of Northern U at Ada, Ohio. He was admitted to the bar in Indiana and practiced for 2 years at Warsaw, Indiana.
The call of the west drew him to Pueblo, Colo where he met Miss Bessie Corbit, who became his wife Oct 27,1907 at Faragut, Iowa. Immediately after their marriage they came to Atkinson where they have since lived with the exception of a year and half at Tabor, Iowa, a year at Neligh and a short time at Wood Lake.
While they lived at Wood Lake Mr Kelley's health began to fail and upon the death of his wife's mother, Mrs Jasper Corbit, they returned to Atkinson. Until his strength no longer would permit, Mr Kelley tenderly helped care for his wife's aged father, Jasper Corbit.

S W KELLY, 41 YEARS A NEWSPAPER EDITOR, DIES SUDDENLY AT HIS HOME
Editor S W Kelly, for 14 years publisher of The Atkinson Graphic, died suddenly at his home in Atkinson, Sunday, June 17, aged 67 years. It was thought by his family and friends that he had recovered from a spell of sickness suffered Tuesday of last week, when he felt so well during the day Sunday that he had planned to go back to his regular work Monday.
Late Sunday Mr and Mrs Kelly and son Tabor were riding in the family car and they stopped for a while at the J F Brady home. After a short time, Mr Kellly decided to go home, so Tabor took him in the car, leaving Mrs Kelly at Brady's. He removed his coat, went upstairs and lay down, telling Tabor not to forget to bring his mother home in about 20 minutes. When Mrs Kelly came home a few minutes later she found that her husband had passed away, apparently without a struggle.
S W Kelly, since coming to Atkinson in 1914, has taken a prominent part in the business affiars of this community. He and his newspaper were found always to be active boosters, financially and otherwise, of any civic program that meant improvement of this community. Two months ago he finished serving a two year term as mayor of Atkinson, turning the office over to his successor, J J Stilson.
At the Kelly home Wednesday, a large number of friends gathered on the lawn to hear the funeral services and pay their last respects.
One interesting and beautiful characteristic of Mr Kelly was his good temper- this is a noble characteristic and worthy of our emulation in these days of quarrels and harsh words. The memory of Mr Kelly as a man of kindly good temper is a pleasant memory, precious to his friends, and worthy to be cherished.
The impressive Masonic ritual service was performed at grave in Woodlawn Cemetery by masons of Atkinson of which Mr Kelly was a member, aided by members of adjacent lodges who were present. Many beautiful bouquets and floral pieces were tributes testifying to the esteem of his friends.
Silas Warren Kelly was born near Hazel Dell, Illinois on Aug 27,1861, and died at his home in Atkinson Sunday, June 17,1928, aged 67 years. He was the youngest son of Silas Warren and Mary Jane Kelly, the father a minsiter of the Christian Church. His boyhood days were spent on the farm at his home, where he attended the country schools, and later was a graduate of Central College at Danville, Ind.
In 1886 he came to Nebraska and with a colony of Illinois relatives and friends helped lay out and establish the little town of Charmpion, Chase Co, Nebr. 41 years ago, in 1887, Mr Kelly and Stanley Shoemaker established in this little town a frontier weekly newspaper. The Chase County Champion. This was the beginning of his 41 years of public service as a country newspaper editor, a life work that he thoroughly loved.
Jan 24,1891 Maude Isabelle Todd became his bride at Superior, Nebr, and at Champion their first two children were born, Truby Lois Charlotte and Eric Todd. Here the family lived until 1894 when they went to Stuttgart, Ark, where for three years they helped settle up another frontier territory.
The Kelly family came back to Nebr in 1897 and moved to Wisner, Cuming Co, where Mr Kelly exchanged a tree claim for a newpaper plant and established the Wisner Free Press. At this place the other two children, Ralph John and Tabor Warren were born.
Mr Kelly came to Atkinson in May 194 and purchased the Atkinson Graphic, which paper he edited until his death.
During the World War with the advice and consent of the President of the US, Mr Kelly was commissioned chairman of four Minute Men for this community to work in conjunction with the national committee on public information. Thus he continued in his family an unbroken war record of service to our country from the time of its declaration of Independence to the present day. His great grandfather, Lawrence Kelly was a soldier in Revolutionary War. His grandfather, Davis Kelly served in the war of 1812. At the outbreak of the Civil War his father organized and was captain of Co F, 59th Regiment, Ill, Volunteers and his oldest brother, John, was a lieutenant in the same company. They left their home for service just a few weeks before Silas Warren was born. Another brother, James C Kelly was a cavalry man in the Civil War. A number of Mr Kelly's cousins fought in the Spanish American War and his son Eric Todd was commissioned during the World War.
S W Kelly is survived by his wife, Maude Isabelle, four children, Mrs Truby Kirsch of Lincoln, Eric Todd of Pubelo, Colo;Ralph John and Tabor Warren of Atkinson; 3 sisters Mrs Eva Laymon of Chicago; twin sisters Elma of Chicago and Mrs Emma Young of Casey, Ill; two grandchildren, John Kelly Kirsch and Jo Ann Kelly. All were here except Mrs Laymon, whose age prevented her coming from Chicago.

