ALAMEADE MARSHALL
Death again calls and this time takes another of our young people of the city.
Alameade Lenore Marshall after a three week sickness which started with an attack of la grippe culminated in tubercular meningitis. Death occurring early Saturday, Feb 10. She was born in Atkinson, March 21,1900, thus she would have been 17 years of age on the following month.
Alameade was the second daughter of Mr Everett and Virginia Alice Marshall. Her mother had preceded her in death some 8 years ago. A younger brother had also died some years since. Those of the immediate family remaining who mourn her early departure are her father and 2 sisters, Veva of Kearney and Izetta of Neligh.
Alameade has four some time been making her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Dell Akin. She has been attending the high school and was a member of freshman class. she was a young woman of many attractive qualities and a personality that won her a host of friends among the young people of the school and community.
It is with much pleasure and satisfaction that we recount her brief Christian experience. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, Sabbath school and Christian endeavor Society. At the Christmas Communion of the closing year the church observed as what is now know as White Christmas, at which time she came forward and asked to be received into the membership of the church, and then and there made her public confession of the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. Little we all realized at that service how short the time and brief the opportunity of her labor in the cause of her Lord.
We are thankful that God does not measure life by years lived, but rather in the purpose and will of men and women to hear His call and to serve him.
She heard with gladness God's invitation "Remember, now they Creator, in the days of thy youth." and we hope and trust that she has entered into God's blessed reward.
The funeral service was conducted from the Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Interment was made in Atkinson Cemetery.
Feb 16,1917 Atkinson Graphic
Mrs Huxford of Neligh and adopted daughter, Miss Izetta Marshall Huxford were here to attend the funeral of the latter's sister, Alameade Marshall.

MRS ALFRED L MILLER
The news of the death of Mrs A W Miller on Wednesday May 9,1917 came with an almost overwhelming shock to her family and friends. She having gone the Monday before accompanied by her sister-in-law Minnie B Miller to Omaha where an operation for gall stones was performed at St Catherine's hospital.
On Tuesday she rallied from the operation of the same day and seemed to make great improvements until the following day at noon. Shortly afterward a change for the worse was noticeable and she gradually grew weaker until 8:45 when she passed quietly away.
Ella Alworth Miller was born at La Crescent, Minn April 27,1866 being 51 years 12 days of age at her death. She came with her parents to Atkinson in 1877 and residing one mile west of town until her marriage to A W Miller at Council Bluffs, Sept 20,1884, since which time her home has been in Atkinson. Thus almost her whole life has been spent here where her friends are numbered only by her acquaintances. Here her ten children who survive her were born and 8 of them remain in the home with their father. They are Arthur, Harry, Helen, Harriett, Dorothy, Charlotte, Aaron and Donald. Lewis whose home is at Waterbury, Nebr, and Robert who resides in Omaha accompanied by their families were in attendance at the funeral which was held Saturday May the 12th at St Joseph Church followed by interment in the catholic cemetery.
Harry who had recently enlisted in the U S Navy was in Chicago, was reached by telegram and arrived Friday evening as did Mrs Miller's sister Mrs Mary Crowley of Chicago, Mrs Julia Preston of Fort Collins, Colorado and brother Martin W Alworth of Mankato, Minn. Another sister Mrs Anna Bauman of Stafford, Nebr, came on the earlier train the same evening. A sister Mrs Lizzie Mullen of Manderson, Wyo and two brothers Samuel W of Toole, Utah and Robert H of Wabuska, Nev were unable to be present. Mrs Miller is survived by 5 grandchildren.
Being of a cheerful amiable and loveable disposition, the happiness for the home centered in her and she will be held in loving memory in the hearts of her dear ones. Not only were her own attracted by the sweetness of her life, but many friends with whom she was associated will long remember her happy, hopeful spirit and be inspired thereby to better living.
She was a faithful member of Christian Mothers Society of her church. The Royal Neighbors and the Women's Relief Corps have lost a loyal and helpful worker.

Floyd Parshall was born in Boyd County, Nebr, Feb 26,1893, moved with his parents to Stuart in 1897 and later to the Parshall home 23 miles northeast of Atkinson, where he resided until his death. Since the age of 10 years he has been a sufferer of epilepsy which took its hold upon him after a hard spell of sickness and which finally ended his earthly career on Dec 7,1917.Floyd was 24 years 9 months and 9 days old when relieved of his suffering.
While he was much afflicted, he never complained of his griefs, but seemed to be contented with his lot. Having made peach with God and being much in prayer we feel assured that he was ready for the call. He leaves father, mother, two brothers , to mourn his departure.
The funeral was held from the home Sunday, Interment was made at Phoenix Cemetery.

