Accidental Poisoning – Central City Republican – Mrs. Adelia Adams, for many years a highly esteemed resident of the village of Silver Creek, died Friday afternoon as the result of accidental poisoning.   She had arisen early that morning and under the impression that she was taking salts, had swallowed a poison kept for the extermination of ants.  Owing to the fact that she was well advanced in years, it was impossible for her to withstand the weakening effects of the drugs, and she grew rapidly worse despite everything that could be done to alleviate her condition.  She passed away without knowing what had caused her illness.

DR. ADAMS DIES IN G.I. [Grand Island NE] Funeral Rites To Be Held in Wolbach For Prominent Physician -- Dr. Howard C. Adams, Wolbach physician for 40 years, dies Monday evening in a Grand Island hospital. Dr. Adams, who was 72 years old, entered the hospital October 21. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Methodist church. Dr. C. B. Harman will officiate. Born in Warren county, O., son of Nathan and Charlotte Adams, the deceased attended high school at Lebanon, O., and was a student at the University of Lebanon. He was graduated from the University of Chicago in 1901 and three years later started his practice in Wolbach. In January 1907, he was married to Miss Helen Burgess at Evanston, Ill. Dr. Adams was a member of the Tri-County Medical Society and the Nebraska Medical Association. He served as a member of the Wolbach village board for four years. Funeral Rites For Wolbach Physician -- Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon for Dr. Howard C. Adams, well-known Wolbach physician. Brief services were held at the family home, followed by rites at the Methodist church at 3 o'clock. Dr. C. B. Harman of Grand Island and Rev. A. C. Ehret, pastor, officiated. Mrs. J. C. Wilson and Mrs. David E. Bengtson sang. Burial was in Hillside cemetery. The pallbearers: Dr. P. A. Bartunek of Knoxville, Ia., Henry Bredthauer of Scotia, J. C. Wilson, E. L. Johnson, Gus Rother and Edward Kolar. Out-of-own friends here to attend the funeral services included Dr. and Mrs. C. B. Harman, Mrs. Soren Olson and Mrs. Gus Schomburg of Grand Island, Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Ehret of North Loup, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schomburg of Cushing, Mrs. Max Stepp of Greeley, Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Brannen of Greeley, Mrs. R. Woodruff of Grand Island. Dr. Howard Chalfient Adams, son of Nathan and Charlotte Adams, was born November 27, 1871, in Franklin, O., and died October 30 in a Grand Island hospital. In his childhood he was baptized in the Lutheran church of Donaldville, O. In his early manhood he joined the Methodist church at Lebanon, O. After his public school education he attended the National Normal University of Southern Ohio, graduating with the Bachelor of Science degree and the Bachelor of Arts degree. He was graduated from the Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1898 and was an intern at the Presbyterian hospital there. Dr. Adams spent two years as a pathologist at the Kankakee, Ill., mental hospital and one year at Mount Pleasant, Ia. He was also on the medical faculty at Drake University at Des Moines. In 1902 Dr. Adams moved to Archer, Neb., where he practiced until August, 1903, when he came to Wolbach. On July 16, 1905, he was married to Miss Helen A. Burgess of Merrick county. Anna Elizabeth (Avery) Aldrich, 1853-1917
Mrs. L. H. Aldrich -- Mrs. L. H. Aldrich passed away at Omaha at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Riley, Thursday, September 19th, of [illegible], at the advanced [illegible] 5 months and 2 days. The end was not expected for she had been in good health up until time of death. She had just returned from a tour of thru (sic) the state of Minnesota, where she had been for a little outing. Anna Elizabeth Avery was born the 11th day of April 1853. While yet a young girl she moved to Polk county where has resided ever since, boasting of having resided in that county for 38 years. In the year 1872, she was married to L. H. Aldrich and to this union 12 children were born, 7 boys and 5 girls, of which 2 girls preceded her in life. All the children attended the funeral but one son, who resides in Minnesota, and conditions at home were such, with his own family that he was unable to attend. Those attending the funeral were: Charles of Wolbach, Walter and Alf of Omaha, George and Wm. Of Becker, Minn., Robert of Polk, Mrs. Lucy Riley of Omaha, Mrs. G. W. Rolls of Palmer and Mrs. Alice Bonaja of Polk. The pall bearers were the six sons. Mrs. Aldrich was a devoted mother and a kind and thoughtful neighbor, and will be greatly missed by those who enjoyed her close friendship, she has been in Wolbach several times, and on her visits here she has made many good and thoughtful friends who are sorry to learn of her departure from this earth. The funeral was held from Aberville, this state where they were laid to rest. She leaves besides her sons and daughters, only one relative, which is a brother, 33 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and a host of friends. One thing worthy of mention is that her father, George W. Avery, was one of the first passengers to strike out across the plains for California in 1849, at the time of the gold rush. Many are the tales that she has been told by her father, and she later related them to her children. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

Laura R. (Jones) Augaubright Aldrich, 1866-1923
OBITUARY -- Laura R. Jones was born in Warren county, Illinois, June 8, 1866, and died at her home in Wolbach, Nebraska, June 14, 1923, aged 57 years and 6 days. When she was about five years old she came with her parents to David City, Nebraska, where she grew to young womanhood. During her life she was married twice, first to Orin Augaubright. To this union two daughters were born, Eva and Vera. The father and Eva preceded the mother and Vera to the Better Land. In 1913 she was married to Charles A. Aldrich, and most of the time since then has made her home in Wolbach. There remains to mourn the loss four sisters and one brother, namely Mrs., J. B. Murray of Beatrice, Nebr., Mrs. Clara Flynn of Cordova, Nebr., Mrs. Ella Kelley, Beaver Crossing, Mrs. Maude Blumm, McCool, and Ralph Jones, York; her daughter, Mrs. Vera Kennedy of Dallas, Texas; her husband Charles A. Aldrich, and his three children, Elmer, Martha, and Howard Aldrich. She was a member of the United Brethren church in Shelby, Nebraska, while she was a resident of that town. When she came to Wolbach, she united with Trinity Lutheran Church and continued a faithful member of same. She was active in church work and served as president of the Ladies-- Aid Society. She served one term on the board of Education of Wolbach. Mrs. Aldrich was an affectionate wife, a loving mother, a good neighbor and a consistent Christian woman. She bore her afflictions and sufferings with marvelous patience and optimism until the last. "She rests from her labors and her works do follow her." On Friday, June 15 at 5 o'clock funeral services were held at the Aldrich home. Saturday, June 18, (sic) the remains were taken to Shelby, Nebraska, her former home, and laid to rest in the cemetery of that town. The pastor and his wife accompanied the funeral procession to Shelby. Mrs. Aldrich was well known and respected at Wolbach. The family and surviving relatives have the profound sympathy of the whole community.