FUNERAL TO BE HELD AT 2 AT METHODIST CHURCH, REV BISHOP OFFICIATING.
George Kirkland, pioneer homesteader and rancher in the Phoenix community northeast of here, and for 30 years a livestock dealer in Atkinson, passed away Wednesday, July 13 at Stuart hospital, where he was taken the first of the week.
Mr Kirkland was 77 years of age and had been in failing health the past few years, however he was quite active until shortly before his death. Two weeks ago, while cleaning up and burning weeds around his place, he suffered heat prostration. Although weakened by that experience, he had practically recovered and it was not the cause of his death. Doctors said that he died from an acute gall bladder ailment.
Funeral services will be held today at Methodist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr Kirkland was probably one of this community's most widely known farmers and former business men. He homesteaded in the Phoenix community 56 years ago and moved to Atkinson to engage in the livestock business in 1905. Through good years and bad, for nearly 30 years, he provided Atkinson with a market and built up a reputation for fair and honest dealing, and in days before the local sale pavilion, such dealers provided the small livestock producers with an outlet for their product.
George Kirkland was born May 8,1861 at Philadelphia, Penn, and passed away at Stuart, July 13,1938, aged 77 years, 2 months 5 days.
Until he was ten years of age his home was in Philadelphia, then he moved with his parents to the state of Iowa, where they purchased a farm and made their home.
Seeking profit and adventure, George, at the age of 17 years, went to Minn where he spent 2 years, then returned to Iowa and engaged in farming until the spring of 1882. In that year he came to Holt County, Nebr, and filed on a homestead northeast of Atkinson in what was then known as the Greeley neighborhood (now Phoenix).
On May 8, 1886, he and Miss Kate Stockwell were united in marriage at O'Neill. They resided on the original homestead for many years. Mr Kirkland was one of the pioneers of the livestock business in that part of the country, entering active buying and selling operations in the year 1890.
In 1905 he purchased the Atkinson livestock and grain market and he and his family moved to the place just east of Atkinson, which has since been their home. Mr Kirkland operated that business until 1934 when he retired from active business for a quieter life, his health beginning to fail.
His particular choice of amusement was baseball, which he enjoyed to the last, having been a player in his younger days. He was pitcher for the Greeley team in the nighties.
In his passing Holt County loses one of its foremost citizens, known all over the county and respected for his honesty, integrity and helpfulness to those who needed it.

DIES OF APPENDICITIS
Harvey Franklin Kissinger was born Sept 14,1913 at Celia, Nebr, near Atkinson, and died April 7,1924 at the Wilson hospital in Stuart, Nebr, aged 10 years, 6 months and 24 days.
About a year ago Harvey suffered a severe attack of appendicitis from which, with treatment, he seemed to have entirely recovered.
Last Friday morning he became suddenly ill and was taken to the hospital at Stuart, where an operation for appendicitis was performed the same day. Very little hope for his recovery was given from the first, as his condition was found to be critical. He lingered until Monday when death released him from his suffering.
He was a pupil in the fourth grade of the Atkinson schools, being unable to enter the fifth because of his long sickness and absence last year. He was able to be in his accustomed place Thursday of last week, apparently well as usual. He was more than ordinarily earnest and diligent in his school work and he will be greatly missed by his teacher and playmates, as to know him was to love him.
He was a regular attendant of the M E Sunday School and church services and it was there the funeral services were held Wednesday, April 9th, conducted by Rev E L Peterson, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother, Mr and Mrs Frank Kissinger, three sisters and two brother, one sister Alice Louise having preceded him in death in 1914.

Appropriate services were held at the house the 11th, the remains were laid to reat at Woodlawn Cemetery. May he who is able to comfort at all times confort those who are bereaved.

