Philo Walbridge was born in Cedar county, Iowa, January 15, 1846, and died at his home in Crab Orchard, Wednesday, August 11, 1920, aged 74 years, 6 months and 26 days. The summons came at 11 o'clock in the night, following an illness of seven weeks duration, a part of which time he suffered intensely. Mr. Walbridge was united in marriage with Eliza KcKee, september 1, 1868, at Mechanicsville, Iowa. Six years later they moved to Fremont county, Iowa, and resided there until the spring of 1879, when they came to Johnson county, Nebraska. Ten children were born to this union, six of them dying in early childhood. The surviving four are Mrs. H. A. Welsch (Faith), of Crab Orchard, Mrs. M. E. Walker (Grace) of Sansarc, South Dakota, Mrs. E. L. Koller (Mamie) of near Crab Orchard, and Mrs. T. W. Powell (Belle) of Harrison, Nebraska. These daughters and the aged wife mourn the loss of an affectionate and indulgent father and a loving and faithful companion. Mr. Walbridge was a member of the Methodist church, having become a member in early manhood. He was also a charter member of Crab Orchard lodge of the A.O.U.W. He resided in Crab Orchard 34 years and was intimately known to old and young. His daily life was an open book, for he was a man who "lived in the front room of the house," and walked fearlessly before his fellow man.
He leaves, besides the relatives already mentioned, one brother, N. B. Walbridge, of Crab Orchard, and a niece, Mrs. Addie Dixon, of Nebraska City.
Funeral services will be held this (Friday) morning at 10:30, at the family home, and will be conducted by Rev. C. E. Austin of Brownville, Rev. J. E. Goins of this city assisting. Interment will be in Crab Orchard cemetery. The two daughters who live far from here, Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Powell, are not expected at the funeral as both were here for an extensive stay during their father's illness. Mrs. Walbridge's sister, Mrs. Kimber of Wray, Colorado, who came two weeks ago, is still here.