Former Resident Buried Tuesday -- Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Primrose of St. Paul were held Tuesday afternoon at Spalding for Mr. D. F. Allard who passed away at his home early Monday morning. Mr. Allard suffered a paralytic stroke several weeks ago since which time he has been confined to his bed in a serious condition, with little hopes expressed for his recovery. Interment was made in Hillside Cemetery here. The Allard family formerly lived in Wolbach where they operated a bakery, moving to a farm near Spalding several years ago. The deceased is survived by his wife and several grown children. Mrs. Allard is a daughter of "Grandma" Gillespie of this place. We have been unable to get an obituary for publication this week. The sympathy of old friends here is extended to the sorrowing family.

Mrs. N. H. Allard Rites in Cedar Rapids -- Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Klein returned home Monday from Cedar Rapids, where they attended the last rites for the latter's grandmother, Mrs. N. H. Allard, 80, of Primrose, who passed away Friday following a stroke. Funeral services was held in the Methodist church at Cedar Rapids Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Newquist officiated. Burial there. Mr. and Mrs. Allard celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last November. She leaves to mourn her loss, her aged husband, two sons, Harvey of Greeley and Nelson of Omaha; eight daughters, Mrs. Millie Kelly of Grand Island; Mrs. Helen Flumme of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Myrtle Wise, Mrs. Alta Casper, Mrs. Josephine Raker and Mrs. Hattie Wise of Primrose; Miss Mary Allard of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Stella Andrews of Columbus, Nebraska; sixteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 sister in Illinois, a brother in North Dakota and a host of other relatives.

Earl Allen Buried at Waverly, Nebr. -- Funeral services for Earl C. Allen, 23, who ended his life last Wednesday afternoon in the hay mow of the barn at the farm of his parents in South Spring Creek community, were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Trinity Lutheran Church. Last rites were conducted by Rev. Walter Chittenden, and burial made in the cemetery at Waverly, Nebraska on Saturday, with Henry Rother, Ivan Berney, Clayton Marco, LeRoy Stepp, Bob Marco and Raymond Rother as pall bearers. OBITUARY -- Earl C. Allen was born in Greeley county about 5 miles northeast of Wolbach July 17, 1913 and passed away at his home 2 miles southeast of Wolbach February 3, 1937 at the age of 23 years, 6 months and 16 days. He has lived all of his life in this community, and was known as a quiet and reserved young man, loyal to his many friends. He was an active athlete and a member of the Wolbach baseball team for several years, usually as a pitcher. He leaves to mourn his passing besides his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Allen, four brothers, William, Irvin, Albert and Jack, and four sisters, Grace, Dorothy, Lois and Lorraine all of Wolbach, one grandmother and numerous other relatives and friends.

Grace Allen Is Pneumonia Victim -- The community was again saddened Sunday when word was received that Grace Allen, 14, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Allen of the South Spring Creek community had passed away in the St. Francis Hospital at Grand Island. Death was caused from pneumonia with which she had been ill for some time. Funeral services in charge of the McIntyre mortuary were conducted by Rev. Walter Chittenden in the Lutheran church at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, burial being made in the Rose Hill cemetery at Waverly, Nebraska. Pall bearers were Gordon Wagner, Harold Glines, Carroll Berney, Donald Borre, Raymond Janc and Leander Novak. OBITUARY -- Grace Evelyn Allen was born on a farm nine miles north east of Wolbach, August 18, 1922, and passed away February 28, 1937 at the age of 14 years, 6 months and 10 days. She leaves to mourn her passing aside from her parents, four brothers, Will, Irvin, Albert and Jack, and three sisters, Dorothy, Lois and Lorraine, all of Wolbach, one grandmother, and numerous relatives and friends. One brother, Earl, preceded her in death less than a month ago.

Mrs. Albert Allen Answers Summons -- Wolbach and community is again saddened by the death of Mrs. Albert Allen who passed away Monday. Mrs. Allen who has not been in good health for several years, became seriously ill with perforated ulcers of the stomach several days ago. It was deemed best to remove her to a hospital in Grand Island Monday, but she passed away just before reaching there. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Primrose of St. Paul were held in Trinity Lutheran Church, Wednesday afternoon. The pall bearers were: Rex Marco, Raymond Rother, Ed Lange, Bill Lantz; Alson Steele and Austin Berney. Relatives attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. George Pickrel; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Graves and son; Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Graves; Mr. Henry Pickrel; Mr. Ora Graves of Clarks; Hazel Coy and daughter Evelyn of Lincoln; Mrs. F. Scott, daughter Mrs. Hazella Taylor of Hastings; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Graves of Palmer; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Graves and Noah Pickrel of Belgrade and Mr. and Mrs. Thorp of Arnold, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Grant, Mr. Fred Allen of Waverly, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bayliss of Lincoln, Mrs. Ed. Forman and daughter of Davies. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the grief stricken family. OBITUARY -- Myrtle Lillian Pickrel, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Pickrel was born in Merrick County six miles east of Wolbach on June 18, 1912 and passed away July 23, 1934, age twenty-two years, one month and five days. She made her home in the vicinity of Wolbach all her life. On November 25, 1931 she was united in marriage to Albert Allen. Since then they have made their home four miles east of Wolbach. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, her parents, one sister, Mrs. Loas (sic) Klein and three brothers, Earl, Ervin and Ivan all of Wolbach and a host of relatives and friends. "She is not dead; she only sleeps, Safe in the arms of Him who keeps His lambs secure from earth's alarm. From grief and sin and foes that harm. She is not dead; she is at rest. Content upon her Saviours breast. Dear child, we loved you so, But Jesus loved you more, we know." Andres Christian Andersen, Sr., 1848-1919
Death of A. C. Andersen, Sr. -- Friday evening, about eight o'clock, the news of the death of Mr. Andersen came to Wolbach. Mr. Andersen has been in ill health for the past twelve years. He (sic) numerous partial strokes and this past winter has been failing fast, together with his sickness and his advanced age, his family felt that the end could not be far. Several times in the past three years Mr. Andersen seemed to be at the point of death, but would rally and be able to be about. On account of his illness he was unable at times to talk to his friends, but he ways (sic) pleased to see them. Andres Christian Andersen was born June 19th, 1848 at Phen, Denmark. He immigrated to America in 1872. He came to Seward County, Nebr., living there nine years. In the spring of 1884 he came to Howard county, Nebr., which has been his home ever since. He was one of the pioneers of Howard county, who endured the early day hardships. Mr. Andersen was twice wedded. His first wife lived but a few years after their marriage. In 1888 he was united in marriage to his wife, now his widow. To this union were born three children, who with the mother survive him. The children are Niels, Lillian and Anton. Niels was unable to be present as he is now stationed with the U. S. army at Brest, France. Mr. Andersen was laid to rest in South Logan Cemetery. A large number of friends attended the funeral which was conducted Sunday by Rev. Sorensen of Cushing. Arnold George Andersen, 1913-1920
Obituary -- Arnold George Andersen was born near Wolbach, Nebraska August 23rd, 1913. He died at the home of A. L. Kinney in Wolbach, Sunday evening, March 14, 1920, aged 6 years, 6 months and 21 days. When the family had broken up housekeeping preparatory to moving to South Dakota, Arnold was taken with appendicitis and passed away after having undergone an operation and two weeks of intense suffering. In infancy he was baptized in the Lutheran Church, by Rev. A. O. Soeholm. He leaves to mourn the loss his father and mother, Martin and Susanne Andersen; five brothers, John, Anton, Nels, Alfred and Edwin; four sisters, Anina, Anna, Alma and Helene Andersen. Two brothers died in infancy and Jennie died in the fall of 1918. Funeral services conducted by Rev. R. A. White were held in Trinity Lutheran Church, Monday, March 15th at 2:30 PM after which the body was laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery. The stricken family have the sympathy of all.

