Thanks to several people who supplied books about Buffalo County, we've been able to make many of them available on-line. We are particularly grateful to Pam Rietsch for the books she has supplied through the Mardos Memorial Library. Others may be available through inter-library loan from the Kearney City Library or the University of Nebraska-Kearney Library. Others are of limited availability, but you may request look-ups by the volunteer listed. COUNTY WIDE

See LINKS for on-line help. please contact Mona Research Tip #1 If you cannot find information in the county you THINK your ancestor was in, look over the border into the next county, or to the parent county. In days when travel was not so convenient, most people went to the nearest town to buy supplies, sell their grain, etc., and it may have been in a different county than where their courthouse records were kept. Buffalo County Main page has links to the neighboring counties. Research Tip #2: Family information often included the name of the nearest BIG town, as "Grandpa Jones came from Kearney, Nebraska." when he actually lived near, and was buried in, Ravenna. |