OBITUARY - KLECKNER
God in his goodness has seen fit to remove from our midst a kind, tender and loving mother, who was ever ready to administer to her children according to their needs, she has been spared to see all her children grown to man and womanhood.
Mrs Deborah Kleckner was born Oct 4,1833 in Perry County, Penn and died at Atkinson, Jan 2,1913, aged 79 years 2 months and 28 days. She was the mother of 9 children, of whom 7 survive her, four sons and 3 daughters. Her husband Henry KIeckner died at Ekalaka, Mont, Oct 29,1908, age at death 73 years 3 months 3 days.
Mr and Mrs Kleckner removed from Penn to Iowa where they resided for several years, from where they removed in 1883 to Stanton Co, Nebr, where she lived until the death of her husband, since which time she has made her home with Mrs Cora Thompson, her youngest daughter, where she passed away on the 2nd day of Jan, 1913. Deceased was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery at Atkinson.
Her departure will be missed by those who are left to mourn her loss.

MRS JOSEPH KLINT
Mrs Joseph Klint, passed away Friday, the 6th inst, at their farm home, 3 miles west of Atkinson. Deceased was aged 82 years, 4 months and 13 days.
Katrina Pokorny was born in Casayiche, Moravia (now Czechoslovakia) Nov 24,1845.
She was married to Joseph Klint at Caslaviche Feb 3,1874. They came to the United States Oct 15,1877,living in Colfax Co, Nebr, two years, Douglas Co, 2 years and Holt Co over 46 years.
To them were born two sons and two daughters, Conrad Klint of Atkinson; James Klint of Manville, Wyo; Mrs Mary Turner of Herrington,Kan; and Mrs Agnes Burda of Atkinson. There are 8 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Methodist Episcopal Church, Monday, April 9. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

DEATH ENDS ILLNESS OF JAS E KLOTZBACH
FUNERAL SERVICE HELD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT VAN HUMPHREY HOME IN ATKINSON
James E Klotzbach, father of Mrs Van Humphrey, passed away Tuesday at the home of his daughter in Atkinson after suffering the past year with complication of ailments that come with old age. Mr Klotzbach's condition has been serious for many weeks and his death was not unexpected by his wife and other relatives and friends who had taken care of him during his long illness.
Funeral services were held yesterday at Van Humphrey home, Atkinson, Members of Atkinson Lodge IOOF had charge of the service at the grave. Mr Klotzbach held his membership in the lodge at Rich Hill, Mo, and was a past grand.
James Emory Klotzbach was born at McGregor, Iowa, April 24,1857, and passed away Jan 27,1931 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 6 days.
As a young man he labored in a saw mill at Wood, Iowa for Elijah Gates, where he became acquainted with the younger daughter, Sarah M Gates, to whom he was united in marriage at Elkader, Iowa, Oct 3,1880. They lived at McGregor, Iowa one year, moving from there to a farm near Wood, Iowa, where they lived ? years. Form Wood they moved to Edgewood, Iowa, where Mr Klotzbach owned and operated at nursey for several years.
In 1910 Mr and Mrs Klotzbach moved to Atkinson and lived temporarily in the house now owned by Mrs Jacob Ohde while a new house, was being built for them. He also built and lived for a few years in the house now owned by S M Bailin.
Mr and Mrs Klotzbach moved to Rich Hill, Mo in 1913, where for a time Mr Klotzbach was in the furniture business. In 1929 they moved back to Atkinson and purchased the R D Cole residence and made their home here. Mr Klotzbach's health began to fail a year ago and they went to lived with their daughter Mrs Van Humphrey at whose home Mr Klotzbach passed away.
As a young man Mr Klotzbach became a member of First Congregational Church at Elkader, Iowa, transferring his membership to the Congregational church at Edgewood, Iowa, when he moved there. At Rich Hill, Mo, he afflilated with Presbyterian Church of which he was an elder for many years and also a member at the time of his death. Also he was a member of Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Rich Hill ,Mo in which he held the degree of past grand.
Surviving Mr Klotzbach are his wife, two daughters Mrs Van Humphrey of Atkinson and Mrs Elmer Landon of Foster, Mo. Two sons, Roy and Otto died in infancy. Also surviving him are one sister and three brothers, Ms J M Phillips of Philomath, Oregon; John of Banger, Mich, Leonard of Stratton, Colo and Sylvester of Neenah, Wis, besides his 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mrs Klotzbach's brother L P Gates of Edgewood, Iowa was here to attend the funeral, the other relatives from out of town being unable to come.