Obituary -- Carl O. Andersen was born in Denmark, Oct. 9, 1886, and came to this country [blank spot] years ago, and has resided in this vicinity ever since. He is survived by his father, mother, three sisters and two brothers in the old country and one brother, Chris, who resides in town. He died after a brief illness of but one week, at the age of 23 years, 4 months and 21 days. The deceased was a strong, healthy young man, liked by all who knew him, and no one would have thought of him being taken away in the very spring time of life. Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church on Thursday afternoon, Rev. J. H. McDonald, the pastor, officiating. Interment in the Wolbach cemetery.

Carrie Mathiesen Andersen, 1882-1934
Death Angel Calls Mrs. Andersen -- Wolbach and community was saddened Monday by the death of Mrs. Chris Andersen, who passed away at the St. Francis Hospital early that morning. Mrs. Andersen who has been a sufferer from anemia for several years had been in unusually good health for some time and was again taking an active part in church and lodge affairs which she had dropped on account of ill health and was assisting in the preparation of the Alumni banquet when she became ill. She was taken to the hospital Sunday morning but passed away early Monday from heart failure. OBITUARY -- Carrie Mathiesen Andersen was born in Vieberg, Denmark, September 18, 1882 and died June 11, 1934, aged 51 years, 9 months and 23 days. In 1892 she came to America to make her home and has lived practically in or near Wolbach during this entire time. In February, 1901 she was united in marriage to Martinus H. Mathiesen and to this union three children were born, Mae Johnson, residing near Wolbach, Martinus who passed away in 1922, and a little girl that died in infancy. On July 31, 1909 her husband Martinus H. Mathiesen died in Omaha of Typhoid Fever. On January 6, 1917 she was again united in marriage, this time to Chris M. Andersen to which one son was born, Harvey C. whom she leaves together with Mae Johnson and Hans A. Mathiesen of Lincoln, Hans being a step son whom she raised as her own; and also the following brothers and sisters to mourn her death: Chris Madsen of Amelia, Nebr.; Catherine Lowe of Hollister, Idaho, Sena Miner of Broken Bow, Nebr.; Marie Kitch of Grand Island, Nebr.; Eva Christensen of Wolbach; Mabel Waddell of Joliet, Montana; and Peter and Will Madsen of Wolbach. In infancy she was consecrated in baptism and in early life was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and was a charter member of Wolbach Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was always a loyal and faithful worker in and for the Church. She was a member of the church choir and served in various capacities as an officer in church organizations for many years being president of the Ladies Auxiliary which office she held at the time of her death. Because of her loyalty and fidelity to her Lord she has been a pillar of strength in her congregation. We thank God for the memory of a life that leaves behind it such radiance and purity. Largely attended funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rhine in Trinity Lutheran Church Wednesday afternoon. Pall bearers were Torval Andersen, Andrew Andersen, Edwin Johnson, Joe Johnson, Jacob Hansen and Hans Hansen. Friends and relatives attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Miner and son Verdin of Broken Bow; Mrs. Max Waddell of Joliet, Montana; Mr. and Mrs. Bart F. Andersen and son of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Hans A. Mathiesen and children and Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Wibbels of Lincoln; Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Kitch of Grand Island; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Hansen of Osceola; and Miss Mae Livings of Davenport. The deep felt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the sorrowing family in their great loss.

Final Rites For Fred Andersen Are Conducted Thursday -- Former well-known resident who died at his daughter's home in Omaha is laid to rest -- Funeral services for Fred Andersen, former well-known resident of this community who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Rasmussen in Omaha, Feb. 4, were held Thursday afternoon at one o'clock from McIntyre Funeral chapel in Grand Island and at two o'clock from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church with Rev. Calvin Naugle of Kountz Memorial Lutheran church of Omaha delivering the sermon. He was assisted by Rev. E. N. Haugse. Interment was in Hillside cemetery. Pallbearers were Jacob DeLaurant, Chris Borre, Torval Christensen, Nels P. Hansen, Wm. Rasmussen and Paul Paulsen. Frederick Andersen was born April 27, 1868 in Fredricksborg, Denmark. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran church in his native land. He came to America in 1890. He was united in marriage to Kristin Marie Olsen April 2, 1891. They lived at Lincoln, Neb., until the spring of 1903 when they moved to Wolbach where they resided until the spring of 1935 at which time they moved to Omaha. After the death of his wife in 1936 Mr. Andersen lived with his daughter, Mrs. Anna Rasmussen until his death. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood lodge No. 118. Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Lars Andersen of Elba, Martin Andersen of Grand Island, Mrs. Carrie Johnson of Grand Island and Mrs. Rasmussen; a sister, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Pasadena, Calif., a brother Jens of Denmark, besides nine grandchildren and two great grandsons. CARD OF THANKS -- We wish to thank our friends and neighbors and the Danish brotherhood for their kindness during bereavement and for the beautiful floral offerings at the funeral of our beloved father. John Rhine were held at 2 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran church Monday for Mrs. Fred Andersen who passed away at her home in Omaha, Saturday, March 28, following an illness of a few days. Pall bearers were: Jake DeLaurant, Paul Paulsen, Chris Borre, Torval Christensen, Wm. Rasmussen and Nels Hansen. Interment was made in the Hillside cemetery. OBITUARY -- Kirstin Marie Olsen was born at Fredericksborg, Denmark April 14, 1869 and died at Omaha, Nebr., March 28, 1936 at the age of almost 67 years. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her native country. In 1891 she came to America and on April 2 of the same year was united in marriage to Frederick Andersen. The family made their home near Lincoln until the spring of 1903 when they moved to this community. Here they resided until a year ago when they moved to Omaha. At the time of her death she was President of the local lodge of Danish Sisterhood, which organization will miss her staunch support. She leaves to mourn her departure, in addition to her husband, two sons and two daughters Lars Andersen of Elba, Nebr., Martin of Omaha; Mrs. Carrie Johnson of Grand Island and Mrs. Anna Rasmussen of Omaha, eight grandchildren, one brother, Nels Olsen of Grand Island and a host of other relatives and friends.

