Durand Suzaner@aol.com Hardin, Charles Charles Hardin, eldest son of William Hardin, generally know to many about Ashland as "Dad" Hardin, died in a hospital in Lincoln, April 11, following an illness of about a year of nervous prostration and the remains were brought to Ashland Monday, and interred in the Ashland cemetery. Charles Hardin was born in Pennsylvania, October 17, 1853 and was at the time of his death aged 60 years, 5 months, 17 days. When a boy, Mr. Hardin learned the printing trade, which he followed all his life and was known as an "Old Time Printer." He spent most of his life in the northwest. He became ill and returned to Lincoln about a year ago, and for several months made his home with his sister, Mrs. Upton, until delcing health compelled him to go to a hospital where he passed away on the above date. The deceased made his home with his parents in Ashland for a time, but the past 40 years has been away most of the time. Wm. Hardin, was well known in this section, and was for years county surveyor of Saunders county, and assisted in surveying many of the western counties of the state. His last work here, was the re-surveying the Ashland Cemetery. He died about a year ago and was also interred here. Submitted by Peggy S. Durand Suzaner@aol.com Hardin, George W. George W. Hardin died at his home in Buffalo, Mo, Friday, June 31, of heart trouble. The body was brought overland to Ashland for burial and the committal service was held Monday afternoon, June 24. The body was accompanied by Mrs. Hardin and a daughter from Buffalo, and also by a sister, Mrs. Miller of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Another daughter and her family from Albion, Nebr., met them here and Mrs. Fern Upton, of Lincoln, a sister of the deceased and her daughter, Miss Vera Upton of Lincoln were also present. Rev. J. M. Dickey was in charge of the service. A group of old Ashland friends Mrs. J. H. Oliver, Mrs. M. E. Ballou, Mrs. May Wiggenhorn and Dr. Kirkpatrick attended the service. Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Ballou were schoolmated of Mr. Hardin as was Mrs. A. Smith, G. L. Scott and the late H. A. Wiggenhorn. The Hardins were residents of Ashland in early days and are remembered by many who were friends of the family in former times. "Dad" Hardin as the father of the deceased was known, was a government surveyor and he assisted by his son, George, surveyed and laid out the plot for the Ashland Cemetery. Submitted by Peggy S. Durand Suzaner@aol.com Hardin, Milo B. At Pender, on Saturday, Nov. 6, 1926, Milo B. Hardin passed away after a brief illness. Mr. Hardin was born at Windham, Johnson county, Iowa, December 10, 1863. His boyhood days were spent in Ashland. He has resided in Pender for fifteen years. He leaves a wife, two sons, Harold and Leonard, two grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Tom Upton, of Lincoln, a brother, Mr. George Hardin of Bloomfield, to keep him in loving remembrance. Submitted by Peggy S. Durand Suzaner@aol.com Hardin, William H. William H. Hardin for many years a resident of Ashland died at the home of his son at Falls City Tuesday. The remains will be interred in the Ashland cemetery today, Thursday. Mr. Hardin was for many years a familiar figure about Ashland and Saunders county being county surveyor for many years. He was also government surveyor and assisted in surveying several counties in the western part of the state. Mr. Hardin came to Nebraska about 1866 or 67. He was a most highly respected citizen. DEATH RECORD The remains of William Hardin, who was buried in the Ashland cemetery last Thursday, was one of the active pioneers of the state of Nebraska, coming to the state in the year 1868. For many years he was the surveyor of Saunders county, and assisted in the government survey of the greater part of the west part of the state. Mr. Hardin is remembered by many of the older citizens of Ashland as a man of fine character. The deceased was born in Morrix X Roads, Fayette county, Penn., May 13, 1826, on the farm that his grandfather received from King George of England in 1760. He received his education in Madison College, Penn. And in 1855 moved to Iowa City, Iowa, thence in 1868 to Nebraska, and the following year to Ashland, where for almost 30 years the family resided. Mrs. Hardin passed away October, 1904. Since this time the deceased has made his home with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by three children, M. B. Hardin of Pender, g. W. of Ulysses, and Mrs. S. E. Upton of Lincoln. He died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Fern Buford, Falls City March 24, aged 86 years, 10 months, and 11 days. Submitted by Peggy S. Durand Suzaner@aol.com Mrs.William Hardin Died HARDIN - At her home in Ashland, on Friday afternoon, October 5th, 1894, Ms. Wm. Hardin, aged 65 years, 1 months, and 19 days. Mrs. Hardin was an old resident of this city, having lived here for twenty-four years. Her husband has been one of our prominent citizens, having held the office of county surveyor for a number of terms. Mrs. Hardin was a faithful Christian, a charter member of the Congregational church in this place. Her married live covered a period of forty-five years. Her last illness began in July when she was taken with a violent attack of neuralgia in the stomach. Other complications set in and she gradually grew worse till death came to her relief and ended her sufferings. The funeral was held at the Congregational church Sunday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Wilson Denny, conducting the services. In a very feeling and touching manner the pastor referred to the beautiful Christian spirit of the deceased, pointing to her life as a practical exemplification of the maximums of Christianity. A large number of the neighbors and friends who had known Mrs. Hardin for many years, many of whom had received her kindly ministries in times of sickness were present. The remains were laid at rest in the Ashland cemetery. |
