Katerina Christine (Peters) Zimbelman, 1857-1943
Mrs. Zimbelman Passed Away February 10th – After a brief illness covering a period of two weeks, Grandma Zimbelman passed to her eternal reward Feb. 10, 1943 at the home of her son, Jacob Zimbelman, where she was taken after being stricken ill at her home. Katerina Christine Peters was born in Russia, Jan. 25, 1857 and at the time of her death was 86 years, 16 days of age. She lived in Russia during her girlhood and early womanhood and there attended school with the Bible as the chief textbook. She was married to Mike Zimbelman in Russia in 1883 and to this union were born eleven children., In that same year they emigrated to America and settled near Sutton, Clay county, Nebraska where the family lived for about a year. Then they came to Howard county 58 years ago, settling on a farm near Wolbach, where they lived until taking up residence in St. Paul, which was in 1922. Mr. Zimbelman passed away on April 10, 1924 and since that time Mrs. Zimbelman has made her home here except for short periods when she visited at the homes of some of their children. In Russia the family was identified with the Reformed church and she was baptized and confirmed in that faith. The husband and four children preceded her in death. Those remaining to mourn her passing are the following: John Zimbelman, Henry Zimbelman, Jacob Zimbelman, Mrs. Peter Leth, St. Paul; Mrs. Alfred Studley, Mrs. George Studley, Greeley county, Alfred Zimbelman, Kearney and Christina Zimbelman, Kearney. There are twenty-five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the Keating Mortuary at 1:45 and at the Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock with the Rev. W. J. Primrose in charge. Grandsons were pallbearers, Lyle Leth, Vern Zimbelman, John Zimbelman, Donald Zimbelman, Aldro Zimbelman, and Darl Studley. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery.
