FARRITOR/SULLIVAN/MAHONEY/DEVINE in 1879, a caravan of wagons left LaSalle Cty IL for Custer County, NE. Families included: James and Ann McDONNELL/McDONALD FARRITOR/FERRITER; Robert G. and Ann GRAHAM Farritor, Patrick S. SULLIVAN and Margaret McDONNELL Sullivan, and John and Bridget DEVINE. Robert and James had a younger brother named John who also brought his family to Custer Cty about the same time. They had two childre: George 1777 and Nora 1779. They had land and a house near Otello. At sometime between 1779 and 1784, John was killed on Ogallala. It is know now that George was adopted by Patrick and Margaret Sullivan in 1884 and had children he named Patrick and Margaret that lived in or near Sargent. Patrick and Margaret also raised a foster child named Jerry MAHONEY who left when grown and was last know to be in Saskatchewan in 1923 but disappeared. Can anyone contribute any information about what happened to Sarah Farritor, widow of John, and their daughter, Nora?

I am looking for information on the Twombley/Twombly family that settled in the Custer County. In particular, I am looking for Samuel Twombley (my great-grandfather). I do know that his first wife was Harriet Laverne Wood(s) and that she died approximately 1890-1896. Any help would be appreciated.

I am researching HOLDEN and HUFFMAN/HOFFMAN. Fred and Melvin Holden, brothers, left New Hampshire ca. 1880 and settled "on Homestead Land" near Merna, NE. Later Fred married Margaret Huffman, and Mel married her mother Keziah. Some sources have Hoffman as their surname. The two ladies came to NE from Illinois and homesteaded next to the Holden brothers. I suspect Keziah was the widow of a Union soldier. I have been unable to find proof of the homesteads or other evidence of the Holdens in NE, although several members of my wife's family, including her mother Ethel May Holden Deuel were born in Merna or nearby. Any help apreciated.

James P Burton, b IN 1842 and wife Talitha Hart, b IL 1843, were in Anselmo, Custer County, and Hastings, Adams County ca 1883-1890. She had, by earlier marriage, two daughters, Nora Fisher (b IL ca 1869 and Mary, b IL ca 1872). Believe that Nora might have married Thompson during the time they were there. James' mother, Lucy Copeland Burton Ross was there during at least part of that time, as well as his stepfather and/or half-brother, both named John Ross. About 1890 James returned to Webster County, Missouri.

I have aquired a photocopy of a page from the 1900 Census for (I think) Custer County, Nebraska. It contains several members of my Stults family. Unfortunately, I cannot read the corner where the state and county are named. Further down I read "Kilfoil Township" or something similar. The 'K' could be a H or W or M. The 'o' could be an a. Then it says "Name of the incorporated city, town, or village, within the above-named division". This may read "Muna". If anyone can tell me where this is I would be grateful. Regards, Deb Porter Looking for BROWN, SCHUDY, STULTS in Custer County.