CHILDREN LEFT ALONE BY MOTHER'S DEATH
FIVE SMALL BOYS SURVIVE MRS HELEN KNOWLES, FORMER ATKINSON RESIDENT
Five small boys were left motherless and alone when Mrs Helen Knowles died of influenza and heart trouble at her home near Edmond, Kan last Friday. Mrs Knowles was the daughter of Mrs Anna Kelling, who lives 7 miles southwest of Atkinson. Her body was brought to Atkinson and funeral services were held here at Methodist Church Monday.
The boys, Samuel, 14, Ralph 10, Edward 8, Frank 6 and John 3 will come to O'Neill and will be cared for by their mother’s sister, Mrs Lloyd Whaley, who lives 8 miles ne of O’Neill. They were accompanied to Atkinson for the funeral by two neighbor women of Esmond,Kan. Mrs Albert Cameron and Mrs Hoyt Lull. The whereabouts of Guy Knowles, the father, is unknown.
Helen Elizabeth Wesley was born at Butte, Nebr March 11, 1899. Her childhood was spent in the vicinity of Atkinson and in 1910 she was a pupil in St Joseph’s hall, this city. On June 11,1915 she was married to Guy Knowles of North Platte, Nebr. To this union seven children were born, two of which died in infancy.
Besides the children, those who mourn her death are her mother, Mrs Anna Kelling, and four sisters, Mrs Lloyd Whaley of O’Neill and Gladys, Beulah and Olive Kelling of Atkinson.
The pallbearers included four former school mates, Joseph Disterhaupt Jr, Frank Disterhaupt, Edward Coufal and Charles Dvorak. The other two were Albert Cameon and Hoyt Lull of Esmond, Kan. Grace Wesley, present teacher in Dist 143 is a cousin of Mrs Knowles.
Among the out of town people who were here for the funeral were Chas Wesley and Family of Butte; Mr and Mrs Fred Randolph, Mr and Mrs Tim Harrington, Mr and Mrs Lloyd Whaley and Mr and Mrs Marion Whaley of O’Neill. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Whaley went to Esmond where they learned of the serious illness of Mrs Knowles but reached there after her death.

Elme Knutson, the child of Mr and Mrs Theodore Knutson from South Dakota, who are visiting Mrs Knutson's father, Mr Strong, north of Atkinson, died on Wednesday. The funeral was held from Lutheran Church yesterday. This is a sad visit for Mr and Mrs Knutson.

Funeral rites were held at Stuart yesterday for Albert Kozisek, pioneer resident of this part of Holt County , who died Tuesday. Mr Kozisek and his brother Frank,operated a gasoline service station in Stuart for many years.Masonic rites were in charge of Siloam Lodge, Stuart of which order the deceased was a member. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson, Thursday.

ALBERT KOZISEK, EARLY HOLT RESIDENT, IS LAID TO REST IN WOODLAWN
Albert Kozisek, Holt County pioneer and Stuart business man who died suddenly the morning of April 2 at his home in Stuart, was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson, Thursday, April 4.
Mr Kozisek was nearly 59 years of age. He had been in ill health since suffering a stroke three years ago, from which he never fully recovered. At that time he was engaged in the meat and grocery business in Stuart with his son, Edward. During the past winter he seemed to be gaining strength, never complaining and suffereing his ill health in patience.
Funeral services were held at Methodist Church, Stuart, which he and his family attended, on Thursday, April 4. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson. Siloam chapter of Masonic Lodge, Stuart, of which Mr Kozisek was a member, conducted the impressive Masonic ritual at the grave.
Albert Kozisek was born Sept 9,1876 in Greenbay, Wis. When four years old he emigrated with his parents in a covered wagon to David City, Nebr. after living there five years the family again undertook the wagon journey, this time to Stuart where they took a homestead 9 miles southeast of town. He resided in Holt County 50 years.
On Oct 20,1908 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Kaplan. To this union five children were born, Lillian of Kansas City, Mo; Edward, Violet, Florence and Vivian at home. After their marriage Mr and Mrs Kozisek moved to Waitsburg, Wash, remaining there a years and then moving back to the old homestead where Mr Kozisek took care of his aged mother who preceded him in death 13 years ago.
Ten years ago, the family moved to Stuart and Mr Kozisek and his brother Frank engaged in the oil business.
Besides his widow and children he leaves to mourn his death two sisters Mrs Josephine Bachman of Endicott, Wash and Marie of Colfax, Wash; an uncle Vencil Krysl of Stuart besides other relatives and a host of friends.
He was a devoted husband and loving father, a man whose life was clean and honorable. He believed in an honest, upright life and was a good friend who will be missed by everyone who knew him.