Sept 28,1917 Atkinson Graphic
Mrs Webber came Sunday to be at the bedside of her sister Mrs Prouty, who is so seriously ill at Paddock. The death of the youngest child, a boy 4 years old occurred Friday at the hospital in Spencer. This is doubly sad as the mother is so very sick and one of the other boys has been dangerously sick for several days but at last report was better and will recover. Mr Prouty was also sick but did not get so bad. All the family have had same complaint but the oldest boy who is at the home of his uncle Niles Hendricks.

Putnam, Laura C Hale
(born May 24,1850)
June 8,1917 Atkinson Graphic
MRS H L PUTNAM
Laura C Hale was born in Oconomowoc, Wis, May 24,1851 and died at her home 1119 Georgia Ave, Omaha, June 2,1917 at the age of 56 years.
Upon June 15,1870 she was married to Mr Herbert L Putnam in Wis to which holy union was added 7 children, 3 of whom have preceded the deceased to the Beyond.
She came to Atkinson in 1884 with her parents, the Rev and Mrs DeLoss Hale. The family made their residence here until 1895. During this time Rev Hale was a generous and good man, having left many records of his favorable standing in the community, chief among which was the first Methodist Church, to which he was a large contributor. The Rev Hale died in 1888 and was followed in 1890 by his wife. Both Mr and Mrs Hale are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery upon the same lot where the same stone marks the resting place of the 3 young children beside whom Mrs Putnam was laid tenderly to rest.
She was a member of Methodist Episcopal Church, the Degree of honor and the Rebecca Lodge. Her last thought was in keeping with her life work and was disclosed in the message she sent to her old friends. "Give my love to all my old friends".
Those of the family who lived to survive a devoted mother and loyal wife are Doctors ED and FT of Sioux Falls, SD, Harry of Redwood, California, Mrs Grace D Marsh of Omaha and her husband H L L Putnam of Omaha.
The funeral service was held at her home in Omaha, only a prayer service being held at the home of Mrs Seth Woods, A great many of her old neighbors and friends were privileged to attend the burial.

Robinson, James Henry
July 4,1901 Atkinson Plain Dealer
James Henry Robinson, only son of Mr and Mrs R S Robinson of Atkinson, was born in Sac County, Iowa, April 21,1880. He died June 13,1901. He was a student of Sac City Institute for more than 3 years. While a student there and in the public schools as well, he was obedient, industrious, and applied himself so faithfully to the discharge of all his duties. That he rapidly developed his natural ability which was more than ordinary. He removed with the family to Atkinson in March of last year, and engaged with his father in the cattle business. In the early morning of the 13th of June, while in the discharge of duty, and faithfully caring for the dumb brutes under his protection he was struck by lightning. In his death the community lost a valuable citizen, the family a noble son and brother and the cause of Christianity a consistent exemplar of its teachings. When 12 years of age, he was converted and united with Silver Creek Congregational Church. When he removed to Sac City, he transferred his membership to the Baptist Church, of which society he was a member at the time of his death. His whole life was characterized by faithfulness. He was a manly boy and his young manhood gave promise of great usefulness. After simple religious services conducted by Rev Hydin and Julian, the family accompanied the remains to the old home in Iowa, where they were laid away in the Cook Center cemtery, close by the old home. The dead boyd of the good boy and faithful son and promising young man was put under the sod, but the Spirit of the noble life returned to the Father who gave it. The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends, both in Iowa and Nebraska who knew the son and brother and loved him because of his many noble traits and manly character.

DEATH OF PIONEER CITIZEN
Hiram S Shutts, one of Atkinson's old time citizens, died on Tuesday at his home in this city.
Hiram S Shutts, was born in Ellenburg, NY, April 12,1833 thus attaining the ripe age of 83 years.
He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah E Fralick, Sept 10,1861 at Lyons, Iowa. After their marriage they returned to the state of New York where they lived for several years. They came to Atkinson in 1887, where they have continued to reside.
Mr Shutts was of Holland descent, his grandfather having moved to this country as a Lutheran Minister. Mr Shutts was one of 14 children and the last survivor of his generation like the patriarchs of old he has lived to a good old age and now sleeps with his fathers. While he was not a formal member of the church he was a believer, dying with a prayer upon his lips out "O Lord Jesus come and take me".
He leaves to mourn his departure, his life companion and many old time friends who will miss his familiar face.
Funeral services were held from the home on Wednesday. Interment was made in Woodlawn Cemetery.

ANSWERS FINAL ROLL CALL
John Skirving, an old and highly esteemed resident of Holt Co died at his home in O'Neill Monday, the 19th inst.
The funeral took place Wednesday in charge of Masonic Order.
Deceased was likewise a veteran of the civil war, serving with an Iowa Regiment with which he enlisted in the early breaking out of the war.
For a great many years he had been identified with the pubic interest and the development of Holt County. He filled the office of Clerk of the District Court for 12 years and so faithfully and so well that no one successfully contested his right to possession through an unusually long tenure of office.
Of him his acquaintances say "he was a friend to every one and everybody loved him"
Time had changed the ringlets of boyhood to curls of snowy white and for those who knew his every walk and way an outward emblem of the purity of the soul within.
Of his immediate family 1 son and 2 daughters survive.