Abigail Jane (Paul) Townsend Anderson, 1854-1943
Last Rites for Mrs. A. Anderson -- Mrs. Abigail Anderson, a resident of South Greeley county for 61 years, passed away Thursday afternoon following an extended illness. Mrs. Anderson had suffered an injury to her hip a number of months ago, from which she had never fully recovered. But she was possessed of a strong constitution and for a time was able to get about with the aid of a chair. Abigail Jane Paul, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Paul, was born in Delaware county, New York on June 9, 1854, and died January 21, 1943 at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 12 days. When she was 18 years old she was united in marriage to Debruce Townsend. To this union were born three children, Annabell Mallory, who passed away in 1925, Joseph and Andrew J. Townsend. Mr. Townsend passed away, and the family moved to Nebraska in 1881. In 1882 the family moved to a farm just over the county line in Greeley county, which has been the family home since that time. In 1887 Mrs. Townsend was married to Chris Anderson. To this union were born three children, Paul and Ella, at home, and Mrs. Mary Nelson of St. Paul. Mr. Andersen died on February 9, 1924. Truly a pioneer, Mrs. Anderson often related her experiences as such, her first home being a dug out, then a home built out of sod. As she watched the country grow, from barren hillsides and plains to thriving country homes, so her home grew more comfortable and modern, where her friends and dear ones loved to gather. She has seen the growth of railroads and towns and the younger generation loved to hear her tell of the menaces they encountered, blizzards, prairie fires and ravages by insects. Many the changes wrought during her busy, happy life. Mrs. Anderson was a very hospitable woman and was greatly loved by her children and grandchildren. It was the custom each Sunday for all the family to gather at the home for dinner. She was a devout Christian and always did her part in the support of the church and attended services as long as she was able. A fine family of children is left to carry on the good work which she has done in this world. She was devotedly cared for by her children at home, Paul and Ella, and by her children living at St. Paul, Joe and Andrew and Mrs. Nelson. Those who knew her loved her for her kindness and unselfishness and her desire to help others. In her last moments in this life, her thoughts and wishes were concerning the welfare of those she loved. For many years she has been a faithful member of the Baptist church, and she gloried in any work which was for the up-building of Christ's kingdom. "Life's race well run Life's work well done, Life's crown well won, Now comes rest." She leaves to mourn besides her children, 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 Sunday afternoon under the direction of the McIntyre Funeral Home, with Rev. V. R. Bell of the Methodist church and Rev. Nils Barton, an old friend of the family officiating. The choir was composed of Mr. and Mrs. George Jacobson and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Oakeson. They sang "Shall We Meet", "No Night There", and "Saved By Grace."  Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Anderson, Marvin, Darrell and Warren Townsend, Myron, Earl and Paul Nelson. Burial was in the Summit cemetery in the Fairdale community.

Anders Fredrick Anderson, 1882-1945
Obituary -- Anders Fredrick Anderson was born in Oland, Sweden, December 10, 1882 and died January 9, 1945 at the state hospital at Kearney, Neb. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Sweden. At the age of fourteen, he came alone to the United States and arrived in Cushing, Neb., in the summer of 1897, making his home with relatives for a number of years. He later farmed in Howard and Valley counties. In 1910 he bought land near Cushing, on which be built his home. In June 1911 he was united in marriage to Mary Berst to which union eight children were born: Clayton, Carl, Ernest, Verna, Ruth, Irene, and two sons who died in infancy. On July 19, 1926 Mrs. Anderson died. On August 18, 1931 he was married to Hulda Jensen, to which union one son, Allen, was born. Mr. Anderson moved from the farm to Cushing in January, 1943. He had been in poor health for a number of years, and September 25, 1944, he entered the State hospital at Kearney. Surviving are his wife, Hulda, seven children: Clayton and Ernest of Cushing, Carl of Elba, Verna of Kansas City, Mrs. Ruth Burger of Grand Island, Mrs. Irene Miller of St. Paul and Allen, at home; and seven grandchildren.

Andrew Anderson, 1892-1941
Andrew Anderson Died Monday P.M. -- The community was saddened Monday night to learn of the sudden death of Andrew Anderson, former well known and highly respected citizen, at Harlan, Iowa, Monday afternoon about 4 o'clock. Mr. Anderson was in the Harlan post office shortly after dinner, where he collapsed. He was rushed to a hospital but passed away about two hours later. He and his family had left this community only a year ago last spring when they moved to Walnut, Iowa. The body is being brought to Wolbach for burial but as we go to press Wednesday we had not learned the time of the funeral.

Last Rites Are Conducted for Andrew Anderson -- Funeral Was Held Friday Afternoon from Trinity Lutheran; Rev. Haugse Officiating -- Funeral services for Andrew C. Anderson, former widely known resident of this community who died at Harlan, Ia., a week ago Monday, were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Trinity Lutheran church with the former pastor, Rev. E. N. Haugse, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Behrman, Archie Nelson Ora Studley, Paul Paulsen, E. L. Johnson and Alvie Glenn. Andrew C. Anderson was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on March 30, 1892 and passed away at Harlan, Ia., on Nov. 24, 1941 at the age of 49 years, 7 months and 24 days. He lived with his parents in Iowa until the age of 17 years when he moved with them to a farm about 8 miles northeast of Wolbach, Neb., in which locality he lived until the spring of 1940. He then moved to a farm located about 6 miles north of Walnut, Iowa, at which place he lived at the time of his death. On March 15, 1916, he was united in marriage to Leona Wibbels to which union nine children were born, Lawrence of Lincoln, Nebr., Hazel Bauer of Bridgeport, Nebr., John, Arthur, Marion, Jean and Jo Ann at home, Paul and Ralph having died in infancy. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran church of Wolbach, Nebr., and was an active worker in church work while he lived there. He was also interested in all civic affairs and was always ready to help in anything for the good of the Church and community. He leaves to mourn his death besides his family, three brothers, Chris of Wolbach, Bartle of Council Bluffs, Ia., and Torval of Lincoln, and two sisters, Mary Wibbels of Columbia, Mo., and Lollie Wibbels of Wolbach and one grandchild, together with a number of relatives and a host of friends. Anna Anderson, 1875-1933
Mrs. Anna Anderson passed away Sunday night at the home west of Cushing where she has resided for many years with her brother Chris. She had been ill for the past six years and lately had been bedfast. She was 57 years old. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Kaldahl were held Tuesday afternoon at the Cushing Lutheran church and the body was taken to Hastings for burial. Anna was born December 9, 1875 on a farm 2 miles north of Nysted, near Dannebrog. In 1880 the family moved to St. Paul, and in 1894 to the farm home near Cushing where she has since resided. She was a very active worker in the Cushing Lutheran church, where her efforts bore much fruit. Anna is survived by five brothers and two sisters: Chris of Cushing, Paul of St. Paul, Mrs. Carrie Glass of Grand Island, Edna, George, Arthur and Charles of Hastings, six nephews and six nieces.