DEATH OF GUSTAV KRUEGER
Gustav Adolph Krueger was born in Schuenlanke, Germany June 20,1857 and died Nov 21,1919 at the age of 62 years 4 months and 21 days.
He came to America when 19 years of age. After taking out his naturalization papers he came west and was one of the earliest settlers in this part of Nebraska.
In 1880 he was united in marriage to Kathrine Margaret Sibbert, their marriage taking place at Minden, Iowa. Upon coming to Nebraska they took a homestead later buying land and improving a fine farm north of town where they resided for many years; moving to town about ten years ago.
Mr Krueger has been a sufferer from heart trouble for about four years to which he finally succumbed.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon from the Methodist Church, Rev Janssen of the Lutheran Church conducting the service. A large company of friends attended. The floral offerings were beautiful.
Those now mourning for the departed are the wife and eight children; Fred and Anna of St Charles, ND; Bertha Schrader of Chadron, Nebr. Emma Castille of Scuyler, Nebr. Martha McCarren of Sioux City,Iowa; Mary, John and Minnie of Atkinson and eight grandchildren, Two children preceded their father in death, Henry and Edward.
Interment was in Woodlawn Cem.

GEORGE KRUMM DIES AT STUART HOSPITAL
FUNERAL SERVICE HELD MONDAY AT M E CHURCH; LEAVES WIFE AND TWELVE CHILDREN
George Krumm, who the past 22 years lived ona farm 7 miles north and a mile east of Atkinson, passed away Friday, Jan 19, at Stuart Hospital. Mr Krumm entered the hospital Jan 7 and submitted to a operation for cancer on the 11th, after which his doctors held no hope of his recovery. He began to complain of ill health the latter part of November and his condition steadily became more serious.
Funeral Monday at Methodist Church so that there would be ample room to accommodate the large number of family and neighbors who attended the rites. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
George Krumm was born in Russia on June 29,1883. There he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 19 years he emigrated to America and made his home at Lincoln, Nebr. At Berkshire, Mich, on Sept 14,1905 he was united in marraige with Elizabeth Reinck. In 1912 Mr Krumm and his family moved to a farm north of Atkinson. He died Jan 19,1934 at the age of 50 years, 6 months and 21 days.
To mourn his untimely death he leaves his widow, twelve children, Mrs Katherine VanCleve of Atkinson; George and Emilia of Lincoln; Mrs Elizabeth Braun, Frieda, Helen, John, Edward, Ruth, Dorothy, Marian, Erwin of Atkinson. Two sons in law, one daughter in law, four grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, and a large number of other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

SON OF JAME KUBART IS VICTIM OF OBSTACLE IN LUNG
LIVES BUT ONE DAY
LITTLE FELLOW PASSES AWAY IN AN OMAHA HOSPITAL TUESDAY MORNING
Corlton James Kubart, the 13 months old son of Mr and Mrs Jas Kubart, died June 24,1924 at the Clarkson Hospital in Omaha from a bean lodged in his lungs.
Monday, while playing about at home, the baby picked up the bean and before anyone could prevent him put it into his mouth and it was drawn into the lung.
The parents immediately brought the chld to town where they were advised by their physician to take him to the hospital in Omaha with the hope that an operation might save his life.
Upon their arrival there the same night it was found impossible to remove the obstacle and without apparent suffering the little fellow passed away Tuesday. The father and mother returned with the remains Tuesday night.
There are four other children in the family, three sisters, Lorris, Reanic, Almeda and a brother Charles left with the parents to mourn the loss of the little one besides grandparents and a great grandmother.
Funeral services conducted by E L Peterson were held at Methodist Church Thursday with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The sympathy of the community is enlisted for the family in their sad loss.