DEATH OF DR CASS SMITH
The report of the death of Dr Cass Smith at Walthill came to friends of the deceased here Wednesday. Dr Smith was a veterinan of the old school, who for many years practiced his profession in numerous towns along the Elkhorn Valley. He frequently visited Atkinson where he had something of a practice and near where until about a year ago a son resided and to whom he made frequent visits. He spent several months here last summer and fall. Grown somewhat eccentric in his old age he came and went without formality of adieu. Was infallible in his profession and looked not too kindly upon the laws "Protection" of the college made practitioners.
He will be remembered by many old homesteaders who has had occasion to be thankful for his presence at a critical time when a valuable horse or cow brute was saved by the old veterinary.

DEATH OF H J STANSBERRY
Henry J Stansberry was born at Modale, Iowa, March 4,1880 and died Saturday, July 28,1917 in Norfolk.
He came to Nebraska in early manhood, perhaps at the age of 16 or 17 years.
June 9,1909 he was married to Miss Emma Sjoland and to this union was born five children. In their earlier married life Mr and Mrs Stansberry lived upon a farm in the Phoenix neighborhood. Five years ago they came to Atkinson, which has been their home since. For the past three years he has filled the position of chief of police and water commissioner for the city and a more faithful officer and public servant would be hard to find. He has not been well for sometime and upon the 5th of July decided to go to a hospital for relief. At Norfolk there was an operation for appendicitis which was pronounced to be a very serious case. All that medical science could do was at hand, but the operation was put off too long. The end came Saturday morning at 1 o'clock.
Mr Stansberry leaves a devoted wife and four children. One baby, a girl, having died in infancy. There survives him a father, W W Stansberry of Council Bluffs, Iowa, his grandfather Henry Stansberry of Marshalltown, Iowa, a brother William Stansberry of Canada, two cousins, Mrs Nelson H Ames and Mr Edwin West of Atkinson.
In his death the family has lost a devoted husband and father, the city a faithful and efficient officer and the community mourn an honest and accommodating neighbor. Perhaps the saddest feature of his untimely departure was the fact that he leaves his wife sick in her bed with an infant but a week old.
The funeral service was held in the Methodist Church Sunday, July 29, attended by a large number of friends. The Masonic order conducted the service. The Atkinson Fire Department attended the service in uniform. Mr Stansberry was a member in good and regular standing in the IOOF of Atkinson.
He was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery by those he had served so faithfully. There to wait for the voice that will bring forth every man according as his works shall be.

Pearl Elizabeth, daughter of Mr and Mrs L H Tilton was born at Filley, Nebraska, Nov 26,1906 and passed out of this life at the Stuart Hospital Thursday, Dec 13,1923 at the age of 17 years 18 days.

Pearl united with the Christian Church of Filley at 12 years of age and lived a beautiful Christian life, a girl that was much beloved by all that knew her. She remained conscious to the last moment and after bidding her dear ones goodbye she asked that prayer be offered and her spirit took its flight to be with her Savior in whom she had such implicit faith. She leaves to mourn her untimely death her mother and father, 3 brothers Cloyd, Mearl, Clarence, 3 sisters Ruth, Marie and Thelma, and her grandparents, Mr and Mrs J T Clark, and a large company of friends. FRANK B WITHERS
Frank B Withers, son of Robert and Margaret Withers, was born in Licking Co, Homer, Ohio, June 15,1846. He was one of a family of 7 children all having previously died except one half brother, W A Austin.
When a very young boy, he came with his parents to Iowa, and settled in Washington County. Later they moved to Springville where they lived for several years. The family next moved to what is now known as the Old Leroy Lillie farm and later purchased a farm 1 1/2 miles north of Marion.
A few years later the father died leaving to the son Frank the responsibility of the farm and the home at which time he finished his education in the country school.
In the year 1870 he was united in marriage to Maggie Delancy at her parents' home near Marion. He then took his bride to his home where to this union was born two sons, Charles D and George S.
Most of Mr Withers' married life was spent at this home. In the year 1899 he purchased a ranch near Inez, Nebr, which was his home at the time of his death. The death of his wife had occurred 6 years previous.
3 weeks ago Mr Withers left his home for Marion to make one of the frequent visits which he had always looked forward to with a great deal of joy, but this visit, was soon marred by his unexpected illness at the home of his brother, W A Austin. After 2 weeks of suffering his death occurred on Tuesday, Jan 23,1917.
Mr Withers leaves of his kindred 1 half brother W A Austin of Marion, 2 sons Charles D and George S of Inez, Nebr and 4 grandchildren.
The funeral services were held at the farm home of W A Austin near Marion, Jan 26 and interment was made at Prairie Chapel near Marion where Mrs Withers was buried 6 years ago.