Anna Christena (Bartelson) Anderson, 1856-1928
Mrs. J. L. Anderson Answers Last Call -- After a few days illness, Mrs. J. L. Anderson passed away at her home in Wolbach Monday morning at 1:00 o'clock. Funeral services conducted by Rev. R. A. White were held at the Trinity Lutheran church in Wolbach at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, after which the remains were taken on the train to Council Bluffs, Iowa, for burial. Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Wibbels of Lincoln and Bartle Anderson of Council Bluffs were here at the time of Mrs. Anderson's death. A loving mother, a kind neighbor, and a true friend is lost to the community in the passing of Mrs. Anderson. OBITUARY -- Anna Christena Bartelson was born in Tronum, Denmark, January 21, 1856. She immigrated to Shelby County, Iowa early in 1882 and later moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1909, she came to Greeley County, Nebr. and lived the last few years in Wolbach. She passed away at her home in Wolbach, October 29, 1928 after an illness of a few days, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 8 days. She was united in marriage in Council Bluffs to James Lawrence Anderson. To this union eight children were born. Her husband preceded her in death in February, 1917. Two of her children, passed to the great beyond, leaving six living, four sons and two daughters. The sons are Chris, Andrew and Torval Anderson of Wolbach and Bartle Anderson of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The two daughters are Lottie Wibbels of Wolbach and Mary Wibbels of Lincoln, Nebr. These were all with her in her last hours. Besides these, she leaves to mourn the loss, three sisters, Mrs. Anna Anderson of Wolbach, Mrs. Lena Willadson of Hallock, Minnesota and Margaret Christensen of Sardy, Utah; one brother, Chris Bartelson of Belmont, North Dakota; eighteen grandchildren and a host of friends in every community that has had the good fortune of having her amongst them. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denmark. She was for a while connected with a Methodist Congregation in the Star school house, Greeley County, Nebraska. In Wolbach she attended the services and helped in the support of the Danish and Trinity Lutheran Churches. She always showed in her daily life a true Christian spirit. Often her own welfare was secondary that she might add to the joys and comfort of her relatives, and be helpful to those in need. Her surviving children, grandchildren and all other relatives have the profound sympathy of a multitude of friends. "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted."

Anna Osella (Berthelsen) Anderson, 1853-1933
Anna Osella Andersen Passed Away Tuesday -- Mrs. Anna Osella Andersen, mother of Bart and Obel Andersen, died at her home 7 ½ miles north of Wolbach, Tuesday, March 14 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 21 days. She had been bedfast for 28 months. Mrs. Andersen was born at Tranam, Denmark, January 21, 1853, came to American in 1878. She was united in marriage to John Andersen in 1887 to Minnesota where they lived for 17 years; then moved to Iowa near Council Bluffs in 1904. In 1910 they moved on their farm north of Wolbach, where she has lived since. Her husband died in 1914, and one son Oscar passed away March 21.1928. Four sons survive her, namely: Andrew Nelson of Brayton, Ia., and Chas Nelson of Racine, Ia., sons by her first marriage; Bart Andersen and Obel Andersen of Wolbach; also two sisters, one brother and 14 grand children. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran church and burial in Wolbach cemetery.

Funeral Services Held For Anna Anderson --
Funeral services, conducted by Dr. R. A. White were held in Trinity Lutheran church, Friday afternoon, March 17, 1933 for Mrs. Anna Osella Anderson. A large number of relatives and friends were present to pay their final tribute to the deceased. Burial was made in the Wolbach cemetery. As a correction of the obituary as printed in the Messenger last week, the home of Charles Nelson, a son by Mrs. Anderson's first marriage, is at Massens, Iowa, instead of Racine, Iowa. Charles Nelson, son Glen, daughter Evelyn and daughter-in-law Mrs. Edwin C. Nelson of Massens and Andrew Nelson of Brayton, Ia, were here for the funeral, returning to their homes Saturday. Mrs. Anderson, whose maiden name was Anna Osella Berthelsen was baptized and confirmed as a child in the Danish Lutheran church in her native country of Denmark. The family, having lived at the farm north of Wolbach since 1910, is well known throughout this community, and the surviving relatives have the sincere sympathy of all. Christian Anderson, 1860-1924
Chris Anderson who lived several miles west of Wolbach died some time during the early morning hours last Saturday. He retired in usual health and at 2 o'clock in the morning when his son Paul was awakened by a disturbance in the barn he heard his father's regular heavy breathing as he passed the room where he slept. Later in the morning after Paul had arisen and built a fire his mother called him to the room where Mr. and Mrs. Anderson slept. Upon reaching there it was found that Mr. Anderson was dead, having passed away during the night. It was a great shock to the family and their friends. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon.