SAM LANGE, 60 DIES AT HIS FARM HOME
Funeral Service Will Be Held at Methodist Church Here Saturday at 2 O’clock
Samuel E Lange, 60, who had engaged in farming in this community for the past 27 years, died at his farm home 17 miles northeast of Atkinson Tuesday evening, Feb 25 about 5:30 o’clock. He had been in ill health the past two years and had been bedfast since last October.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, at the home at 1:30 o’clock and at the Methodist Church in Atkinson at 2 o’clock. The Rev Glenn C Fry, local pastor, will officate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The pallbearers will be John Harley Jr, F M Keating, Dr N P McKee, Carton Davis, Frank Schnase, and Ernest Tesch.
Samuel Emil Lange, son of the late Frank and Matilda Lange, was born on a farm near Grafton, Fillmore County, Nebraska, on Feb 16,1881 and died at Atkinson on Feb 25,1941, at the age of 60 years and nine days.
His birthplace was a sod house on the homestead of his parents, where he lived until he was about ten years old. His parents then moved to a farm in Clay County, near Sutton, where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Miss Maty Mau on June 17,1909, at Sutton, and for a few years they lived on a farm in that vicinity and then moved to Holt County. The family has lived on various farms in this vicinity for the past 27 years, the present home being on the old Ira Smith place ten miles north and six and a half miles east of Atkinson. They have lived in that neighborhood the past twelve years.
Three sons and three daughters were born to this union, all of whom, with their mother survive to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. They are Ira, Vivian, LaVerne, (Mrs William Black), Wilbur, Aaron, and Lorene. All of them reside at the family home except Mrs Black, who lives at Verdel. She and her husband came Tuesday and will remain until after the funeral.
His death is also mourned by a brother, Clarence, and a sister, Mrs Vera Spangler, both of Sutton; one grandchild, William Verne Black, several nieces and nephews, and a great many friends and neighbors.

Larry Duane Lee, infant son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Lee, passed away immediately after his birth Sunday, Jan 7, at the home of Mrs Lee's parents, Mr and Mrs Herny Focken, north of Atkinson. Funeral services were conducted at the family home Monday. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs Lee was the former Lorraine Focken, Mr Lee is the son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Lee of Atkinson.

Mary, or as she was commonly called Molly Bishop, was the daughter of Joshua Bishop and his wife Margaret. She was born in Warren County, Ioiwa, July 18,1856. her mother died when she was a baby, only 3 years old, and she was left to the care of her father and sisters. Growing to womanhood in her home state, she was married in 1880 to Elias D Lee of that place. Four years later, in 1884, Mr and Mrs Lee moved from Iowa to Atkinson, where she lived until the end of her life came. She died on Sunday evening, June 18.
To her marriage with Mr Lee 2 children were born, Myrtle who died when a baby, and Eva, who with her father lives to mourn that mother is no more. Besides these she leaves 2 sisters, Mrs Huldah Foust of Summeset, Iowa and Mrs Amanda Bishop of Bakersfield, California.
Mrs Lee was a Christian lady having united with the Christian Church in her girlhood. After coming to Atkinson she united with the Presbyterian church, of which she has been a consistant member.
Her health has been poor for several years. About 3 months ago she was taken ill and continually grew worse, until the end came. The cause of her death was heart failure.
In her the community has lost a good neighbor, the church a worthy member and the home a loving wife and mother.
The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Wednesday morning and the remains laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.

HENRY LESEMANN DIES SUDDENLY OF APOPLEXY
Henry Lesemann, aged 56 years, a resident of Holt County and Atkinson for the past 17 years, passed away at his home in this city Friday, the 19th inst, following a stroke of apoplexy.
Henry Lesemann was born Oct 3,1860 near Blomberg, Germany and died at his home in Atkinson, Nov 19,1926, aged 56 years, 1 month and 16 days.
He came to America in 1885. On Sept 7,1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Eva Roth in Omaha, Nebr. To this union 3 children were born, 2 daughters and 1 son. In 1893 he moved to Lincoln and in 1909 to Holt County, settling on a farm near Emmet. After his retirement from the farm in 1921 he moved to Atkinson.
He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, two daughters, Mrs Tena Winkler of Atkinson, Mrs Minnie Taylor of Lincoln, one son, WIlliam of Billings, Mont, who was unable to be present on account of sickness; 6 grandchildren, two brothers and one sister in Germany.
Funeral services were held from St John's Lutheran Church, Sunday, Nov 21.

