PURDY, KINNAMON, UNDERBUYER, GEIB, KESTERSON
I am trying to confirm the relationship of Benjamin Lockwood PURDY and
Thomas D. Purdy (his brother?) Benjamin lived in NY, Baraboo, WI, and
Fairbury, NE. In 1880 he was the federal census enumerator for Fairbury. I
am also trying to ascertain that Benjamin's father John Wesley Purdy
changed the family name from PARDEE to Purdy. Four of Benjamin's daughters
married men of the KINNAMON, UNDERBUYER, GEIB, and KESTERSON families; all
residing in Fairbury in the 1880's.

BROCK
BROCK, Robert and Catherine (Katharina) Blair, his wife. According to a hand
copied bio from an old History of Pottawattamie County Iowa book Robert and
Catherine Brock were the parents of my gr gr grandmother, Elizabeth Brock
Rounds. It mentions that her parents were living in Fairbury, Jefferson
County, Nebraska and that he was a farmer. I would really like to know if and
when they died there and anything else that might help me track down their
ancestral lines. This Brock family shows up on the 1850 Census in
Libertyville, Lake County, IL , but are not there in 1860 or 1870. The bio
goes on to say that Elizabeth Brock and her husband Harvey Rounds spent one
summer in Nebraska in either 1872 or 1873, so I feel that the Brock's (her
parents) must have been there by then. Any help greatly appreciated!!!!

SCRIVEN
I am interested in help from anyone who has information on the SCRIVEN
family in Jefferson County, Thayer County, Gage County from about 1880
to 1920. My great grandparents were Alpheus Clark SCRIVEN and Drucilla
CRAIG (SCRIVEN). He died in Fairbury, Jefferson County, in 1919. She
died in 1914.
I am particularly interested in finding the marriage of Charles Madison SCRIVEN, my grandfather, and Maggie WILLIAMS, probably between 1904 and 1917. Charles was 1st married to Ida THOMAS, in Fairbury on 7 May 1901. She was born around 1882 and was the daughter of John THOMAS and Samantha REAM, from Pennsylvania. Charles was born in Kirksville, Adair, Missouri, on 19 Dec 1879. A daughter, Hazel Ruth SCRIVEN, was born in 1901 or 1902. Another child was supposedly born in January of 1904. I would like information on the births of these children. Hazel married John Marion W. RIDENOUR in Fairbury on 18 Mar 1919. They must have been divorced soon after, as he is listed as single and living with his parents on the 1920 Census. Charles and Ida were also divorced, as she is listed as Ida KILGORE when her daughter, Hazel Ruth, was married. Any information on any of these people would be tremendous. We think Hazel was later married to a Mr. Young, and they had 3 daughters: Charolett (sp?), Audrey, and Virginia around 1927-1932, but they may have been born away from Nebraska. Anyone with information on these people or Levi and Nancy (Kimberlin) SCRIVEN, Frank Thomas and Grace (Watson) SCRIVEN, or others with that surname, please contact me at cabone@davis.uswest.net

George W. Ulbrick (need new email address) Thu Jan 30 15:32:39 1997
ULBRICK
I am beginning research on the story of great-great aunt, Veronica
ULBRICK. She was the daughter of Peter Ulbrick who homesteaded in
Jefferson Co., NE during the 1860's. I am trying to locate resources
that will help me identify the exact location of the homestead site. It
was the scene of one the county's last Indian raids during the summer of
1867.
A raiding party of what I believe to have been Black Kettle's Cheyennes was raiding farms and ranches along the Big Blue and abuducted two of Peter Ulbrick's children. A boy of 12 was killed and the daughter, Vernonica, was taken captive and held for two years. She was returned during an "exchange" in 1869.
Peter Ulbrick and family subsequently moved to Otoe Co., NE where he lived the remainder of his life as did Veronica at a later date. The history of the family is reasonably well-documented during the Otoe Co. phase. Living decendents still reside there.
I am basing part of my information on the Peter Ulbrick homestead from an original handwritten petition to Gov. David Butler circulated during the summer of 1867. It requested military protection for the settlers of the area based upon this and other similar incidents.
This artifact of local history should probably reside in a more suitable location. It has been in my family for more than 60 years having been retrieved from a consignment of documents destined for the incinerator at the Nebraska State capitol during the 1930's. Any ideas on my search and the disposition of the document would be welcome.