Death of Christian Anderson -- We are sorry we did not get to publish the following obituary of Mr. Christian Anderson in an earlier issue and we would feel that we were doing an injustice to the memory of his useful life if we failed to record in these columns the outstanding facts of his life. Christian Anderson was born in Denmark, December 10th 1860. He came to America in 1882 and lived for several years in Omaha, then came to Greeley county. He was united in marriage to Mrs. Abbie Townsend Dec 7, 1887 and together they bore their burdens and shared their joys. To them were born three children, Paul L., Mary J. and Ella, who with Mrs. Andersen and three step-children, Joseph and Andrew Townsend and Mrs. Anna Mallory, are left to mourn the loss of a faithful and loving husband and father. There are also two grand children and sixteen step grand children. Mr. Anderson was brought up in the Lutheran church and continued throughout life to be vitally interested in things pertaining to the church. The door of his home as well as the door of his heart, was always open in cordial welcome to the messenger who came with the good news of the Kingdom. He was a man of broad Christian spirit and of deep human sympathy, and always attempted to do the right. He will be greatly missed not only in his home but also in the community, and in the little house of worship where he delighted to meet with his neighbors and friends. And these neighbors and friends deeply sympathize with the bereaved family in this sad hour. His life came to a close suddenly and without warning in the early morning of February 9, 1924 at the age of 63 years, 1 month and 29 days. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday, February 12, conducted by Rev. E. H. Pontius of Geneva and Rev. J. Magnusen of Elba. Dale Arthur Anderson, 1934-1934
Infant Son Passes Away -- The sympathy of the entire community is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Obel Anderson who mourn the death of their infant son. Dale Arthur Anderson was born September 8, 1934 and passed away at the St. Francis hospital in Grand Island on September 15, 1934 at the age of one week. He was consecrated in baptism in the Lutheran Church. Everything that human hands could do was done to save him, but it was God's will that his sojourn on earth should be short. He leaves to mourn his loss: his parents, two sisters, Sylvia and LaFern, a brother Leonard and a host of other relatives and friends. "Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep, From which none ever wakes to weep; A calm and undisturbed repose, Unbroken by the last of foes." Funeral services were held in Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday afternoon at two thirty o'clock. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. S. Rhine and interment was in Hillside cemetery. CARD OF THANKS -- We wish to thank our dear neighbors and friends for the help and many acts of kindness and sympathy shown during the illness and after the death of our beloved infant son, Dale Arthur. James Lawrence Anderson, 1852-1917
Obituary -- James Lawrence Anderson was born in Denmark, April 27, 1852 and came to America in 1880, and settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was united in married to Miss Anne Christen Berthelson on June 10th, 1882. To this union were born eight children, 5 sons and 3 daughters, two of which preceded him to the great beyond. The living are: Bart Anderson, Mills county, Iowa, C. M. Anderson, Andrew Anderson, Torval Anderson, Miss Lillie Anderson and Mrs. Mary Wibbel, all of Wolbach, Nebraska. Mr. Anderson left Council Bluffs, some 27 years ago and moved to Glenwood, Iowa, where he lived about 20 years, and there also had the love and respect of all that knew him. From there he moved to Wolbach in 1909, and here became widely known, on account of his public spirit and always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone, consequently leaves a host of friends to mourn his loss, and who sympathize with the bereaved wife and children. Mr. Anderson united with the Methodist church early in life, to which he remained a true and faithful member all through life. The funeral was held from the Broadway Methodist church of Council Bluffs. Rev. Crisum officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in the beautiful Fairview cemetery at Council Bluffs, Iowa. The pall bearers were: W. F. Nelson, Wolbach, Nebraska, Ernest Wagner, Wolbach, Nebraska, C. H. Spetman, Glenwood, Iowa, Wm Scheidle, Glenwood, Iowa, Lawrence Hanson, Council Bluffs, Martin Smith, Council Bluffs.

Jennie Matilda Katharina Anderson, 1895-1918
Jennie M. Anderson -- Jennie Matilda Katharina Anderson, daughter of Martin and Susanne Anderson was born at Gayville, Yankton County, S. D., December 4th 1895, died at her home three miles northwest of Wolbach, Nebraska, Sunday, October 20th 1918, aged 22 years, 10 months and 15 days. In infancy she was baptized in the Lutheran church and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran church of Wolbach, April 4th 1915 by the pastor, R. A. White. She leaves to mourn the loss four sisters and six brothers, Anina, Anna, John, Anton, Nels, Alfred, Alma, Edwin, Arnold and Helen. Two of her brothers preceded her to the "Better Land." For six years she had been afflicted and a patient sufferer all the time. All was done for her recovery and comfort that medical skill and kind hands could do. She was an example of a consistent Christian, always patient and hopeful, finding much comfort in trusting in her Heavenly Father. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. A. White in the yard at the home on Wednesday, October 23rd, 1918 at 2 o'clock after which the remains were interred in Hillside Cemetery. The stricken family have the sympathy of the entire community. John Anderson, 1847-1914
DEATHS OF A WEEK -- John Anderson was born in Sweden March 12, 1847 and moved to America in 1882, going to Avoka, Iowa where he lived for a short time. He moved to Minnesota where he met and married Miss Anna Barthelsen. They moved back to Iowa a short time after that where they lived until four years ago when they moved to Greeley county Nebraska. He had been sick for some time and died at his home about six miles north of town Tuesday August 18. He leaves to mourn him his wife and three sons, Bartle, Oscar and Obel. Funeral services were held from the house at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (today) and interment made in the Wolbach cemetery. Rev. White of the Lutheran Church conducted the services. Mrs. Lars Julius Anderson, 1898-1948
Last Rites Held for Mrs. Anderson Last Tues. -- Last rites were held for Mrs. Lars Julius Anderson, 49, of Grand Island last Tuesday afternoon at Grand Island. Rev. John B. Rupley officiating, Burial in the Grand Island cemetery. Mrs. Anderson passed away after an illness of 6 days. She was born December 29, 1898 near Sutton, Nebraska graduating from the Sutton High School in 1919, also taught school later at Harris county. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson made their home on a farm 6 miles west of Wolbach after their marriage. Four children were born to this union. Besides her husband surviving to mourn her loss are two daughters, Shirley Mae and Arline and two sons, Lyle and Lars Jr. all at home, four sisters, Mrs. Martin Anderson, Grand Island, Mrs. Wesley Salem and Mrs. Winfred Hoffman, Sutton and Mrs.Leonard Troedsen, Denair, Calif., two brothers, Ernest Hansen, Miles City, Montana, and Vincent Hansen, Grand Island.