PIONEER RANCH WOMAN PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY
DEATH TAKES MRS WILLIAM LONG, RESIDENT OF HOLT OVER HALF CENTURY
LARGE FAMILY MOURNS
8 CHILDREN, 41 GRANDCHILDREN, 10 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN SURVIVE HER
Mrs William M Long, one of this community's earliest pioneer women passed away suddenly at her home southwest of Atkinson Monday, Feb 1, at the age of 69 years. Mrs Long, although having suffered ill health for some time, was seriously ill only a few days before her death, which was caused by a heart ailment.
Mrs Long and her husband came to Holt Co in 1884, just after they were married, and as a young couple they settled on a farm one mile east and one mile south of Amelia. They lived there until 1900 and since that time have made their home in the Green Valley community. Besides her husband, Mrs Long leaves a large family to mourn her death. There are 8 children, 41 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. 4 of her 12 children preceded her in death, however, hers in the first death in the family since 1900.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Methodist Church and burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Della Perry was born on Dec 28,1867 at Fort Dodge, Iowa, and passed peacefully away at her home in Green Valley, southwest of Atkinson on Feb 1,1937, aged 69 years, 1 month 4 days.
In March 1884 she was united in holy matrimony to William M Long of Quorra, Iowa, and one month afterward this young couple came to Holt Co where they made their home.
To this union 12 children were born, four of whom preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her death her sorrowing husband, and the surviving 8 children, Mrs Doris Neibaur of Martin, SD; William Earl of Neligh; Mrs Bertha Ellen Brown of San Bernardino, Calif; Mrs Ida Pearl Wagner of Myton, Utah; Harry of Belle Fourche, SD; Mrs Velma Niemann of Newport; Elmer and Ray of Atkinson. All of the children except Mrs Brown, Mrs Wagner and Harry were here for the funeral services.
She is also survived by brothers Abe Perry of Plummer, Minn and Will Perry of Chicago, Ill. 41 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren also mourn her death.
She united with Evangelical church of Green Valley and automatically became a member of the Methodist Church, when the transfer was effected.
She was a faithful wife and mother and good neighbor who will be greatly missed.

Anna Luben, daughter of Mr Wm Luben of Emmet, passed away Friday Sept 5 at Nebr Institution for Feeble Minded, Beatrice, Nebr. Miss Luben, aged 48, had been cared for at the institution the past 23 years, having suffered a fracture of the spine that made her an invalid when she was a baby about a year old. The cause of her death was pulmonary tuberculosis.
Funeral services were conducted at Luben home in Emmet Monday, and St John's Lutheran Church in Atkinson, burial was made in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson.
Anna Luben was born at Appleton, Wis, Nov 30,1881 and at her death was aged 48 years, 11 months and 3 days. Her mother passed away Feb 8,1891 at Clearwater when Anna was a child. For 15 years she was tenderly cared for by her step mother, Mrs Bertha Luben, who, together with Anna's father and 3 brothers and sister, mourn her death. The brothers are William, Louis and Eugene of Emmet. The sister is Mrs Emma Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.

EUGENE LUBEN IS FOUND DEAD NEAR HIS HOME
BELIEVE EMMET FARMER BROKE NECK IN FALL FROM HIS HORSE
DEATH INSTANTANEOUS
BODY DISCOVERED EARLY SATURDAY MORNING BY WIDOW AFTER AN ALL NIGHT SEARCH
Eugene Luben, 38, well known farmer living south of Emmet was found with a broken neck on the premises near his home shortly after daybreak Saturday by his widow, who had searched the place for him all night long during a heavy rain storm.
It is thought that Mr Luben suffered the injury, which the doctors said caused instant death, in a fall from his horse. He left the house Friday evening on horseback to look after his cattle and was not again seen alive. His body was found not far from the barn on his farm. He still held his whip in his hand and his horse was not far away.
Funeral services were held Monday,with a short service at the home followed by rites at St John's Lutheran Church in Atkinson. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson.
Eugene Henry Luben, the youngest son of Mr and Mrs William Luben of Emmet, was born at Elgin July 5,1896 and died at his home south of Emmet on May 10,1935, aged 38 years 10 months and 8 days.
He was married to Miss Nora Barnes at Neligh on Jan 8,1918. Their home was blessed with four children, Eugenia, Dorothy, Esther, Robert, who with their mother survive him. He also leaves to mourn his early death, his father and mother, two brothers, William and Lewis of Emmet and one sister, Emma of Los Angeles, Calif.
He had lived on the farm two miles south of Emmet since he was five years old and his neighbors and friends will remember him as an industrious, honorable man, and will mourn the loss of a friend. He was a kind and loving husband and father and was ever thoughtful of the comfort of his father and invalid mother.

