We, the volunteers of the NEGenWeb Project, will strive to act in a reponsible manner using good manners and common sense in all our dealings with the public and with other volunteers within the NEGenWeb and USGenWeb projects.

Please refer to the description of an EagleLark, a term that describes our volunteers. Although this statement was written a little 'tongue-in-cheek', it states some of the basic principles and beliefs that the volunteers in the NEGenWeb Project try to maintain in all our volunteer work with the Project, whether it is in dealing with the public or with other USGenWeb Project or NEGenWeb Project volunteers. We will follow all USGenWeb Project and NEGenWeb Project guidelines to the best of our ability, and with the good manners and common sense that our ancestors passed along to us. We are becoming well-known for our friendliness and helpfulness, and wish to make sure that this continues in every aspect. As volunteers for the USGenWeb Project and the NEGenWeb Project, we pledge ourselves to that ideal.

All USGenWeb Project Guidelines and Bylaws must be followed in order for a county site to be included on the NEGenWeb Project County Selection page. Those requirements include subscribing to your state mailing list, providing and regularly updating a query page, providing a list of available resources and lookups, having the USGenWeb Project logo prominently displayed on the main county page, and providing a link to your state page. The NEGenWeb Project county coordinators voted to have one requirement for our coordinators beyond the USGenWeb Project requirements: Each coordinator should check in on our weekly roll call at least once a month, to let us know how they're doing. If a coordinator cannot be contacted after that time, then their site will be taken on by someone else, so that the page will be updated regularly, and taken care of.

 Additional information that you may want to provide

Many of our county sites are placing additional documents and research helps online. These might include cemetery lists, marriages indexes, county histories, newspaper articles, etc. In order to post this type of document, you must follow the USGenWeb Project copyright and lookup policy guidelines. Posting published resources and offering lookups in such publications should only be done if you or your volunteers have received written permission to do so from the publication's author or publisher, or if the publication is in the public domain.

A link to the USGenWeb Project main page is HIGHLY recommended. The USGenWeb Project logo is a required element from the national organization and should be prominently displayed on your main county page. You may make it a 'clickable' (active) link. In December 1998, NEGenWeb Project CC's looked at, discussed, and concluded that, though a courtesy, it certainly is not necessary to request permission to link to other NEGenWeb Project sites. Plus, though it seems not to be legally necessary to request permission to link to any other site outside of our Project , the NEGenWeb Project Committee feels it is still a good Public Relations item, as well as a courtesy to do so.