Martin Anderson, 1864-1948
Martin Anderson Rites February 27 in Vermillion, S. D. -- Martin Anderson was born May 15, 1864 at Ashus, Denmark and passed away February 23, 1948 at the Dakota Hospital Vermillion, South Dakota. He came to this country in the spring of 1887, settling at Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where he worked in a brick factory and later in a boiler factory in Brooklyn, New York. On May 6, 1891 at Brooklyn he was united in Marriage to Susanne Nelson. Mr. Anderson came to South Dakota in 1894 as a carpenter by trade. The deceased was the last living worker who had helped in constructing the present Danish Lutheran church, south of Gayville, having laid the floor and built the roof. In 1896 he started farming on his present farm later he moved to Nebraska, returning in 1920 to resume farming in Meckling vicinity. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran church and was officiated with the church. He was a member of the D. B. S. Lodge for over 50 years. In 1941 Mr. and Mrs. Anderson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Funeral services were held February 27 at the Danish Lutheran church and the Rev. A. G. Baalson of Meckling, officiated at the last rites. Mrs. Lloyd Hardin sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus" accompanied by Mrs. Chester Peterson. Interment was in the church cemetery and Elmore-Wagner funeral directors were in charge. Surviving family members are his wife, Susanne, and daughters, Mrs. Anina Skow, Mrs. Ann Jepson, both of Meckling; Mrs. Alma Martin of Sioux City; Mrs. Helen Kiefer of Inglewood, Calif, and sons, John of Snohomish, Wash; Anton, Nels, Alfred and Edwin of Vermillion. A brother, Anders Anderson of Denmark and 13 grandchildren also mourn his death. Pallbearers were George Anderson, Theodore Kryger, Stian Knutson, Halvor Knutson, Julius Erickson, and Louis Iverson. Matilda Anderson, 1861-1947
Matilda Anderson Succumbs Tuesday Services Today -- Funeral services were held today (Thursday) afternoon December 11 for Mrs. Matilda Anderson, 86, at McIntyre Funeral home in St. Paul. Rev. V. R. Bell officiating. Mrs. Matilda Anderson was born in Sweden, January 1, 1861 and passed away in the Memorial hospital at St. Paul Tuesday, December 9 where she had been for the past week, having been ill for the past two years but condition grew worse 10 days ago. At the time of her death she was 86 years 10 months and 8 days. She was married to Andreas Christian Anderson at St. Paul, Nebraska, August 29, 1888 and have lived in Howard county since 1888 for several years lived at Cushing and purchased a home at St. Paul 8 years ago, where she has made her home. Surviving are two sons and one daughter: Niels of Los Angeles, Calif., Antone of Central City, Colorado, and Tracy Frost of St. Paul. Four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Augusta Wohlers of St. Paul. Burial at South Logan in the family plot. Mrs. Nell Oleson and Mrs. Evelyn Zlomke sang, "Old Rugged Cross," "Nearer God," "Good Morning Up There" accompanied by Mrs. Hazelle Falk, organist. Oscar Phillip Anderson, 1889-1928
Obituary of Oscar P. Anderson -- Oscar Phillip Anderson was born in Cokato, Minnesota, September 4, 1889, and died in St. Francis hospital, Grand Island, Nebraska, March 21, 1928, aged 38 years, 6 months and 17 days. In 1904 he moved to Iowa, and from there in 1908 he went to join the U. S. Navy. After two years of service, he came in 1910 to Greeley county, Nebraska. Here he lived until called away by death. In early boyhood he was baptized in the Swedish Lutheran church. On September 3, 1916, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Kinney of Wolbach. To this union three children were born, Lois, Howard, and Doris Jean, aged respectively 10, 7, and 3. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his death, his mother Mrs. Anna Anderson, two brothers, Bart and Obel; two half brothers, Charles Nelson of Messina, Iowa, and Andrew Nelson of Brayton, Iowa, and numerous other relatives. He was a kind son, an affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor, unselfish in his life and thoughtful of others. He enjoyed the respect of all who knew him. The entire community unites in deepest sympathy for the stricken family. He realized that his departure was near and said he was prepared to go. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Saturday afternoon, March 24, at 2 o'clock. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery. Paul Jordon Anderson, 1923
Paul Jordan Anderson Passes Away -- Laid to Rest in Hillside Cemetery Sunday Afternoon -- Paul Jordan, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Anderson, died at the home of his parents in Logan Township, Greeley county, about eight miles northeast of Wolbach on Saturday, November 24, at 2:15 A.M. at the age of two years six months and seventeen days. The same Jesus that gave up his life on the cross of Calvary and said "It is finished--, has surely said the same words of this precious babe. The mission that he came on earth to fill has been finished, and he has been called home there to await the coming of the loved ones left behind. "It may not be till the coming years, Perhaps in a better land, We'll know the meaning of our tears, Some day we'll understand." Paul had been sick for a few weeks and was taken to Grand Island for an examination by physicians there and stayed for a week in hopes that he might be cured, but it was of no avail. He leaves one brother Lawrence, age six years, and a sister, Hazel, age five, besides his parents and relatives. Funeral services conducted by Rev. R. A. White, were held in the Trinity Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 P.M. The Beginners choir sang for the occasion, and Emil Johnson, Adolph Johnson, Glenn Grossart and Alvin Jacobsen acted as pall bearers. Interment was made in Hillside Cemetery.

Ralph Curtis Anderson, 1924-1928
Obituary of Ralph Anderson -- Ralph Curtis Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Anderson was born at the home eight miles north of Wolbach, August 29, 1924, and died March 3, 1928 at the age of 3 years, 6 months and four days. He suffered affliction for a long time, and all was done to bring him back to health that medical skill and tender love could suggest. So his departure must be according to divine will and purpose. He leaves to mourn his loss, his parents, two brothers, Lawrence and John, and one sister, Hazel. One brother, Paul Jordan, died November 24, 1923. The bereaved family have the profound sympathy of everyone in the community. Funeral services were held in Trinity Lutheran Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. R. A. White, assisted by Sunday School Missionary, Norden of St. Paul, Nebraska, Monday, March 5, 1928, at 3 p.m. after which the remains were laid to rest in Hillside cemetery.

Hilding Anderval, 1890-1919
Death of Hilding Anderval -- The sad news of the death of Hilding Anderval was received here Wednesday noon. The young man passed away at a Kearney hospital, Wednesday morning at nine o'clock, of tuberculosis resulting from influenza. He was a nephew of Mrs. A. C. Anderson, Sr. and Mrs. Fred Wohlers and has made Wolbach his home for the past year. During his residence here he was employed by T. T. Frost at the Reo Garage. He made many friends and all will grieve to learn of his death. Complete obituary will appear in next week's paper.

OBITUARY -- Hilding Anderval, a nephew of Mrs. Fred Wholers, died at the hospital in Kearney, on February 4th, and the body passed through this city last Friday being taken to the home of the aunt of the deceased from which place the funeral was held. The young man suffered an attack of influenza some time ago and did not fully recover when tuberculosis set and because of his weakened condition he gradually grew weaker, notwithstanding that every possible means was resorted to in order to stay the malady. Hilding Richard Anderval was born April 26th, 1890, in Gotenberg, Sweden, and passed to the Great Beyond February 4th, 1919 at the State Hospital in Kearney, Nebr., at the age of twenty-eight years. He came to this country in the fall of 1906, since then he has been making his home in Nebraska and North Dakota. He leaves to mourn his untimely death, a mother and sister in Sweden, together with a number of relatives in this country and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at South Logan, Friday, February 7th with Rev. Sorensen officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the South Logan cemetery. The young man suffered the loss of his father about seven years ago by being killed by accident. The mother survives the young man and resides in Europe. He has been employed as mechanic in a garage in Wolbach. He had been planning to return to Europe but the grim reaper stepped in to alter his ambitions. -- St. Paul Republican

Mrs. Gilbert Andrews, 1891-1912
OBITUARY -- Mrs. Gilbert Andrews was born Sept. 4, 1891 in the State of North Carolina, and died June 22, 1912 at the home of Ben Squires 5 miles northeast of Wolbach. At the time of her death she was 21 years 9 months and 18 days of age. She was married to Gilbert Andrew (sic) Dec. 16, 1908 and to this union one child was born. The funeral was held last Monday at 12 o'clock at the M. E. church. Rev. McDonald officiating. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and two children, a mother, 5 sisters and 4 brothers and a host of young friends. The Messenger extends their sympathy to the bereaved family.