MISS ALMA LYMAN DIES TUESDAY IN SANITARIUM IN NATIONAL CITY, CALIFORNIA
A telegram to relatives here Tuesday brought word of the death of Alma A Lyman, which occurred that day, June 23, at a sanitarium in National City, California. Miss Lyman went from Atkinson to Los Angeles two years ago this June, where she spent a few months visiting friends, going from there to National City, where she has since made her home with her sister, Mrs D S Mytinger.
During the first year there Miss Lyman was operated upon for sinus trouble, which was the begining of the illness that ultimately caused her death.
She had made her home in Atkinson for almost 20 years, where she was employed in the office of The Atkinson Graphic during the periods of ownership of Mende Akin, Williams Bros, A H York, and for eight years with the present owner.
She was a member of Rebecca and Royal Highlander Lodges.
Quiet and reserved by nature she nevertheless made many warm friends to whom she was in turn a sincere and faithful friend. She was capable and dependable in her work and always ladylike and dignified in manner. She held high ideals of life and lived up to them. She was esteemed by all who knew her.
Alma Lyman was born in Tabor, Iowa, Aug 26,1877. A twin daughter of Monroe and Isabel Lyman. She is survived by one sister Mrs Chas H Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, two half sisters Mrs Clara Mytinger of National City, Cal, Mrs Isabel M Kelly of Atkinson, one half brother, Frank Todd of Two Buttes, Colorado.
The remains were reduced at the National City crematory and will be held for burial until decision of place is made.

Services and interment of the incinerated remains of Alma ALyman, whose death occurred June the 23rd in California will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Atkinson, Tuesday evening, July 14.

NANCY LYMAN IS LAID TO REST IN WOODLAWN
FUNERAL SERVICE FOR AGED ATKINSON RESIDENT HELD SUNDAY AT METHODIST CHURCH
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church in Atkinson last Sunday afternoon for Mrs Nancy Louica Lyman, who passed away at her home here Feb 22, at the age of nearly 93 years. Mrs Lyman resided here almost a half century. burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. John Horace Lyman, a step son of Portland, Oregon, was the only relative who was able to be here for the funeral.
Nancy Louica Phillips was born in SPringwater, Linvingston Co, NY May 18,1841 and passed from this life Feb 22,1934 at Atkinson, aged 92 years, 9 month and 4 days. She was the youngest of 6 children born to David and Charlotte Phillips.
In 1855 at the age of 14 years she moved with her father’s family to Pataskala, Licking Co, Ohio, living there 2 years and in 1857 moved to Iowa where she lived 28 years. After her education was completed she taught school for many years.
On Oct 3,1878 she became the bride of John Clark Lyman. She lovingly mothered his 3 sons as her own was cared for when he came to bless their union in 1882. Homer G Lyman, her only child, died inLubbuck, Texas, April 28,1912. Mr and Mrs Lyman and their family moved to Holt County in 1885 and settled on a homestead 7 miles south of Atkinson where they lived for 17 years.
They moved into Atkinson in 1802, where for years her husband, known as Uncle John, kept a feed store and city scales until his death Sept 20,1918.
Mrs Lyman, the youngest of her family, was their Good Angel, caring for all of them but one during their last days on earth. She had the constant loving care of her mother, who passed away at the age of 96 years in 1902. The last few years of her sister’s life was spent in her home and care. Mrs Moulton was 94 years old, and Mrs Lyman just 10 years younger.
Mrs Lyman was a grand old lady, keen of mind, pleasant and cheerful and kind in disposition- loved and honored by her neighbors and friends, both old and young. During her last years, when left alone, the loving care she had bestowed on her dear ones as they needed her one by one, was given to her beautiful flowers in her old fashioned garden, which she tended year after year, planting her spring flowers and planting bulbs each fall for the next year’s blooming.
Such was her love and faith in nature and all God’s house, from a child to ripe old age, always trying to live a Christian life. She was a member of the Rebecca lodge and Methodist Church.
She is survived by two stepsons, John Horace Lyman of Portland,Oregon; and Isaac Munson Lyman of Salmon Arm, BC; two grandchildren, Catherine Nancy Lyman Brown and Edward E Lyman, 3 great grandchildren, Nancy Louica Lyman Hodges, Claudia Elizabeth Brown, Rachel Yvonnie Lyman, besides Mrs Elizabeth L Hodges, a daughter in law, all of Porterville, Cal; also Alvin G Phillips, a nephew of Red Oak, Iowa.
