FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS CAMPBELL TUESDAY

Ethel Murray, daughter of Mr and Mrs James J Murray, was born in Philadelphia, Setp 24,1897. There she grew to womanhood, receiving her education in the schools of that city, and in addition taking a musical course and later a business course. On May 12,1920 at St Gregory's Church, Philadelphia, she was united in marriage to George Campbell of Atkinson and came west to make her home.

They resided in Atkinson for more than 3 years, their home being in Omaha for most of the past 2 years. On Christmas day she was taken sick with a cold which by the following Monday developed into pneumonia. She was taken to St Joseph's hospital where everything that care and medical skill could do for her recovery was done but to no avail and she passed away peacefully New Yrear's morning 1926. The body accompanied by her husband and other relatives was brought to Atkinson Monday and burial was made in St Joseph's Cemetery Tuesday, Jan 5th. The funeral service was held in St Joseph's Church conducted by Rev Henry Loecher, assisted by Father Gabriel Salinas of Omaha and Father Anthony Alberts of Ewing.

Her funeral was attended by a large crowd of friends. Mrs Campbell was a devoted Christian, her church life being first in importance of all the duties which she was faithful. She was an accomplished musician and a young woman of a pleasing and gracious personality, a general favorite with her friends she had made in her new home. Unusually beautiful numerous floral offerings attest to the esteem and sympathy of friends. Besides the young husband, she leaves to mourn their loss, her parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother, the Campbell family and numerous other relatives.

LIGHTNING KILLS JOSEPH FREOUF, OVER FORTY YEARS RESIDENT OF HOLT COUNTY

Lightning struck and instantly killed Joseph Freouf, 70, Friday morning, Aug 26, while he was raking hay near his farm home 13 miles southwest of Atkinson. Mr Freouf homesteaded on his home place in 1884, forty three years ago, and lived there until his death.

With his son, Emanuel Freouf and Chas Dobias, Mr Freouf was making hay on the hay quarter about a mile and a half northwest of the home. They had noticed the storm coming up and had just decided to unhitch and quit work when the bolt struck, while Mr Freouf still sat on the hay rake, passing through his body, to a wrench he carried in his hip pocket, thence to the iron seat, on the rake. While no one saw the bolt strike Mr Freouf, the marks on the wrench he carried and on the rake seat indicate that he was on the rake at the time.

His son, Emanuel heard the crash and saw his father's team running away, but at first thought they had been just frightened. When he could not see his father any place near, he ran to his assistance and found him where the lightning had knocked him from the rake, his clothes partially burned off by the bolt.

Joseph Freouf was 70 years 2 months and 26 days old, born in Rokycany, Bohemia, May 31,1857. At the age of 19 he came to the United States and settled in Ringgold County, Iowa, where he lived six years. Feb 4,1880 he was married to Miss Francis Ziska at Mt Ayr, Iowa. He came alone to Nebraska in 1884 and homesteaded on the place 13 miles southwest of Atkinson, bringing his family here a year later, where he lived until his death.

Mr Freouf is survived by his wife, nine children, ten grandchildren, and two sisters living at Creston, Iowa. The children are Frank J of Scotts Bluff; Chas E of Tonawanda; Mrs Marie Kemp of Stuart; Vincent of Lingle, Wyo; Frederick of Prescott, Ia; Mrs Millie E Miller of Glenrock, Wyo; Anton, Emanuel and Blanche who live at home; Four children preceded him in death; Frances and Anna, who died in infancy and were buried at their former home in Diagonal, Iowa; Theresa, also died in infancy, and Joseph S of Glendo, Wyo, died at the age of 31, Feb 8,1916. They were buried in Atkinson.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev Father Loecher, were held Monday at St Joseph's Church in Atkinson and interment was made in St Joseph's Cemetery.