Virginia Mae (Youngman) Andrews, 1888-1935
Mrs. Andrews Is Called to Reward -- After several years of failing health Mrs. Letcher Andrews passed away at the family home here Saturday morning. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Rhine were held in Trinity Lutheran church Monday afternoon at 2:30, and interment was made in Hillside cemetery with F. E. McCormick, August Larson, Hans M. Hansen, Leonard Winfrey, M. E. Fitzsimmons and John A. Berney as pallbearers. OBITUARY -- Virginia Mae Youngman was born in Tama, Iowa, October 3, 1888 and died at Wolbach, Nebraska, August 3, 1935, at the age of 46 years and ten months. At the age of two years she came to Nebraska with her mother and grandparents where she lived on a farm east of Wolbach until January 12, 1907 when she was united in marriage to L. C. Andrews, since which time they have always made their home in Wolbach and vicinity. To this union were born five children, namely, Mrs. Elvin Bartak of Newboro, Nebr., Mrs. Alfred Larson of Wolbach and Mildred, Harold and Howard at the parental home. Left to mourn her passing besides her husband and children are a grandchild, two uncles and a host of friends. The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Frank Bowman of Denver, Colo., and Mr. and Mrs. John Hemming of Fremont.

Alie (Lowe) Anstine, 1866-1941
Funeral Services for Mrs. Anstine -- Funeral services for Mrs. Alie L. Anstine, 75, wife of a former editor of the Wolbach Messenger who passed away at her home in Meadow Grove, were held Friday from the Meadow Grove Methodist church and burial was in McCoy cemetery beside the body of her husband. Mrs. Anstine was a sister of Grant Lowe and an aunt of Mrs. Jessie Fox, and having been former residents, the family is well known here. Those attending the funeral from Wolbach were Mrs. Fox, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Lowe, Mrs. Minnie Berney, Mrs. Hester Lowe, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Tellmann and Mrs. E. H. Davis. Obituary -- Alie Lowe was born of Quaker parentage in York county, Pa., Sept. 26, 1866, and died at Meadow Grove, Neb., Oct. 31, 1941 at the age of 75 years, one month and six days. She was married to W. R. S. Anstine at Stewartstown, Pa., Oct. 11, 1893. To this union eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy. The Anstine family moved to Wolbach in 1909 where Mr. Anstine was editor of the Messenger. Later the family resided at Odell, Humboldt, Wilber and Reynolds and in 1918 moved to Meadow Grove where Mr. Anstine published the Meadow Grove News until his death June 19, 1929. Mrs. Anstine was a member of the Methodist church, the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Twentieth Century club. Survivors are two brothers, Grant Lowe of Wolbach and Colfax Lowe of York, Pa., a sister, Mrs. Ruth Ann Morris of Stewartstown, Pa., two sons, Robert of Nez Perce, Ida., and Perry of Norfolk; three daughters, Mrs. Edna Rhea of Meadow Grove, Flora of Norfolk and Mrs. Evelyn Linscott of Beatrice, and eight grandchildren.

Reed Keller Anstine, 1935
Reed Anstine Buried with Military Honors -- Funeral services for Reed Keller Anstine were held Thursday afternoon at Lincoln and Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church at Meadow Grove. Reed Anstine came to this community with his parents in June 1909, his father W. R. S. Anstine having purchased the Messenger-Advertiser the previous month. On May 9, 1912, W. R. S. Anstine sold his newspaper business to Wolfgang Schmidt and moved to Lincoln. At the time of his death, Tuesday, December 31, which was due to pneumonia, Reed was employed as a receiver by the state banking department. He is survived by his wife, his mother, four children and 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Those who attended the services from this community were: Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Wagner, Messrs. Bradford and Roy Lowe, Harry Browne and Mrs. Jessie Fox.

FORMER RESIDENT DIES -- Relatives here have been advised of the death of Joy Auble, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Auble of Ord, formerly of Wolbach. Funeral services will be held this afternoon in Ord. Miss Auble, a registered nurse, served in the army during World War Two.

Isaac Newton Augustine, 1921
PIONEER PASTOR DIES AT GRAND ISLAND HOME -- Special Dispatch to the World Herald -- Grand Island, Neb. July 2 -- One of the state's oldest pastors, Isaac Newton Augustine, died here today at the age of 88. He graduated from Wittenberg college Springfield, O., in the fifties. In 1861 he began his Lutheran ministerial work in Pennsylvania. He came to Thayer county, Neb., in 1881, went to Hastings in 1890, later served at Ericson and Wolbach and had lived in this city for the past twenty-one years, for one year serving the English Lutheran church of Grand Island. Five children survive.

Johnnie D. Auten, 1888-1929
Obituary of Johnnie D. Auten -- Johnnie D. Auten, eldest son of Samuel and Minnie Auten was born at Inman, Holt county, Nebraska on December 29th 1888 and died at Cedar Rapids, Nebraska on September 18th, 1929, age 40 years, 8 months and 20 days. He moved with his parents to Endsfield near Cedar Rapids in 1893 where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Ada E. Cox on February 16th, 1910. To this union was born one daughter. He moved to Primrose, Nebr. in 1914 and later to a farm near Wolbach and remained in this vicinity until taken sick four weeks ago, when he was moved to Cedar Rapids to the home of his parents. He became a member of the Wolbach Lodge No. 280 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows in 1918 and remained a member in good standing. He united with the Endsfield M. E. Church in 1905 and remained in membership to the time of his death. He has been in poor health for some time but his condition was not considered serious until recently. Apparently in normal condition he was about on Wednesday morning as usual. About noon he was outdoors with his father and collapsed without regaining consciousness. Medical assistance was called but was of no avail. He passed away peacefully at 11:45 a.m. He leaves to mourn his loss, his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Lucille Teilmann of Wolbach, Nebraska; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Auten of Cedar Rapids; and two brothers Sammie and Charles of Cedar Rapids, Nebraska; his grandmother, Mrs. Davis and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon conducted by Reverend William E. Wilson at the Methodist Church of Cedar Rapids, Rev. Brother H. A. Taylor of Albion, Nebr., Past Grand Master of the Nebraska Lodge I.O.O.F. preached the sermon. Burial was made in the Sunset Cemetery with Lodge No. 280 of the I.O.O.F. in charge assisted by the Cedar Lodge. "Men die, but sorrow never dies; The crowding years divide in vain, And the wide world is knit with ties of common brotherhood in pain." Martha Alice Ayers, 1845-1911
Obituary – Martha Alice Ayers was born in Brown county, Ohio, Dec. 2^nd, 1845.  Died at the home of her son, near Waverly, June 25, 1911 aged 65 years, 6 months, 23 days.  The deceased was married to D. C. Maddox May 21, 1867.  To this union was born five children, three sons and two daughters, and one son having preceded to the great beyond.  She united with the M. E. church in her girlhood, since that time has lived a devout Christian life.  Her husband and two sons, W. H. Maddox of town and Edwin of Waverly survive her.  Funeral services were held at the home of her son, near Waverly, Rev. Geo. Hylton officiating, Monday at 2:30 p.m.
