THE CITY OF YORK, NEBRASKA
WHERE "CORN IS KING"

with Illustrations of Its Business Blocks, Residences and Prominent Personages.
Callen & Jones, Publishers
York, Neb., Democrat Print: 1888

This book, also titled "Our Illustrated York, Nebraska" allows the readers to take a step back in time and view the city of York in 1888 - in the midst of a spectacular growing surge.

The text covers the first twenty years of the city of York, beginning with the 1868 pre-emption claims and a single framed shanty standing in what would eventually become downtown York. By 1888, when the book was printed, the city of York was a self-proclaimed "Banner City" of 6,000 souls.

Index of names appearing in the book:   A through K  |  L through Z

Reprints of this 1888 book are available from the York County Historical Association.
